A battle broke out in the small tavern. I could only imagine how the owner felt, the clean up after the ordeal must be hell. It had nothing to do with me, so I went back to enjoying my long-deserved stew.
It didn’t take long before a large man flew and landed hard where I was sitting. I could only sigh. In all honesty, I did feel a little cranky because I wanted something good to eat tonight before I had to loom around and win an auction.
Do I let loose here and take out the brutish men that have ruined my night?
Another one flew and fell on top of the other that had arrived before him. That was the last straw. I wanted to stay lowkey, and I probably had to find another tavern to dine at tomorrow. I took out my staff I had wrapped up and used it to beat a sixth man that was hidden in the shadows.
I had noticed him when the other five made their move. I do not know what his purpose was, but the ordeal was annoying. And I was likely doing the four men a favor by taking the hidden man out.
“And this is for ruining my night!” I said as I hit him harder with the staff until I felt satisfied.
He was knocked out cold and I felt people staring at me. I made sure the hood was covering my face before I bolted out of there before anyone said anything or called the guards.
“That was dumb...” I mumble to myself. “At least I didn’t use any spells, but the staff is a dead giveaway”
I made sure to wrap the staff well before I secured it onto the back of the backpack I wore. I’ll apologize to my master for having used his present this way. Mages were rare in this world and if you were suspected of being one, people would try to hunt you down to monopolize you. Luckily, there was no hate towards mages, but it is scary to what lengths people would go to gain the favor of a mage.
I have to be careful from now on.
