Diana was unpacking their luggage while her son is sleeping. She's thinking of talking to Arthur and reconcile with him for the sake of their son. She knew that she shouldn't make a fuss over a minor argument.
Then she suddenly heard someone knocking on the door and when she opened it, Lea's face greeted her with a smile.
"Can we talk?" Lea said.
"About what?"
"Anything, I just want to have a chat with you."
Diana looked at her sleeping son and then glanced back at Lea. "Okay."
Diana gently closed the door, making sure that Vincent wouldn't wake up. The two ladies go out for a walk in the garden at the back of the camp. They relaxed and walked in a steady rhythm while talking to each other, absorbing the temporary peaceful environment.
"So what do you like to talk about?" Diana said while looking at a newly bloomed red spider lily.
"I'm sorry for the mess that we created. We shouldn't have invited Vincent to go with us. We're to blame for why the commander got mad."
"No, it's not your fault. I am the one who gave permission to the three of you to bring Vincent. Besides, I have said something I shouldn't have to Arthur that made him angry." Diana smiled at Lea trying to lift the guilt that her friend was feeling. "Don't worry too much about us. I know that Arthur and I can fix this."
Lea smiled too at Diana and then hugged her. "Thank you."
Diana patted Lea's back and then smiled towards the sky. "There's no need for that. Lea, actually . . . there's a favor that I would like to ask from you."
"What is it?'
Diana softly whispered her message to Lea's ear while petals of red spider lily danced around them along with the wind coming from the west.
. . .
Lea looked for Arthur around the camp but she couldn't find him. Then she saw Roger and Sky washing their uniform covered with mud stains. There was an extra uniform that they are washing, — Arthur's. Noticing this, Lea had decided to ask them.
"Why are you washing your uniforms and also Arthur's uniform?"
"It's a long story," Sky said.
"We lost in rock, paper, scissors game, what part of that is long?" Roger said to Sky.
"I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about how we got our uniforms all muddy."
"Oh yes, he was right, it's a long story. I got tired suddenly just by thinking about it."
"So where's Arthur?" Lea said to them.
"Probably in the cliff nearby. He said he wanted to get some fresh air and a nice view."
"Okay, thanks."
Lea immediately looked for Arthur and saw him staring at the sky while standing near the cliff.
"The world is being a little too rough on us, am I right commander?" Lea said as she approached Arthur.
"What's that? Don't be too formal to me, Lea. Just call me by my name," Arthur said trying to dodge the question. He smiled at her, however, it's a sad one.
"Okay, but only when there's nobody around or when we are together with our friends only," Lea said then tried to bring up her question again. "About my question, what do you think?"
"Well for me, I think the world was being a bit rough on both espers and normals, not just us." Arthur looked back at Lea. "I wish that there will be no wars anymore after this one."
"Start by attaining peace with Diana. Take the initiative, I'm sure that Diana will accept your apology." Lea smirked at Arthur.
Before Arthur could even react to Lea's statement, a child's voice called out from afar. "Father!"
A cold wind blows upon the arrival of the small soldier boy, Vincent who strongly resembles his father's golden blonde hair and his mother's ocean-blue colored kind eyes. But those kind eyes showed fear as the boy catches his breath and spoke. "Mother and the camp is in grave danger! Quick!"
"Vincent, stay here!" Arthur and Lea ran off quickly as soon as the panting boy finishes his sentence.
On the way to the camp, they saw Sky and Roger with the esper children running away from the camp.
"Sky! Roger! Where's Diana?" Arthur shouted at the two soldiers.
"We got separated while trying to rescue the kids," Sky said.
"What happened in the camp?" Lea said to them.
"We were attacked by the Russian espers," Roger answered. "The enemy has sent their high-level espers knowing that we are also high-level espers. We don't stand any chance of fighting them head-on."
Despite all those warnings, Arthur still fearlessly goes ahead to the camp, desperate to save his beloved wife.
Diana is a nurse aid soldier when they first met, a few years way before the ESP outburst. They completed a lot of operations together and after that, they got married. After their wedding, they have decided to resign from their duty as soldiers. Diana and Arthur made that decision for the child that is in Diana's womb at that time, to live a normal peaceful life.
But misfortune struck them. When the ESP suddenly came out of the blue to bring chaos to the world. The couple has been both affected, becoming espers. This event makes their resignation invalid, and to make it a lot worse, their son Vincent also has been an esper and was forced to join the esper special task force even though he is still a child.
"Diana! Diana! Where are you?" Arthur continuously shouted.
"Oh ho. What do we have here?" A voice said coming behind of Arthur.
Arthur immediately turn around and was shocked by what he has seen. The voice earlier was that of a woman. What shocked Arthur was what that woman was holding. She is holding Diana's head while dragging Diana's body as she walks toward Arthur. Diana was full of bruises and was soaking in her own blood. The unknown woman has a sinister grin on her lips.
"Arthur . . . run." Diana poured the last ounce of strength left in her.
"No!" Arthur yelled, "I absolutely refuse to do that!" clenching both his teeth and fist. Animosity was painted on his previous calm eyes. This sight of Arthur's anger doesn't affect the woman even for a little bit, but it makes Diana shed a tear.
"So are you her lover?" the woman said. She is wearing a long black overcoat that hides her clothes underneath. She's also wearing a green beret with Russia's flag on it.
"Get your filthy hands off her right now!"
"As you wish." The woman threw Diana with all her strength to the side.
Arthur cannot hold his temper anymore. He straightforwardly assaulted the enemy, but he was stopped by Lea. Lea suddenly appeared in front of him then instantly teleported both of them out of there.
"Hmm . . . boring," the woman said. She walked towards Diana's location after she threw her earlier. Diana was now on her last breath. "So you actually have an ability. All along, I thought that you're powerless and to my surprise, you actually knew telepathy."
Diana still managed to smile for the last time. The woman placed her right foot above Diana's head.
"Too bad, you're gonna die right here, right now." She smiled at Diana like she was enjoying what she's doing so much. "Proshchay."
The woman stomped Diana's head with force. Diana's head was crushed and it burst into pieces.
"General Aria, we have failed to get the children." A Russian soldier reported to the woman who was identified as Aria, a General of the Russian army.
"It's okay, I've killed one high-level esper. It's enough to satisfy General Ivanov," Aria said.
. . .
All of the esper children were safely rescued and transported in a safe place far from the camp, which is where Lea teleported Arthur.
"What are you doing, Lea? Teleport me back to where Diana is!" Arthur tightly grabbed Lea's shoulder and was violently shaking it.
Lea was looking down on the ground with tears threading down to her cheeks. She cannot bear to look in Arthur's desperate look on his face.
"If you will not teleport me there, I'll go by myself there in any way possible," Arthur said to them.
"Sky! Roger! Hold him!" Lea shouted.
They immediately stopped Arthur into going back to the camp. Sky pinned down Arthur, holding both arms on Arthur's back. Roger helped Sky on holding Arthur down on the ground.
"Let me go! I said, let me go!"
"Captain, get a hold of yourself!" Roger said.
"Lea received a message from Diana through telepathy. Diana sends your location and asked Lea to save you from there," Sky explained to Arthur.
"I don't care! I can still save her! Move!" Arthur's body started to generate electrical surges. His hair stood up because of the electricity that his body was producing at the moment.
The electrical surges coming from Arthur's body were hurting Roger and Sky but they are enduring it. Arthur purposely isn't releasing a high voltage of electricity because he doesn't want to kill his friends.
"Diana is beyond saving. She said it herself. And besides, I can no longer feel her presence." Sky said while enduring the pain.
"No! No! No!" Arthur cried out. "Let me go! I need to avenge her. It's the least thing that I could do!"
"No!" Lea interrupted hugging Arthur. "It's not the least thing you could do. The least thing that you could do is to grant Diana's last wish."
"Her last wish?" Arthur paused for a minute to listen to what Lea would say.
"To live for Vincent. Dying here will cost your son's future."
After hearing it, Arthur started to calm down and stopped resisting. He realized something that he can't see because his eyes were shrouded with anger. He still has his son to protect.
"Lea, could you teleport all of us to a much safer place?" Arthur said.
Lea nodded to Arthur. "Everyone, hold each others' hand! We will teleport to the main headquarters!"
Arthur's eyes were focused at a far distance in the direction of where the camp is located.
" I love you, Diana." Arthur softly whispered.
"Always . . . ."
