(Asher’s POV)
“My word...”
My mother gasped.
“Has he ever been that beautiful?”
She said, and we continued to be in silence again.
Gradually, noise come back filling the hall. People continued to chatter, but I’m sure that the words of smite were lesser than the words of praise to the Baron, may it be his outfit or the different aura that he emitted just now.
When the ceremony started, the main door opened and two figures stepped in. As expected, Louis was the one who escorted Avery into the hall. They both look beautiful, but unfortunately, tonight is the night where they will annul their engagement so wearing that beautiful outfit seemed like a waste.
The ceremony continued on. Why does it feel very long before the moment where they annul their engagement? I couldn’t seem to sit still.
Finally, after some time, they finally declared their annulment and I left the seat to continue with my plan to kill the Baron.
(Cecilia’s POV)
I grasped my hands tightly as I saw the scenes in front of me unfold. Will this really be okay to just easily annul the engagement just to be engaged to me? I just stared at them when they walked to the front of the king.
Also, the Baron looked really different earlier, as if he was a completely different person compared to his usual self. The Baron would usually emit a dark aura, that made even a single light spirit ran away when they see him, that is why even though it is common for people to receive even the smallest blessing from even the most common fairies, Baron Constance had never received any blessings from any fairies.
But, while looking at the earcuffs that the Baron wore, I can feel an immense power from it. Is it by any chance an enchanted item?
While I was busy worrying about these matters, suddenly I felt something prickling my skin.
“Ah! I’m so sorry! I couldn’t see clearly!”
A ginger haired girl was fumbling in front of her as she swung her butter knife. Isn’t that really dangerous?
“Ah! I’m so sorry for my cousin’s fault. She was blind so her eyes didn’t work well.”
A huge guys appeared and wiped my bleeding arm with his handkerchief. I must have been too focused on the ceremony to not feel any pain when the girl accidentally slashed me.
“It must have hurt. Here, a healing potion.”
He handed me a small bottle of lower grade healing potions.
“T-Thank you...” I reluctantly accepted the bottle.
“Again, we were very sorry. You don’t go swinging that knife everywhere. It is dangerous, you know?”
The man scolded her as they went away.
I looked at them strangely.
What was that about earlier?
But thanks to them, I feel less nervous now. I heaved a huge breath and was about to apply the healing potion when Izana appeared beside me. It seems like he enjoyed the human delicacy too much that he forgot that he initially needs to act as my escort.
“Are you hurt?”
He asked, after finishing the last bit of the cake that he took from the buffet table.
“Yeah, a blind person accidentally prickled me, but it’s just a small wound so I will be okay.”
“If you say so.”
Izana said that, but he still healed my wound with his healing magic. I chuckled at him.
“What is it?”
He asked after looking at me laughing at him.
“Nothing. It’s just, you don’t have to waste your mana just to heal a small wound on me.”
I smiled.
“Yeah, that is why I healed you with my healing magic, because my mana reserve is bigger than you think. And you are wrong if you think an Immortal like me would experience a mana depletion just from a simple magic.”
There he goes again, blabbering something that I find hard to understand. Though, I do understand that him blabbering is to calm my nervousness down, as he initially a man with few words, so I’m just going to smile to him.
I hope things go well tonight.
“Whew... that was nerve wrecking.”
Silica sighed in relief. Hans took the knife that was used to cut Cecilia and extracted the blood into a small flask. Then he hit Silica on the head.
“You. That was literally dangerous, you know? If it hits her on the wrong place, what would you do?”
“Hehe… sorry...”
Silica chuckled while Hans shook his head.
“By the way, where is Maria?”
Silica looked around.
“I wonder about that too. She said that she had somewhere to go. Maybe she went to the toilet and got lost? The palace is big anyway.”
They looked at each other and laughed nervously.
(Lancelot’s POV)
“This is troubling...”
I scratched the side of my head. I had continuously studied the floor plan for the entire palace before coming here, yet I am now lost, in an unknown place inside the palace grounds.
Okay, let’s see. Tonight, there will be two groups that clashed; first, the first prince’s assassin group, and second, Avery’s spy group. The first prince’s assassin’s duty is mainly to kill Lancelot and they sent a big number because Lancelot is capable of fighting back. The spy group is tasked to break into the palace’s treasury and steal the secret scroll that will later on be used to put a spell on Cecilia while secretly murder Lancelot because she knew that Lancelot likes to wander around the palace a lot.
In the original plot, after the assassin group had killed Lancelot, they encountered the spy group and they both had a fight. They fight for a long time but in one way or another, the spy group still managed to retrieve the scroll and the assassin group brought back Lancelot’s corpse with them to be a display to other traitors.
Now that we are at the climax for my part, I suddenly felt nervous to be killed. Come on, Yuu. You just died a month ago, dying again won’t matter much to you. And besides, although I looked okay, I know that the healer didn’t heal my wounds and only casted a spell to hide away my injuries, because every time I move, it felt painful at where the slash wounds were. I guess Avery really wanted me to die as I have no more use to her plans.
“Darn, hope I could fight properly like the original Lancelot.”
I leaned against the wall on the outer corridor and lunged a deep breath. I must calm down and push on. My mind is spinning with many dreadful thoughts but I have come this far, so I have to proceed!
