Mortimer's eyes lit up. "Fantastic! Just hop on this platform, and we'll get started!" 

Alex paused for a moment. Hop on? Easy for you to say; I'm basically a squishy noodle with no jumping skills! He took a deep breath—metaphorically, of course—and wriggled his way onto the platform, hoping this wouldn't turn into some bizarre worm-themed amusement ride. 

With a surge of eagerness, he quivered with anticipation. "Alright, let's see what this subterranean vehicle can do!" 

Mortimer clapped his paws together, clearly thrilled to have a willing test subject. "Excellent choice! Hold on tight—well, as tight as a worm can manage," he said, adjusting a few levers and pulling a bright red switch. The platform began to hum and vibrate beneath Alex, and he felt a strange sensation as it started to sink into the earth. "Here we go! Just don't turn me into worm sushi!" 

"Whoa! I didn't sign up for a roller coaster ride!" Alex thought, his mind racing as the platform descended smoothly. Soon, they were gliding through the earth like a worm on a magic carpet ride. The walls of the tunnel flashed past, illuminated by tiny lanterns Mortimer had installed. 

"This is incredible!" Alex exclaimed internally. I can't believe I'm actually traveling through the earth like this. Who knew I'd be living my best worm life?
