Alec
Alec walked downstairs, his mind was so busy trying to figure out what the sound was that he nearly tripped.
“I definitely kicked something.. But there was nothing there?” Alec muttered to himself, “Maybe I need some more coffee. I’ll check upstairs again later.” After all, if there really was something there, it’ll still be there later.
The cats that he just recently fed were starting to follow him again. Alec scooped up a cat and carried him down the stairs with him. The cats had been more clingy after Eve’s death. Alec guessed that the cats had both noticed her absence, and his grief. He paused at the bottom of the stairs and sat down, burying his face in Griffith, the ginger cat he held.
“You all are probably sad too, huh?” He sniffed, inhaling cat fur as he did so, Griffith simply started eating Alec’s hair. By the time that Alec lifted his face out of Griffith’s fur, the cat was very ready to scratch him in the face to run away. Alec let him go and Griffith slunk away into the shadows with an annoyed few licks on his side where Alec’s tears got his fur wet.
Alec sighed and got up, Eve had always told him that if she died, he had to keep himself together or else he’d lose himself. She was such a bubbly person, but she frequently mentioned her death. Alec suspected it was due to both of her parents dying when she was young.
“What would you want me to do if you were still here..?” He murmured as he made his way back to his office. He had long since finished his large cup of coffee, so he picked up the mug and put it in the sink in the growing pile of dishes. Eve had the habit of not cleaning up after herself despite Alec’s chastising. Her excuse was that she had a cleaning crew come whenever the house was messy. He chuckled to himself as he realized he’s now falling into the very rut that he hated before.
