Adonai:
"Are you sure you are fine? Not long after you woke up you decided to head out." Kathlyn asked. She never left my side since I collapsed the first time.
"Yea, staying indoors with that much dust would be bad for me right now anyway."
*Sigh*
"And I told you to clean it up, but no and no, such a bad child." She retorted.
"What are you, my mother?" I asked.
"At this point I might as well be. After all you're indebted to me, I took care of you, remember?" Kath said while making an expression that indicated mischief.
With an audible gulp I looked in the opposite direction to see the streets being lively, despite everything that's going on right now. Thinking about it makes sense, no one is working still, and even the military is off for a while, so it's bustling more than ever.
"Did the four races' appearance don't do anything to their mental?" I asked myself, but the answer is obvious, they said nothing will happen while they are here and after witnessing that display of power combined with the fact that they could've killed us all at any moment... It makes sense.
Why would we not trust them, even if we don't or if we do the outcome would still be the same, so lingering onto a dim light of hope is better than falling into the abyss.
As we continued our stroll to a place meant for sightseeing Kathlyn didn't say anything else, even if it was her idea to begin with, to go to this place. I just wanted to get out of the house, to clear my mind.
Surely the dream I had was strange but I'm pretty sure the encounter I had in it was real. Whoever he might be, he's real. And without much hope of finding the answer to that question now I chose to toss it aside. After all trying to find the answer to everything when you know almost nothing will only drive you mad.
*Bump*
"Ah, I'm so sorry young man, I didn't mean to. You see, it's my first time coming to this city so I was taken aback by the fantastic views." A man in a black costume said to me.
He bumped into me, cause being not paying attention, but it's no big deal, nothing was spilled or broken so we can move on.
"I'm fine, don't worry, I should've paid more attention as well. I'm sorry." It is true, the fault lies on both of us, a collision that could have easily been avoided if one of us paid attention to where they were going ... but why the hell didn't she say anything?
"Hey Kath, why didn't you say anything huh? Where is she?"
"Hmm, sorry you were with someone? I thought I saw her leaving while you apologized, she went ahead."
...
"That piece of ..." I said furiously while taking off to get back to her.
"Before you leave, I need some directions if you don't mind. Tell me where can I read about the Salem Witch Trials?" The man asked me.
"Should be a library like 100 meters from here if you keep going straight."
"I see, I very much appreciate it." The strange man bowed and left.
I started running and after a while I caught up to Kathlyn.
"You sure left me behind. You didn't even say anything before I bumped into that man."
"Huh? What are you talking about? You suddenly stopped in the middle of the road and started apologizing to no one. I thought you had an episode of dementia so I left."
"So much for taking care of me, anyway what are you talking about? I bumped into a man, you know fairly tall, wore a black suit, and a hat that made it impossible for me to see his face ... waa maybe he was a robber. But he looked for books so I doubt that's the case."
"..." Silence was her response to me. I found the situation very odd but not like I could get any information, when I looked behind, the man was gone. I ran far enough anyway so it would be impossible to see him but.
Better to not worry about it, sure strange things keep happening to me.
"Anyway we're almost there, why don't we stop somewhere to catch our breath before hiking into that forest" Kath proposed.
"It's not that much but you're right, sure as hell I wouldn't want to be exhausted when getting there."
The place we're heading out to is somewhere high up in the forest, outside the city, a distance that we walk because ... maybe we have big masochist tendencies, why do we walk it?
.....
They sure look lovely, and he was honest, this is indeed a library. Now let's see what I can find in your history ... Abigail Williams. Because, I, Ragnarok shall be the one to put an end to the sins you're accused of once and for all.
... My dear audience, you probably wonder what's going on, what's my agenda and it's a shame but I'm afraid I can't spoil everything. Our meeting with Ms. Williams will take some time. But meanwhile you do good and remember that not all the faces of history are in play yet. Ha hahahahaha. Ahem, excuse me.
I shall take my leave once I've learned what I'm here for, soon enough they will move ... and so will I. Back to the lovey-dovey couple POV, you've seen enough of me. Oh but before I leave, remember that this part is not a canonical 4th wall break, you don't play any role in this story, so don't get ahead of yourself.
.....
"So how's Maverick, you probably kept in touch with him more than I did recently, you know due to the training and stuff." I asked
"He's fine, he really got in shape but his magic is still lacking. I expect some progress but he'll get there."
"No mercy, shouldn't you train your body a bit more as well? To keep up with your magic and stuff?" I asked without realizing that I had unleashed upon myself.
"Oho but please explain what that's supposed to mean? You want to say I'm fat and I should work out or you want a pure demonstration of my physical prowess right here and now. Do tell me, my dear old friend, you want to get beaten to a pulp right here or somewhere else?"
Rookie mistake, I thought to myself, I should've not said something so obviously stupid.
"I ask your majesty for forgiveness, I'm but ignorant in the face of your ability. Thus a peasant like me could never hope to understand your greatness."
"Very good, I will forgive you." She said with a pleased smile. "What about Stella, I assume you kept in touch with her right?"
"Oh yes, we went shopping a couple of times, and recently she went to Anwir's grave by herself. I think she's quite stable."
When I looked up to my companion I realized that I made the second greatest mistake of today. An aggressive smile, eyes closed and a twitching ear is what I saw.
"Hmm, is that how it is, but hmm, you seem to be very fond of your newlywed life, shopping hmm. You know you promised me a date, you even asked for it and there was no follow up on that hmm. Guess it's too late now, maybe I should indeed rain god's retribution on your ass."
Realizing I'm cornered I had no choice but to kneel and pray.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I promise I'll take you on a date, I'm not newlywed and I don't wish to be for the time being."
"... You really transform into an idiot when you're around me, but I prefer this version instead of how gloomy you seem some days." She said.
"Takes one to know one." I said
"What did you say?"
And that ladies and gentleman is when I realized that I'm toying a line that I should never toy even with a gun.
"Nothing, I think we should go on and start hiking, if we want the best view, we must be there when the sun goes down."
"Very well."
After almost two hours of hiking we reached the spot we wanted, somewhere far up that we could see almost the entire city from above. We could see how vast it is, how the dimensions are so ridiculously big that it seems to be going until the end of the earth. So far up we now are waiting for a single thing, the sunset.
"You know these have been some crazy months. No, a crazy year if you think about it. Who could've expected something like this. I guess life is as they say, full of surprises." I started making conversation, reminiscing about the past.
"Yea, and we find ourselves here, standing together in a place that makes it look like we're above the world itself, with the addition of magic it seems surreal."
"Come to think of it, we can think of this as a d..."
"Finish that sentence and I'll finish you off." She interjected before I could finish.
"Very well."
Standing here we could see how the sun is going down and down until it passed the city and now the night sky is approaching. Seemingly a clear night sky, stars can be seen without any problems and more than that, now we can even see different lights coming not only from the objects we're used to see. Light laying on a canvas among other celestial bodies.
Perhaps they are the lights coming from different species, different things? with a very different lifestyle from ours. If one should embark on a journey to travel the stars ... I'm sure they would be delighted. Here in this forest, with the moon bright above us, with magic, with the view of the city driving into the sleeping world and the beautiful girl right next to me ... it feels like the world has come to a halt.
...
But such peace can never last long.
*Ring*
"A message?"
The message said the following: We've already expressed our preferences for a choice, but you, every one of you are also part of this, so before making an ultimate decision, we, the council, would like to ask the people that inhabit earth for their own choice. You'll find a description of each Great Race under their box. Please choose until tomorrow afternoon. Thank you for your cooperation.
... So that's how it is. I looked at Kath who seemed to be done reading and without a need of words we knew what time it was.
It's time to go home.
