A day with Ametyr Salem
Subject: Civic duties & Constitution
Teacher: Annya M. Silva
Student: Lilium Ethel
6th year, B class
As per my mother’s request, this report couldn’t have been done on her. Following the instructions of Ms. Silva, I turned to the next closest adult my mother trusts, and so the report on Ametyr Salem, Head of Recruitment and Training in at Evite, begins! Ametyr has been a loyal employee for over 20 years, and has worked closely with both Erasmus and Choli Ethel, my grandfather and father and previous owners of Evite.
Ms. Salem’s day begins hauntingly early, I was asked to be by her door Monday at 4 am. Although Heads of Evite are required to have their primary residence inside the headquarters only through Monday and Friday, Ms. Salem chose to make her quarters her full-time residence for a few years now.
Once we’ve met, I was taken to do first rounds alongside her, which meant I was tasked to do a remote roll call on the newly hired (both hired through normal means and the rehabilitation program), which are also required to stay at the headquarters during their first few months, as it strengthens bonds of comradery and allow her team to keep a close eye on them to make sure they have the right profile for the company, Ms. Salem explained. During roll call, she reviewed reports from the security team about the previous weekend, as Evite has lost its previous Head of Security during last semester’s earthquake. It was explained that her involvement with the security team only goes as long as the Head is unoccupied, and the role should be filled out soon, as she already has candidates in mind.
We were done by 6, as “roll call” also includes coordinating groups from 10-30 newbies to their tasks of the day, as Evite has over 200 trainees, it did take a while to get through them all; the list of tasks was previously prepared by Mr. Aarseth S., her secretary, but because he has taken this week off for a sick leave, it too was left for us to do. Ms. Salem seems undisturbed by the additional workload, and expressed her preference for managing extra work herself, as to not overload her subordinates and fellow Heads.
We had breakfast together then, having insisted after I informed her I had eaten before coming and mother probably wouldn’t allow it, but she said today’s chef had prepared a special meal upon being informed of my visit, and mother wouldn’t allow ever harder me putting a good man’s work to waste. So we headed for the cafeteria. :)
When 8 came by, we were headed back to work. We sat
through a presentation by on the most recent scores for the rehabilitation
program and some names stuck out the most, I was told these individiuls individuals
are at the end of their 3-month program, and will most likely be invited to stay
in the company, but even if the others weren’t as good, most will still leave
with a good recommendation letter for their reinsertion in society! When asked
what happened to those who fail the program, or if there was ever a real troublemaker
that needed to be expelled, I was met with “the State deals with these cases
one by one” and “the rehab is a voluntary program and we expect a good conduct
by their part, but they’re free to return to their previous custody if they
would rather wait out their years”, this was confirmed by one of the governor’s
secretary, who also sat at the meeting.
The next meeting was at 10, now about the trainees in the normal recruitment program, although both groups are trained together as to be offered the same conditions, their evaluations are separated because of the lower stakes involved. In this meeting sat a representative of each sector of the company, taking notes and at the end a few lists were received by Ms. Salem with the candidates the representatives most felt like would fit within their branch. It was explained that this specific program is only for high school level, and those who had more specific backgrounds went through a hiring process directly with the sub-secretaries of Recruitment of each branch, and Ms. Salem was rarely involved.
At 11 am, we were to go through the documents of today’s
meeting, when an incident took place at the training grounds. When they were
informed of my precense presence, the officer asked me to not include details
of the incident in this report as it was a police matter. We were done giving
our statements by 14 and I told Ms. Ametyr I would return at 16, when it would
all have calmed down by then, and she agreed it would be the best option. We
couldn’t have lunch together because of that.
There was an emergency meeting at 16, where I would have met Ms. Ametyr, the other Heads, and my brother Jonathan, who I hadn’t seen in a good while. I was asked by Jonathan not to participate, as it would contain mature content about the incident, which is so unfair because Jonathan is barely an adult himself and, most importantly, I was there! >:(
I sat with a
guard until they were done, and only by 17 Ametyr picked me up to go through
those documents. She said today was an unnordinnary unon unusual
day, and in the three years since Mr. Aarseth became her secretary, no unruly
behavior had been reported with the inmates, much less something like that, and that she was sorry
I had to witness, but because I had warned her beforehand, the victims all
had good survival chances, but it was all handled now. I expressed my
opinion that Mr. Aarseth was doing a good job as secretary then, and she smiled! I think that was a smile, at least. She stretched her lips slightly, yes.
We went through the documents together in her office,
but once it turned 18:00, Ametyr was demanted insisted I left and returned
home, as the work day was officially over. She escorted me out of her office,
and immediately went back to finish the documents by herself.
Teacher’s
notes: No smiley’s on homework. Dissertations and reports should be impersonal,
personal opinions were disregarded. It is advised that from now on you send in printed reports, as editing it will be easier.
