Chapter 19.
Uncertainty.
Dominic had barely arrived to deliver the briefcases with the photos… Peter was waiting for him and asked him if he had any problems, and he only told him that it had been one of the easiest jobs, since the motel itself had taken care of making the bodies disappear.
Peter smiled as he looked at each photo and checked the phones, but they were empty names, just a couple of rat men who had thought they had gotten away with it…
It wasn't until Peter commented: there's a photo missing and Dominic, who knew exactly which photo he was referring to, openly asked about who Yurik and Ritchie's relative was, to which he simply got the answer: don't stick your nose where you're not called; it doesn't matter who they are and who their relatives are.
That seemed more like a camouflaged threat than an answer, which was strange to him because they had been working together most of their lives, and now, getting this answer felt somehow like someone was making fun of him for being stupid…
¿Was he acting like a complete idiot to get that kind of answer, or was it just the stress that had been generated by the infiltrators that were speaking through his boss?
He wanted to believe that it was the stress that was speaking and not that they were real words, not when he thought of claiming the boy in the future as a prize, which was why when Peter told him to leave, he didn't hesitate to do it silently.
As they were alone, before leaving, he heard his boss's voice speaking through the speakers telling him not to think too much about the old man and the young man, not to create wrong theories in his mind, that he was only the father of a member, so Dominic waving his hand in the air finished leaving knowing that his boss had practically told him that last thing as a way of erasing what he had mentioned before...
This was the women's trick or at least it was a kind way that men had of mediating their words to him, he knew it, because he knew Peter since she was a woman until she finished making her transition...
Having parked at a bar, the man ordered a couple of beers and told the waitress to mix them with rum and add salt to the drink, upon hearing that she asked him if he was going through some kind of breakup, to which he only commented: I don't have a breakup, but I do have a bipolar boss, then she told him: if you want to talk about it, come on big boy, let it out, I'm here to listen to you.
But the man was not stupid to open his mouth in that place, he knew that if he said something there it would definitely be on the hottest news of the morning, so he just said to her: calm down, continue your shift, I just need to finish the two beers and the bottle of rum, I don't want your company…
