Next came a flurry of individual notifications about all the levels they and their animal companions had gained. Marcelina was now level 8 and Charles was level 9. Emma had reached level 9 as well and from how her stats were looking, all of her points were automatically allocated by the system, showing significant improvement for her.
Benedictus saw that he had reached level 10 with exactly enough XP to reach that level. Upon reaching level 5, he gained access to level 5 spells and his first 2 perk points to spend. Upon reaching level 6, he gained the fighting style known as the Dragon Saint Style. Level 7 came with the acquisition of the class skill School of Study. Levels 8 and 9 gave nothing of note outside of stat, skill, and ability points.
The notification for level 10 is what captivated him, as upon reaching level 10 he gained access to the class ability Eyes of the Arcanist, access to level 10 spells, and he reached the level needed to unlock his legendary path, which essentially was his subclass. Before he could even look over all of that information, he received another quick pop up that explained how he was the first of his kind summoned here for this trial to reach level 10.
For achieving this monumental task, he would be given a random divine blessing and a random divine title that would be permanent. The system then notified him that he had received the divine blessing named, Halo of Heaven. It would appear that the random divine title that he gained was called, the Honored One. With that, all of the notifications stopped.
He had a lot to look over, but he was going to do it from the comfort of his bed. He looked at Marcelina, who was staring at him in shock. She had seen the notification about him being the first human to reach level 10 and saw what rewards he got.
"You ready head to home," he asked her, and she snapped back to the present moment.
She gave a nod, "Yeah. I think I'm ready to eat some dinner and take a nap. You want to use the cores before we head off so we don't forget?"
"Sure. Considering how many soul cores we have, I'm going to use all the one-star cores and 8 of the two-star cores to purely exchange for gold. The rest I think we should convert into items. Sounds good to you," he suggested, and waited for her to confirm whether she agreed or not.
She agreed, "Yeah that sounds great."
With her agreement, he exchanged all of the one-star cores and eight of the two-star cores for godly gold and received a total of 1,350 gold. With the remaining two-star cores, he exchanged them for items and in return got an electrical power sphere and a superior healing potion. The power sphere seems to be a magical orb of metal which has been engraved with magical runes that, when hooked up to the proper power grid setup, can power an entire small city for about 10 years. Meanwhile, the superior healing potion heals whoever drinks it for 16 to 72 HP.
He gave Marcelina the healing potion, "Keep this potion in your inventory in case of emergencies. If there's ever a situation where any of you need immediate healing and I can't help, this will have to do. Or if there is another situation like earlier in the cave where I almost died, and you have the opportunity to heal me, it'll probably come in handy."
She took it and immediately put it into her inventory while he went back to exchanging the last of their cores for items. With only three-star cores remaining, he exchanged them all. In return, he received a shrinkable hover car, a pair of magical brass knuckles called Ice Knuckles, and a magical earbud called the Linguistic Auto Translator. Personally, the 3-star items were not what he was hoping for, but that shrinkable hover car definitely would come in handy when it came to getting back to base quickly.
He remembered there being a decently sized clearing not that far away. He told the rest of the group, "We're going to head to that nearby clearing, so I can see about how to work one of the items."
Choosing not to question it and too tired to really put much effort into stressing about it, the rest of the group just gave a nod. They began walking to the nearby clearing about a 15-minute walk to the southwest of the cave entrance. After arriving there, Benedictus opened his inventory and selected the shrinkable hover car. Coming out of the portal, it was about the size of one of those small antique toy cars he remembered back on Earth. He also received the keys and an instruction manual on how to use it.
Looking over the information on the item, it stated that it could shrink or grow when the owner of the vehicle used the key phrase, "Maalas Mora." He didn't know how big it was going to be, so he sat it down a few feet away and stepped back. He used the necessary phrase and watched as the tiny hover car grew to the size of a full-blown vehicle.
It was about the same size as your standard sedan. But it looked a lot more sleek and stylish, like a Lamborghini. He liked the fact that it was red, which happened to be his favorite color. Marcelina was surprised when she saw it turn into an actual vehicle.
Opening the door and started going over the manual while looking at everything on the inside. The setup for how to fly the hover car was actually pretty much like that of a standard four-wheel vehicle back on Earth with some slight additions that were reminiscent of some military jets. He actually knew how to fly military aircrafts and had done so at least twice during his service.
Following the instructions on where everything was and how to activate it, the process only took him about 10 minutes of reading and verifying before he knew how to pilot this vehicle. It was mainly due to familiarity with similar ones. He waved them over and instructed them, "Get in. We're going to get back home much quicker now."
Marcelina gladly got in but Charles and Emma were confused by this weird contraption. They had never seen anything like it and were unsure what to do. Seeing this, Ben and Marcy grabbed both of them and helped them into the hover car. With both of the animals in the back seats, Marcy sat in the passenger seat and Ben buckled up into the driver's seat.
After turning the car on and starting to drive, he built up a bit of momentum by backing up in the clearing and then going from one end to the other. He made sure to put the pedal to the metal as fast as possible, which at first scared everyone else. Once they were halfway to the other end of the clearing, he swapped it over to hover mode and the momentum continued as thrusters engaged to lift the vehicle off the ground.
The wheels of the hover car would change position and convert into hover engines using similar technology to jet thrusters, but more powerful and less environmentally harmful. All while maintaining a small compact size that could fit within the rims of each of the wheels. And with that they were off of the ground and starting to fly up into the sky at a slight angle. They had more than enough space to get over the smaller trees in this area without hitting anything.
Once they were in the air properly, Marcelina couldn't help but be excited that she was in an actual hover car. Then she realized Ben learned how to fly a hover car in only 10 minutes by reading a manual.
"How the hell did you learn how to do this just by reading? You can't just normally read stuff and instantly learn how to do it," she, questioned him, surprised while giving him an utterly dumbfounded expression.
"Probably has to do with my technology skill being 40. It was actually fairly simple information too, since most of how to drive this thing follows a lot of the same qualities of normal vehicles back on Earth. This one just mixed some of the ways of how to drive a car with how to fly a jet plane. Given that I've used both, it wasn't that hard to figure out," he nonchalantly mentioned.
At first, she was kind of confused, but then she realized that Ben was someone who lived a much more interesting life than she initially thought. She couldn't help but chuckle after hearing that, "Well, I'll be damned. I am going to have to start asking you more about your history. I know you were in the military from what you've already said, but this is not what I thought you meant."
"Let's just focus on the fact that we'll probably be home in the next 10 minutes. At least at the speed we're going, we should be seeing it in about that much time," he suggested while keeping an eye out for their base along the river.
Choosing to relax and enjoy the fact she didn't have a 3-hour walk to deal with, Marcelina sat back in her seat and just enjoyed the view of the forest from that height. From up here it actually looked very beautiful. She couldn't help but to admire the lush green forest below despite spending most of her time in it walking around and fighting wild animals.
They actually made it home in only 8 minutes, but it took about 2 minutes for Benedictus to figure out how to properly land without crashing. He figured it out and after a couple circles around the area trying to make sure he did it safely, they landed right next to the wall he had made that surrounded their perimeter. Stepping out of the hover car, they all seemed happy just to be back home. From there, they walked over to their shelters. Now the only thing they wanted to do was eat and sleep after such an eventful day.
