S1-EP06: The Library

S1-EP06: The Library

Oct 07, 2024

I was walking down the corridors on my way to the library, but this time without Landsat-9. Sometimes I would see a satellite or two around a corner, but none of them looked like what I remembered Landsat-9 as. 'Socialize with other spacecraft' she says, but anytime I look at another satellite that's not Landsat-9, it feels like it messes up my software, and a little bit of my hardware around the computers. It's like I gotta go through that awkward introduction all over again.

It, too, was odd to hear what they were talking about when I walked by.
"Are you gonna watch SolO's launch?"
"Yeah for sure."
"Did you hear about Iridium whats-her-number?"
"You know I'll never guess who you're talking about, right?"
"I sent one of my engineers a picture of a dog."
"Why."

I made it to the hallway with the entrance to the library after one final right turn near a classroom. The entrance still had the same static shiny appearance of a cleanroom, but the doors were a nice golden wood texture that made it look much more welcoming than any other door I've seen so far. There was a rather small and elongated rectangular window on the upper half of each of the doors, and I could easily tell it was a pretty well-lit library. I took a few steps towards the door and grabbed the left handle, the one closest to me. It was a dull silver like a few other handles I've seen, but it really complimented that nice gold wood.

There wasn't much hesitation to open the door like there was when I stepped inside this school for the first time. I was wondering if I was finally getting the feel of it.

I took a peak inside, and by jove, was it some other world. I meant that in the most positive and comforting way. The collections and shelves of different books and other kinds of literature just immediately grabbed my attention like they were guide stars, or some rare outburst of activity on a celestial object. It was quiet, but quiet in a comforting way. The spacecraft there were barely even talking, but rather doing their own things and just peacefully co-existing without even having to communicate.

The second floor had even more of what I could see from the bottom floor, and I tried my best to keep quiet and to calmly walk about the aisles. It was so much that I really didn't care where I'd go first, because in the end I think I'd love it all.

It was shelf after shelf. Non-fiction to fiction to references and study guides. I wanted to read it all. MGS said I could check some of them out...well not actually check out at the desk, but just check them out while I was here. I walked over to the back of the library and found some more fiction books. I wanted to get myself into a little adventure, maybe a book about exploring a new world would take me somewhere.

"Oh, I like this...Oh, what about this one? Hmm..." I whisphered to myself as I was going from my left of the shelf to my right. I decided to narrow it down to one book that seemed to be about an oversea travel, and it wasn't too long but just enough to suit my curiosity.

I was walking away from the shelves and into some concentrated light nearby a table, and that's when my software froze for a nanosecond.

It was Landsat-9 at the table in front of me.

I skimmed right back to the shelf, pulled the book to my body, and for some reason feeling embarrassed, too. Actually, I think I was just shy. Oh yeah, shy to the stars and beyond. He was just reading at the table! That's all! I wanted to join him so much, but augh! How do I do it?

I took slow but really casually masked steps behind him like I was just wandering about. I was just staring at what he was reading and overall just the Landsat-y appearance. He was enjoying himself, I knew it, and that made me a little happy to see deep inside.

I made it into a reasonably normal range with him and the chair next to him. I could feel my hardware tensing up already, even my legs were slightly loosing balance as if I was already at Jupiter and the crushing gravity was tugging me down. I opened my mouth and stared at him, hugging the book that I got ever so tightly.

"Uhm," He heard that. He heard that and he turned around at me. "Er-h-hi." Hi? What happened to the question? Is it that hard to go 'can I sit down here?' when I already know him??? To an extent???

"Oh, hey Clipper! How was the orientation?"
"Ah, it wasn't much. I just talked about classes."
"That's good. Hey, uh, did ya wanna sit down here next to me? I can show you a little about what I was talking about to you earlier." he wants me to sit down with him?! Don't get me wrong, I was absolutely relieved, but he-he wants me to be with him? Oh my goodness...

"Oh, yeah, yeah!" I promptly sat down next to him with my book to the side. He turned to the first pages of his book and I had my cameras directly into the words and pictures.

"Okay, so, first of all, you've gotta know which plants can grow in which conditions..."
