"Well, I'll be damned," Alex thought, half amazed and half amused. "I didn't even know worms could jump. What's next, a worm marathon?" 

The hole was snug but provided just enough space for him to wriggle through. He could hear the frustrated squawks of the bird above, its beaks scraping the earth futilely. Sorry, feathered fiend! This is a worm-only zone! Safe for the moment, Alex continued to wriggle deeper into the hole, which seemed to stretch on endlessly. 

As he moved, Alex couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of his situation. "Who knew being a worm could be this exciting? First, a bird attack, and now, an impromptu spelunking adventure. Sign me up for the worm Olympics!" 

The tunnel eventually opened into a small underground chamber, dimly lit by bioluminescent fungi clinging to the walls. The chamber was spacious enough for Alex to stretch out and take a breather. Finally, a little legroom! Or, you know, whatever passes for that in my new squishy life. He noticed a small puddle of water in the corner, reflecting the faint glow of the fungi. Great, a natural light show and hydration station—who knew the worm life came with perks? 

"Alright, let's see where we are," Alex muttered to himself, wiggling closer to the puddle. He glanced at his reflection, taking in his pink, squishy form. "Not exactly my best look, but hey, I'm rocking the 'earthworm chic' vibe."
