The plan was simple. Simpler than any plan any of them had ever came up with. Either that day or the rest of their lives. To overcome the army at the entrance of the cave, break through their wall on top of that, and the slight chance of reinforcements coming, the ingenious idea made it way too simple. And it is all thanks to their "new friend". The plan was the giant would grab one of the large rubble and throw it. Throw it so hard and so fast that at the entrance. That it would break through the wall, defeat not only the builders but the reinforcements that have arrived too. Killing all three birds with one stone. Wow. Cītlalli doubted the suggestion however. She walked right up to the giant as me and Coyotl tried to stop her. She looked up at that giant and said with a stern face what was on her mind. The idea seems way too simple. Simple enough for problems to take hold. "First!" She exasperated. "The rock may not reach the entrance as there are twists and turns in the cave that will stop the projectile. It was a complex treck to reach this side of the cave. If the rock could reach it however, then the rubble may not be enough to remove the builders. They could send more than the reinforcements as their base is currently close by. Lastly, the reinforcements may come and surround them along with more soldiers from this base." The giant stared at her, if Cītlalli had any fear, she did not showed it well, only what a metal pot looks like over a fire. Those few seconds felt like minutes of staring. Until the giant said, "You're right, we're gonna need 2 for this". It then held up her thumb and aimed it at seventy five degrees of the opening above. Right there and then Cītlalli was about to burst but before she could say anything, the giant through the boulder. A strong swoosh came by, followed by rocks shattering at loud volumes, and after three seconds, a loud crash with screams right after. The giant then scooped us and a boulder in its other hand. A size larger than its head. It hugged us like three dolls close to its chest and rushed to the entrance. The deep cavern was then scaled by the giant with a single jump. It then ran upright as if the cave was a perfect size for it. It ran and ran, making the long journey me and my friends took to that cavern feel like a short jog. And after five minutes, we were at the entrance of the cave. The giant was successful in destroying not only the barrier but the builders as well. However, so too was Cītlalli, the reinforcements only came after the barrier was broken. The giant smirked and rolled the boulder in its hand, tossed it in the air, and whacked it with its elbows like the game ōllamalitzli. That must have hurt and yet the boulder flew right into the army. Making them all fly into the air from the impact. However, the giant did not stop. It ran and ran. I caught a glimpse of the cave and base next to it's arm. They started to grow tinier and tinier by the second. We then finally made it to the divide between the lands. It then jumped over the wide divide and landed barely on the other side. She then ran at the direction of our base.... Meters and meters across. It reached it in only a few minutes and waht luck that it chose that direction alone.
Right when the base was walking distance. She shifted towards the right side of it and kept running. It whispered but felt like a scream to us. "Another one?!?!" it said. We began to assure it that it was our base. That they will not send in any reinforcements. The giant stopped immediately and left a treadmark on the ground. It gently propped us down but looked with concern. Coyotl replied quickly "Yes, yes, no one will attack you or track you down". The giant raised a brow. I quickly added "Let us go first into the city and warn them not to hurt our savior and hero". It smiled. Wide and creepy. In its mouth was rows of sharp serrated teeth. White as the clouds above us. It's eyes did not help. The black void at its center gave us warning. It had experience like us. But in combination with the smile, it enjoys it. It got up and we were reminded of its stature once more. It took ten steps back, all while staring at us, and disappeared into the night, as well as a snicker from Citalli. Despite its size, it is skilled in hiding.
All three of us walked back. As we entered our village, glancing at the other. We wondered if there is more of them. In the very least, we should have seen more than one or heard stories of one but this is the only encounter in our history. With how it hid, theres a thought between us three if there were more, hidden. We whispered amongst ourselves, debating if this were true, arguing if any of the thousands of stories we heard would talk about the giant. Coyotl came up and said that if there were more. It would've called out to them when she was captured. Let them come out of hiding and killed all those that bared witness. He brings up that it needed them. Needed a way to escape. Cītlalli mentioned that if they were hiding from everyone. They wouldn't risk it. Make them believe that there is no other and allow for their friend to die. She then went on on ways they could've hidden it like using Fake ruins and Fake scrolls. All misleading to their existance. I was taken aback. Not by the off chance there are more but by her knowledge on the subject. No matter. If there are more or just one, we must ask our tlatoani for his wisdom.
Before we could enter his house, the guards had stopped us. "Years, you had not slept under this house but now, you come here with your underlings?" they scorned. I told them that I would not come without a cause and those with me will verify what I have to say. They were about to argue but they were immidiately ordered to let us pass byt the tlatoani himself. As we entered, they were staring daggers into us. We showed our respect and waited for him to speak. Once he granted us permission to speak, we asked for it to be in privacy. Another demand. He asked what news could not be spoken amongst his tlacochcalcatl. I h his hand eldtightraised my hand and stared into him. His guards began forcing us to leave for our comment. He simply waved and all dispersed from the room without another retort. We told him of what happened. What we had just done at their base with worry. For it is a shame by a warrior to attack their base, hidden, and unaware. That though they will slaughter millions of their people. It is by the duty of a warrior to face their enemies only on the muddy battlefield and no other. Our plan was to keep it hidden, make up stories on a bunch of bandits, crooks, or even our enemies beyond the great sea. I could see the disappointment in his eyes yet he did not spoke. He waited until we finished. When we brought up the giant, his face sank. It froze not of fear but of concern. Nothing will scare our tlatoani. Not even the largest being we have faced. With only a few more details spoken, the tlatoani rose up from his throne. Wore his sandals and walked down to us. He assured us that what we had done will be punished and demanded we speak nothing of the giant, if it remained hidden until now, then it shall remain hidden, henceforth. I argued, the other village would know and.. He cut me off, he told us that it will be one of many stories made up by the opposing village. Stories that would demean us, mislead us, and scare us. No one would believe them. There, I told him, they could ally with it. His face soured. "How could they convince such a beast to join them" he asked. I answered in a solemn tone what I thought over as that beast carried us. "They can offer protection." The tlatoani looked confused.
"After one offer of mercy, the giant helped us. Even after it was in the clear, it spared us. I told the tlatoani it can stand to reason, to have complex thoughts. It can think, it can be kind. If another village were to create a bond with it. It can become a great weapon, capable of wiping villages by itself." I said solemnly. For a whole minute, the emperor was silent. Then he proclaimed "As it seems the monster is dangerous, the village it attacked will not seek alliances. Only two villages know of its existence. A temporary alliance must be done. Once we are done, it will be the largest offer we can give to the gods and maybe we form a bond with that village itself. Another village to trade.". My allies showed their respect and was about to take their leave. They planned to tell the other high generals of this plans to prepare by tomorrow. I stopped them and asked the leader "What if we were to form a bond with the giant itself.". Everyone in the room but me, had shown a sense of fear or disgust. I did my best to explain with the same reasons as before. I added some more with how effecient it was at defeating its foes. How resourceful and reasonable it is yet all fell to deaf ears. Knowing full well that my generals will not support me on this, I asked the tlatoani to give the command. This was not the first surprising act I asked of him before that was unreasonable to him. "You'd choose one beast over a whole village?" he asked sternly. He added that such beasts cannot always be truste, Not even with some of the villages we trade with can turn on us in a moments notice. I was about to mention the fault in his statement but he mentioned that at least a village will see the importance of partnership. Both will rely on each other for resources, protection, and support for their endeavors. For the monster, it can pillage for its food, use itself for its own protection and support. "Would the monster truly ally with us?" he asked. "Yes it will." I said with all my strength
"Convince the village then." he ordered in a sarchastic yet serious tone. A village of mostly warriors, to ally with the giant. We were surprised of his quick agreement with us. In the very least, he did not asked for more details, question the validity of our stories. He simply agreed. Worst of all, he asked that I would be the only one to convince them. My felllow Tlacochcalcatl, high generals and men from the house of darts, did not trust me. But my other underlings the Tlācateccatl, generals and cutter of men, did not liked me either. To tell them that they must not harm a giant we barely spoke too... No matter, those in my position must never show fear nor take a step back. "You are the tlatoani, the one who rules over us all. Whose wisdom and accomplishments have surpassed every warrior for centuries, why would we need the opinion of the whole village? With one word, they would follow in a single heart beat!" I shouted. He then told me in the calmest manner "I may command them, but they may only follow by body and not by heart or mind. A tlatoani to be a leader must understand the people. If there is doubt in their minds, there are flaws in your plan, if there is despise in your plans then it is morally questionable. The leader is the representation of the whole village, so it must be the village to decide for it will recieve the punishment and faults but not the leader. The leader could simply move on with its life but not the village". I as usual, cannot talk back. There is a reason why we all look up to him. He taught me so much things and guided me with his wisdom. Like this very moment, how I could convince him and the whole village to accept the quinametzin.
