Wide eyes stared back at Caleb. Sure, Caleb's swearing wasn’t anything new, albeit he hates when anyone around him swears, but the implied closeness that Caleb had swearing around someone was… regretful. Whatever that means.
Belen was far too caught up in his own worries to have to go back to caring about the boy and so he rather quickly steeled his face.
Shoving past, Belen moved into the room and took in his unsurprisingly quaint surroundings.
Two twin beds sat across from each other with a singular desk partitioning them. The closed curtains allowed for little light to escape into the room, exuding an aura of clean but quite frankly a plain white insane asyllum look to it. No, the walls weren’t padded, but the clear lack of little knick-knacks and, well, animal heads left something to wish for.
Sighing, Belen accepted his living arrangements and ripped the curtains open to let in the light but was sorely disappointed by the wall on the other side.
He certainly knew it would be like this. It doesn’t make it any easier of course. At least the light bounced off the wall enough to create an illusion of a bright room.
Finding the lights, Caleb turned them on and sat down on one of the beds.
“You’ll have to forgive me at some point, you know. It’s not my fault you’re… overdramatic for lack of a better word.”
“I am not overdramatic!”
“I said ‘for lack of a better word’! And yes, you kind of are. There’s really no point denying it.”
“Well, you’re gay!”
“... yes?”
Belen had nothing to say to that. His attempt at an insult was utterly shut down by the cold hard truth. Caleb being gay was nothing new, just the confusion on his face was
Stuck in awkward silence, Belen gave up and moved to the other bed, plopping down on it face first.
Before either of them could speak, there came a knock at the still-open door. Looking over, Belen was astounded to see a small figure framed by the doorway.
The scent made it clear they were an omega.
“Another omega?” Belen whispered under his breath, face giving away how surprised he was.
Before he could think any further though, the omega’s soft voice filled the room.
“Hi! I’m Sol. It’s nice to finally meet you… both.”
Caleb immediately got on the defensive and stood up to do something, although what exactly that something was; Belen didn’t know.
Belen quickly did the same in response and looked down at his clothes to see if there was anything he needed to fix. He would be lying if he said he didn’t need to fix all of it, but the quick brush of debris off his ripped jeans made him feel a little better.
The omega, or, well, Sol, seemed like he didn’t even notice Caleb get up. He was completely fixated on Belen.
Resorting to nervous fidgeting, Belen tried to get over his social anxiety and give an introduction in response but was quickly shut down by Caleb who jumped in.
“Why are you here?”
“Um… because I was asked to be?” Sol looked over at Caleb and responded back in a questioning tone as if he didn’t know why he was either.
“Huh. Well, you can tell whoever told you to F U C K off,” Caleb loudly proclaimed.
Frightened, the other omega froze in shock and moved to run away.
Running forward and reaching out his hand to grab at the omega’s arm, Belen just barely grasped it before it was quickly wrenched out of his reach.
“Don’t touch me!” Sol screamed. He quickly withdrew into himself like a frightened prey before the jaws of a predator.
Belen retracted back and stood speechless, not sure of what to do. Before he could even make so much as a sound, the other omega was out of sight, having run off.
“I’m sorry,” Belen said to the thin air where the omega had been. In no way had he meant to scare Sol, and yet he had triggered him in some way.
Folding into himself, Belen felt a wave of emotions go through him as he tried not to cry. It had been so hard to stay calm in the face of a disaster and this was the last straw that broke the camel’s back. His anxiety was making his heart beat out of his chest. He had never met another omega before and he had completely ruined it by scaring him away.
But then, of course, he realized that it was Caleb who initially alarmed him. Therefore, it was all Caleb’s fault.
Blurry vision receding, Belen was finally able to see Caleb bending down to look at him, concern playing on his face.
Unable to control the hurt and anger that built up from the initial betrayal, Belen violently shoved him away and stomped over to his bed, punching the pillows imagining that they were Caleb’s face.
After a long minute of dead silence, while Belen let out his anger, he finally tired out and dug himself under the covers.
Sorry for the massive delay. I've been pretty busy. Otherwise, just wondering if I should change the ending of this episode a little bit? Does Belen go too back and forth with his emotions?
Forced to marry an alpha in which his heart does not reside, this poor omega is sent down a treacherous path full of betrayal, conquest, and hatred. The only thing stopping him from running away, an attempt at freedom, is the comfort of a fellow omega under a similar condition. The two together try to fight against society's harsh rule, seeking to create a world in which they are able to feel at peace, finally free from fighting against everyone in their midst. Everyone who has failed them.
