Time Loop

In the right place at the right time

In the right place at the right time

Oct 31, 2024

"So, we understand that it had to happen this way." The girl expressed her opinion on the matter, trying to find an explanation for the entire situation that had unfolded.

"I don’t know. I’m so confused, but at the same time, I wanted to follow Seoho. He’s like those jokers who show up without even being asked. I felt it was right to follow him. To trust him." I smiled slightly as Sana patted my shoulder.

"If you felt it that way, then it was meant to be. I’m sure you’ll get the chance to help him." The girl smiled, and I sighed, standing up from my seat.

It was a mistake; I had been sitting too long in one place, and the sudden movement brought a black screen before my eyes. I tried to steady myself on my feet, but I quickly staggered back, fortunately caught by the man behind me.

"Jaesung! Just in time!" Sana clapped her hands as she stood up almost immediately when I wobbled, trying to splash my face with some cold water from the thermos she always kept in her bag.

"I feel like if I’m not here to soften his falls every time, he’ll end up hurting himself without me. Why do you keep falling for me, Mr. Hyun?" The man laughed as he slowly laid me back on the grass, my head resting on Sana's lap, while my legs found a place on Jaesung's.

"It’s not on purpose…" I whispered in my defense.

"Is everything alright?" He asked Sana, who sighed and shook her head.

"It’s the weather. He’s feeling faint." She smiled, and I laughed.

Of course, there was no way we could tell him the truth. I didn’t want anyone else to think I was crazy.

"I’ll be fine. I shouldn’t have gone out at all." I commented, managing to shift my gaze to Jaesung’s.

"Let me take you home. I won’t let you go back alone in this heat or, worse, on public transport." He exclaimed, and Sana immediately accepted his offer.

Whatever he was saying, it was a bit too much, and it showed how much she liked him.

Sana gently lifted my head, and with Jaesung's help, they straightened me up and slowly made our way to the man’s car. I didn’t know he drove, but apparently, there was a first time for everything. I settled into the back seat, and with Jaesung's assistance, I buckled up and took a deep breath. Sana settled in the front, her smile shining brighter than the sunlight reflecting in the side mirrors. Sometimes I wondered, who wouldn’t actually like her?

An enthusiastic character, full of ideas and dreams. Great potential to become a professional and qualities in almost every field related to communication with people. I mentioned this before, but I’ll say it again. In the part of my book, Sana held the most weight. My best friend, my closest person. The beginning of my story started with her, which is why I wanted it to end with her. I relied on what we had between us. I didn’t see it as anything romantic, but simply a pure, blossoming friendship.

With these thoughts, the car soon began to move. Pictures were painted outside the car window, changing not only in color but also in imagery with every passing second. I listened to Sana as she tried to talk to Jaesung, whose gaze I often caught in the rearview mirror.

The worry in his eyes couldn’t escape my notice. The heaviness in his head, the weight of the dark circles under his eyes, sleepless nights that I unfortunately went through as well. I didn’t need to talk to him to understand. I didn’t need to listen to hear him. It was a strange phenomenon that was unfamiliar to my mind, but sensually, it was painfully known to me. Perhaps it was too early for you to understand as well, but I’m sure in time you will.

"Well, here we are. I’ll ask you to accompany him inside." The man requested as he parked a little before my house.

"Aren’t you coming with us?" Sana asked, and he laughed nervously.

"Yes, after all, you helped me; I’d like to treat you to something, and I’m sure you’re thirsty. It’s not easy to drive in this heat." I spoke, but he shook his head firmly.

"Thank you for the invitation, but I really have to hurry. Maybe some other time?" He asked with a smile, still looking at me through the rearview mirror.

"Okay, no problem. Again, thank you. We’ll see each other again." I smiled as I got out of the car, and before Sana exited, the man pulled her hand, saying something to her.

I couldn’t hear, but I tried to follow Sana’s expressions; from them, I could tell if it was something bad or good. However, when I saw her smile, I calmed my mind and stepped back to let the girl out of the car. We waved goodbye, and soon we could no longer see him in the distance.

"What did he say to you?" I asked curiously, and Sana giggled, pinching my shoulder.

"I’m not going to tell you. It’s a secret." She stuck out her tongue at me as she walked toward my house to accompany me.

In the end, I could only pout. Even if I didn’t know what they had talked about, it didn’t keep me in suspense. It was normal for us to have secrets between each other, right?

"Sana! What a pleasant surprise!" My mother started clapping her hands and kissing the girl who entered my house before me, and only after that did I receive my hug.

"You don’t look too well. What’s wrong?" My mother asked, placing her hand on my forehead, and I smiled.

"I’m fine. It’s just the weather." I replied as the woman helped me enter, closing the door after both Sana and I came in.

"I suppose it wasn’t very pleasant for you to come all the way here by public transport; after all, that was your only option to get to the university on time." The woman sighed.

"Not really…" Before I could speak, Sana interrupted me, laughing awkwardly.

"Yeah, it wasn’t particularly pleasant, but we managed to get here safe and sound. Keith’s condition scared me, but fortunately, we made it here." She said, and my mother went to the kitchen with a smile on her face.

"Next time, you can call us; we’ll come pick you up without a problem!" The woman said contentedly as she seated Sana at one of the chairs in the kitchen and poured us each a glass of apple juice.

I’ll spare you the conversations that lasted half an hour about how studies were going and whether Sana had already found a boyfriend. It was clear that my parents were trying to set me up with her, but both she and I saw things differently.

"Thank you very much for your stay. I’ll stop by again someday! Keith, take care; we’ll see each other on Monday!" Sana called out just before she left, and as soon as I saw her off, I closed myself in my room.

I didn’t want to stay in the same room with my parents until I figured out what they were hiding from me. To be honest, I wanted to take a long break, but at the same time, curiosity was pressing. Another letter? Why not.

I took the letters out of my backpack, arranging them on my bed and examining each one.

"Another one from Jin Woo." I whispered the name written on one of the letters, slowly picking it up while putting the others back in the bag.

The idea of reading a letter alone wasn’t one of my best ideas, but I probably couldn’t always expect someone’s help if I accidentally messed up something. I wanted to take a step toward doing something on my own, no matter how difficult it might be.

I opened the letter, and the initials "J" and "W" fell out of the envelope. If you have a bracelet on your wrist that someone else put on for you, take it off and try to fasten it again by yourself... yeah, it’s not easy, but it’s not impossible. I threaded the initials, spending at least 15 minutes trying to put it back on my wrist. It was a fun little adventure, but hardly as much as what was actually coming next.

I unfolded the letter, took a deep breath, and began to read, allowing the letters to slowly paint pictures in my mind, immersing me into a semi-reality.

When the protagonist loses his memories, he finds himself in a disoriented state of existence. To recover his lost identity, he embarks on a journey through semi-real worlds, uncovering secrets and connections he has forgotten. Through letters and encounters with the people he left behind, he strives to piece together his past. In this mosaic-like journey, he discovers not only what he has lost but also what it truly means to remember...

"Is it recording? I suppose it should be recording," said Keith with a half-smile, as an awkward and quiet laugh escaped the lips of the boy standing in the empty room, trying to turn on an old camera that he had been struggling with for over an hour.

'Hey Ethan, unfortunately, if you're watching this, it means I'm no longer with you.'
