While the King moved on with life, for Val it was a different life that made him into the man he would one day become. For that day his path in life was forever altered or perhaps saved.
It was on the fateful day he was playing with his cars that his mom got for him. When his dad came into the room handed him a box and to him, he was told to wear it at all times. When his mom came in after his father left to go to a meeting, she put the necklace around his neck giving him a kiss on the forehead. She was the only one who loved him in that place, or so he felt. She started to play with him when she fell to the floor laying in front of him, motionless. Scared and crying he tried to wake her up when his dad came running and shoving him out of the way.
The backhanded slap he received from him was the last thing he needed to make him realize there was no love. For this slap broke what remnants of love for his father in his heart. He asked the nanny repletely why his dad yelled at him and hit him. She could never give him an answer for she didn't know, but she figured it out long ago. Yet she didn’t have the heart to tell him for he was only a boy, a boy she thought of like a son. Picking up all of his toys and adding the necklace to the box was the last thing he remember before being knocked out. When he awoke, he was in the back of a van in chains. The van came to a screeching halt in front of a plane, and he was carried inside of it to be placed on a seat then retied. The plane would take them to Parcia which was a small native village over five hundred miles from Donair.
The grey hair man inquired how old he was, but he was too scared to answer so he got slapped for not answering the question. In a very quiet voice, he managed to get out the word - two. Landing the plane on a narrow strip it was taxied to a fuel truck where it was refilled. Then it was taxing down the running way taking off for the country of Garvania. Where the rest of the team were waiting with the vehicles to go to their base of operation. Finding an even strip of road to land was very tough for the road was very uneven and filled with potholes. Lowering the wheels the pilot descended to the strip of road and managed to land the plane coming to a halt in front of their vehicles.
Carlos threw a wad of cash at the pilot for his service and exited the plane dragging the boy behind him. Next the boy was put into the truck between two men whenever he mentioned that he was thirsty and hungry Carlos turned around to slap his face. Ever time he asked for something he was either slapped or backhanded until he quit asking. Many a night he went to bed hungry and thirsty before falling into a rough sleep. This would go on for a time even Val lost track of the days and nights, for each one blended together.
One of his men seeing how scared and hungry he was would sneak him some food and water but not very often. Out of fear of being caught. Stopping for the night in a small clearing a couple of men scouted the area to report that it was clear. Camp was quickly set up and he was dragged over to sit by the fire. Watching the men settled down for the night he was tossed a biscuit which he picked up to eat for he was hungry. When no one was watching he would twist his wrist back and forth trying to pull it out. After trying for awhile he laid down to fall into a light sleep. Come morning he was nudged by a foot to wake up that was when the old man looking at his wrists. For his wrists were bloody and scraped raw from all of his twisting and turning.
The old man was furious and let out a series of swear words as he unchained the boy. With a couple slaps he threw the boy down and ripped his shirt open exposing his back. Taking his belt from his waist he laid it across the boys back several time. With each blow the belt would cut his skin which went on for awhile. A few of his men couldn't take it anymore and pulled him off for the child had enough causing him to storm off. A man kneeled beside him to see if he was alive, and he was. The men made a group decision to guard the boy till they got to Port Innes. A brave soldier asked him why he hated the child so much. The venom from Sago's mouth was so foul that a few of his men took some steps back.
Apparently, the boy's father who happened to be King Jamal of Donair had ordered a raid on his home while he was gone. Resulting in his wife and two-year-old son being killed by a bomb blast which destroy several other buildings beside their home. He swore over their grave that he would avenge their deaths. Nobody in the group said anything for they all realized that the child would never see another sunrise if they didn't do something.
