The Lost Princess's Fate

Epilogue

Epilogue

Sep 27, 2024

Democracy...It couldn’t be so bad, could it? Ignoring the fact that Frederick could get voted for, it wasn’t that much of a deal. Out came the man of the terror and in came the savior, right? Emelyn could say so. The girl had always dreamt of democracy all around the kingdoms, and yet it wasn’t the cause everywhere. Mayain had their own underground system, Kordania was stuck in a tyranny, Pyril had a democracy that worked with the chosen one’s son, and Wron...Well, Wron was complicated for now. Their King was dead for now, and their cause was problematic.

The Queen wanted Frederick out, and Edward did. Was it the population’s choice though? That wasn’t determined already, but they made a deal with the man. Of course, he had this small chance, but it wasn’t certain that he was going to lose it. The hazel-eyed woman walked along the nobles and her husband, one step at a time, conscious on their risky gamble. If Edward didn’t get chosen, then how would Kordania grow?

The government placed a few tables side by side with mirrors on each side, that would hide the other. This way, the voting would be private, with no cheating, and everyone could feel free to dress up their own opinion with it. Hopefully, the majority would keep the present Kordanian King. And yet there was one single question running through Emelyn’s mind; if Frederick got chosen, what would happen with her? Would they execute her? She would be alright with the consequence, but The Breaker’s one would be worst, for everything that he did.

Thirteen in the afternoon, with the current King and the old one side to side. At twelve fifty-four, the citizens stopped arriving, and everyone was there. At twelve fifty-nine, every single citadian was standing behind their desk, ready to make an excellent choice for their own good. Emelyn stood to the side, glancing at Edward from afar with hopeful eyes. At twelve fifty-nine and thirteen seconds, the girl knew it was the time for the speech. And so she stood ahead of the group and tried to act confidently.

“Citizens of Kordania...” The woman started as she crossed her arms behind her back, keeping a stoic expression. “You are here today to honor your kingdom. Today, hopefully, starts a new Kordania. You will vote for the man you believe worth the job, and you will be able to have your own privacy; you don’t have to worry. For those who might not get the King they voted for, don’t get angry. If we want a better Kordania, we must be everyone’s left hand and do what we call cooperation. Understood? You have the time you want to vote, until the counting is done. The majority wins.”

Brutally, every single citadian took their pen and their paper, writing down the name they found more justified to have a place. Emelyn wanted to see who they voted for, but she knew that she would have to wait. The wait was killing her, slowly, as she tried to catch her breath. Some wrote aggressively and whispered to their neighbors, and other sent tomatoes at either Edward or Frederick-well, mostly Frederick. The Breaker got mad and groaned with annoyance, pushing the fruits away with a look of disdain.

“Don’t you dare! I am Your King; I do not remember giving you permission to throw fruits at me! The next time you do so, I will not give you food and shelter!”

This won’t convince people to vote for you, the current Queen thought to herself in amusement. Edward was making an act as well, yet it wasn’t as negative as his father’s; he had that sheepish smile on his face, those drowsy eyes that gave him a friendlier look.

“Thanks for the food, you guys!” The younger crown heir exclaimed, grabbing one tomato that slid, shoving it in his mouth politely. “It’s great, it’s not like we have this much food! I love tomatoes!”

After a few minutes or maybe a few hours, everyone was done voting. A noble took all of them and counted them, separating them into different piles. Emelyn inhaled slowly, praying that Edward would get chosen.

“And the new Kordanian King is...Edward Meyer!” The man spoke, as he began clapping his hands.

The people cheered with joy as a new era of their world would come-yet it didn’t make everyone’s happiness. Frederick had his teeth clenched as his face was red with anger, his expression falling to one of despair.

“No!” The Breaker yelled with fury, stepping through the crowd as the citadians would gasp in fear and let him have his place. “That’s not fair! I deserve to have this crown, not my awful son.”

“Our people voted for the one they believed to be worth it, father.” The concerned one said simply. “In their opinion, I would make a better king then you, so you must respect that fact.

Happily, the number of citizens that supported Frederick were not enough to dare rebel against front of their new King. Instead, they leaned forward right in front of Edward, believing that he could make Kordania a better place. The Queen sighed in relief and couldn't help a smile from creeping up her face; they did it!

“What about me?” The Breaker questioned silently, his voice breaking as he spoke.

The nobles seemed not to know the answer to that question, but they didn’t have to worry because the royals had their idea before them. Emelyn met Edward’s eyes to make sure they had the same thought, and so she walked to Frederick, keeping her own unreadable expression.

“Frederick, Frederick, Frederick...We all know you didn’t live the best life...It didn’t really help you to become a good person. In fact, it made you a Tyran. Your broken happiness and your tormented past broke you in a way that you feel like you deserved better-you didn’t get the treatment you wished for. So that’s why we’re giving you a second chance.”

The Kordanians stared at her in shock, their jaws dropping as their eyes widened. Was Sarah willing to give him a second chance? What would she do? Would she give him the throne? Intently, Emelyn paused to see the man’s reaction, who hid his reaction with a frown. Determined to be considered as a model, the woman kept on talking.

“That’s why we’ll send you to Pyril and do community services; you even have plenty of choices there. You’ll learn to respect others and to give yourself the value you truly deserve, since you’ll have a lot of time to think about it.” The girl continued, raising an eyebrow.

The people agreed, the nobles seemed surprised, and Edward looked proud. He would stare at His Queen with admiration, wondering what made her that way. The war he created, probably. He did lead those troops right to her, and she was a survivor. The King had respect for her, for what she did; she made him become a better person, as he didn’t know before then how troubled he was.

His father didn’t have much of a choice. Reluctantly, the retired King nodded as they brought him to Pyril, wanting great treatment. The man’s heart ached-how didn’t he notice how his father was? Earlier then, Frederick looked to be like this naturally, yet it didn’t run in Edward’s head that he was troubled as well.

The lost princess stood in silence as she watched the guards take him away. They did it. They threw him away, and they would make Kordania a better place. Her expression grew warmed as she noticed the people’s happiness; they were free from all that tyranny.

Ten years later, the world changed significantly. No more wars, no more pain. Peace would rule their world as it grew back to as it was before. Yet, there were a few differences; it was three different kingdoms. Mayain was free, once again, but they tied their forces with Kordania. It made one single kingdom, which they called Mayain. Kordania was away to make that one territory. Emelyn and Edward reigned in Mayain in that democracy, as the others had their own rulers as well.

Instead of staying underground, they blew all of that out and created it as it was back then, on the surface. What happened to Frederick? Well, after all those years of working, we thought he would be cured, and yet it wasn’t the case. Tragically, the man left our world five years ago during the work, but the sources didn’t say whether it was accidental or not. The only thing we could agree on is that he had found a better place for himself.

Anastasia and Jack lived in Wron, but Damian wasn’t back-of course, he died ten years ago. Anastasia was fine with her father’s death throughout the years, as it reassured her that he died as a hero. He tried, at least. He made the effort to do something great.

It wasn’t a fairytale in Mayain, though. Not everything was as we saw it in movies, and everyone always had their deals. We could say it was positive; the schools grew more modern, and education was available for everyone. Twenty-one years ago, girls could only go to school if they had wealthy families. But now, everyone could.

Most of all, Skylar, and Jared. Those who ruled Mayain for few years. After seeing what the couple did with Kordania, they fell in love with their technics. Skylar and Jared, shocked by what they did, decided to give her the throne, as well as Jared. In their opinion, they deserved it; so it wasn’t much of a deal. They knew they deserved it.

And what about their relationship, of Edward and Emelyn? Great question. Instead of remaining in the act of faking it, they decided to stop pretending. After a while, both discovered that they went along together, and that they were happy together. Edward could’ve decided to let the crown go and become a citadian, yet he didn’t want to.

After all he did, the King knew that he couldn’t let Emelyn know. Mostly after what she’s been through. The guilt always hit him every time he thought about what he did to her, and how hard he could’ve tried. Obviously, his wife forgave him with her big heart and her deepest understanding of the situation.

The Queen could never completely forgive him, that’s for sure. Yet she loved him and supported him, whether he had a great past or not. At twenty-eight years old, Emelyn was proud of what she became. Was that her fate? Maybe, maybe not. The only thing she did know was that nothing was for sure, and that everything happened for a reason.

Elizabeth ended up hiring for her dream job as a seamstress, following her dreams. The girl was in the League of Fighters, yet her main job was at her shop. Her own shop, her own enterprise. She ended up finding her way.

That’s just to say that everyone ended up having their way. Emelyn knew that it wasn’t over, that everything was just the beginning. The beginning of her very own happiness, and everyone else’s. How did she know? The woman simply did, that’s all. When you have a certitude that prints itself in your head, you can never avoid it.

This is the end of Emelyn Windsor’s story, and how it grew into the lost princess’ fate.
