It doesn’t take a genius to see the hopelessness of the situation. Monsters everywhere, a giant one eating some of them while a tornado swirls around it, a crazy woman doing weird rituals to summon it, and a witch…The closest thing you have to an ally in a world you hated since the beginning is having a nervous breakdown. Everything has gone to shit. These thoughts went through Damian’s mind as he took in the scene. Thing is, none of them really mattered to him. Problems caused by others, making your life that much more complicated against your will. All you can really do is try to salvage what you value the most as best you can regardless of whatever state it’s in.
Damian turned his attention to a possessed Joanna freaking out inside the sphere barrier and yelled out to Morgan. “Go hide or somethin I’m getting Joanna!”. Damian noticed large stones floating around in the air from Soul Eater’s devouring. He jumped on to one and let the force pull him forward. Getting closer and closer to the monstrosity made Damian more and more uneasy. It’s very appearance alone was disturbing, but getting closer and watching it consume the dead is just unsettling. He focused on the task at hand leaping from stone to stone to get closer to Joanna. The beast took notice of the little black skeleton and began swatting at him with its massive arms.
Swatting is probably not the best way to describe it, but considering the size difference, he was practically a bug to it. Claw after claw, boulder after boulder, a literal brush not with death, but one who devours it. It felt similar, but 10 times worse than that falling feeling a person gets when trying to sleep. Damian propelled the stone he was riding on using a strong gust of cold wind. The Soul Eater swiped at him once more, but missed. Damian rode the boulder like a skateboard across the beast's arm. Damian made eye contact with its six eyes as he got closer to its face.
Their eyes locked almost as if both were challenging the other to make a move. Whoever broke contact first would definitely be the cowardly prey. Overwhelming fear caused him to jump off just as the beast slammed another hand down on its arm to try and crush Damian. The shockwave from the hit sent him flying further. He hit the ground and rolled, but quickly got to his feet and kept running.
“Keep moving!” Damian screamed to himself. “If you want to live! If you want her to live! Keep moving!”. He came to a halt in front of Joanna’s sphere prison with Jasper blocking the way. Asshole was still alive!
Damian got ready to fight, but stole a glance at Joanna before giving Jasper a desperate look. “That monster is eating all of the ghosts that includes you and your sister! I don’t care what happens to you, but I can’t let her die because of something I could’ve stopped!”. Jasper had a strange look on his face, almost like he was struggling with a tough decision. “I...Understand...I’ll let you go just this once…”.
Despite the past, regardless of the history, it doesn't matter what the story was. At the end of the day both boys would do anything to keep Joy alive.
Damian made his way over to the captive. The only thought in his head being to flee the scene as quickly as possible once he got to her. He was brought to harsh reality by Jasper’s chains wrapping around him. “I’ll see you in hell!”, bellowed the possessed boy.
The chains suddenly shattered and Jasper was wrapped up by a large black snake. Onna held Damian in her arms while the snake extending from her rear tightened its grip on Jasper. “That’s so typical of a monster”, she said unamused. “Always without mercy even out of love. I have no further use for you”.
She smashed Jasper against the barrier and broke it. She threw Jasper into Joanna and they both rocketed towards the Soul Eater. A disoriented Jasper called out to Joanna as they got closer to the beast.
Jasper jabbed his hand into her head and pulled out the ghost possessing her. A look of horror quickly spreaded across her face as she came to and realized the situation she was now in. “Jasper?!”. For a moment it seemed the real Jasper, her brother, came to the surface. He smiled at her and left parting words. “Thanks for being part of my family”.
He grabbed Joanna and threw her towards Morgan. A shadowy figure snatched the witch and jumped out of the way. Her mysterious savior vanished and Morgan was left unconscious surrounded by blue flames. Joanna also laid unconscious on the floor.
Damian desperately called out to Joanna, but received no answer. Onna watched the scene with an intrigued look on her face. “Unexpected, but you can go to her in a moment. I want to share this one with you”.
Damian jumped out of her arms, but she once again restrained him, this time using her snake tail to bind him. He took a deep breath and unleashed a powerful gust of white fog while emitting a loud screech, but Onna blocked it with her left hand and it dispersed everywhere. She started fidgeting excitedly.
“Now come with me, my child and witness something grand!”. She dashed over to the Soul Eater and jumped on top of its hand. It stopped devouring souls and lifted her up to get a better look. She removed her mask and revealed a smile that had been extended with a blade. “Am I pretty?!” she bellowed to the beast. Creature responded with a powerful roar that shook Damian to his core.
Onna began chanting. “Await in slumber for the call of the immortal and be sealed by the hand of death! Grim Reaper’s: Black Ice Gravestone!”. She thrust her left hand in its direction and released a flurry of black snow. Dark cold wind swirled around its body and enveloped it in darkness. A glimmer of light emerged from the beast’s body in the shape of a white sphere.
The Soul Eater continued to roar as the sphere entered Damian’s being. An overwhelming wave of fatigue shot through the skeleton boy’s body and his vision began to fade.
“So…Tired…”. Onna turned her attention to him and whispered tenderly to him a few words before he drifted off to sleep. “Find me in the garden when you wake up…”.
