When I woke up from the nap, Liam was reading on his bed. I turned to my side and looked opposite where he was sitting.

“You awake?” Liam said.

I flipped over onto my stomach and turned my head to face him.

“Yes, I am,” I said, staring at him as he looked down and read his book. Not many men can pull off the combination of pretty and the combination of handsome, but when I tell you he can, he can. He had glasses on that were round and complimented the sharpness of his face.

He let out an “mmm” to recognize what I said.

I stared at him for a little longer, and then he turned his head and made eye contact with me.

“I think you have a problem with staring,” Liam said, smiling.

—Man, my heart.

“I do, but when you are that good-looking, it's hard not to,” I said, flipping onto my back.

He was silent for a second and let out a low chuckle. It was extremely attractive.

“What time is it?” I asked.

“It's 22:30,” Liam said, still looking at his book.

I shot up and sat on my bed and exclaimed, “And you didn't wake me up!?”

“You looked so tired there, and I bet it was a hard day, so I was just letting you sleep,” Liam said, “And you looked cute while sleeping.”

My heart stopped. Did he say what I thought he said? “Well, do you still want to get going?”

“Are you still up for it?” Liam asked while setting his book down.

“Of course, after that sleep, I am ready to run miles,” I said jokingly.

I got around, grabbed my wallet, and put it in my cross-body fanny pack.

I looked down and realized that my clothing wasn’t exactly “public” appropriate.

Liam leaned against the doorway and waited for me.

“So, what about the clothing?” I asked.

“You'll see, don't worry about it,” Liam said, turning around towards the window. He hopped through it and put his hand out as if we were about a story.

“So, you're going to jump down while holding on to me?” I asked.

“Yeah, why not?” Liam said.

“Because your knees are going to bend backward?” I said as a matter of fact.

“No, they won’t, don't worry,” Liam said.

I shrugged as if he'd probably whip out some powers I did not know and do something extraordinary.

He pulled me in by my waist and lifted me up just a little off the ground. We jumped, and we shot up into the sky. We were so high that I could see the lights of the town and the school. For some reason, I wasn't scared; it was truly an amazing experience.

The “flight” was silent, but I could tell we thoroughly enjoyed and enjoyed the experience.

We got closer to the town and then landed on the hill.

Well, that was something you don't experience every day.

“So, how often do you do this?” I asked.

“As often as I can, most days my dad watches me like a hawk, so it is almost impossible to leave because he is always watching, " Liam said.

I looked at him, and at that moment, I realized that although he may have been the strongest person in that place, he must have felt so alone.

“It must be very lonely, being at the top, I mean,” I stated while looking at the beautiful skyline.

The town's lights looked so gorgeous. It was nearing Christmas time, and the streets from above looked straight out of a Hallmark movie.

I looked back at Liam, and he was staring off into the distance with me. I hope what I said didn't strike a nerve.

We both realized we weren't staring at the town anymore but at each other.

As I stared at him, I realized that he was even more handsome than before, the lights from the town shining on his face.

In that instant, I hugged him; I could see the sorrow on his face.

He hugged me back, a strong masculine hug.

I looked up to his face while in his embrace.

“You may have been alone, but I am here now,” I said.

He gave a weak smile and pulled away.

“Let's not focus on the past. Come on, we came here to see the town,” he said, redirecting what had just happened.

Something clicked in me at that moment as if I snapped out of a trance. Since when did I ever become so connected to someone else so quickly?

He must be hiding something.

“You’re right. Let's head down,” I said as I backed up further. “What am I to do about these clothes though?”

“Tap your chest and think of an outfit to wear.”

I tapped it with an image of an outfit in mind, and it changed instantly.

“Wow, this is some cool technology you guys have.” I started, observing the outfit placed on me.

Liam locked on my body, looking me up and down.

“You look beautiful,” he said.

I rolled my eyes and started walking.

“You gonna come?” I said.

Liam nodded and started walking down the hill with me.

We walked in silence down the hill.

As the town grew closer, the silence between us grew louder.

As we walked through the town in silence, I took in everything. I grew up in a restrictive family that never let me go out.

What felt like two minutes of walking around turned out to be hours. He looked at his watch on his wrist and exclaimed, “Shoot, we need to get back!”

“Why?” I asked. I was still so excited, taking in this town's simplicity.

“It's two in the morning. The guards are doing their rounds to check if the students are still in. They're about to come by our room,” Liam exclaimed.

He grabbed my arm and ran as fast as he could to a hidden place. He tapped my chest to change my clothing to the school uniform, jumped up, and we shot into the sky.

He made a perfect landing on the window sill.

The TV was left on from earlier, thank god. We heard our door code being put in to open as we landed.

We both sat down and “watched” whatever the channel featured, a baking show.

The guards walked in and saw us sitting on the couches.

The first guard looked directly at Liam, “Liam, you know better than to keep up with other students past curfew.”

Liam looked down at his hands and looked back up and started to speak, “I'm so”

I cut him off before he could finish his words.

“Sorry!” I yelled. It was a big room. “At home, I couldn't ever hang out or watch TV that often, so it was my idea to stay up and watch it. Liam only joined because I asked.”

He looked back at me appreciatively.

The second guard looked at me and then back at Liam.”Come on, Liam, let’s go. Your father needs to talk to you.”

His face dropped, he winked at me and murmured something under his breath that I couldn't hear.

Before I could ask him to repeat himself he got up and left with the guards.

As we walked out, he looked back and said, “I will see you soon. Is that okay?”

I nodded as the two massive doors slammed shut. I looked at the time again; it was nearly three in the morning.

I had class tomorrow, so it was time for bed.

I walked to my bed, which was next to Liam's, and wondered what could be going on between him and his father.

There was something up. I closed my eyes and started to doze off.
