We both took a seat on the blue sofa, and I slid the recommendation letter towards him which had a seal of the empire’s information guild. Honestly, I am creeped out that he knew my name. Has somebody told him? Had the guild told him? Or had he been following me because he knew what I was looking for?
I wouldn’t say it warrants to be followed simply because I’m looking for an herb, but the usage for the herb is many, and usually people that are after the herb aren’t ordinary people. No normal mortal is supposed to know of its existence.
He must have gotten wind of it somehow; I must be more careful. I put on my smile and watch as he reads the contents of the letter and neatly folds it before putting it away.
“Since it was Sir Lion who has sent you, I will cooperate to the fullest” he said. “But we will require your cooperation as well”
I nod. I didn’t expect the help for free, it was better that way. Hopefully it won’t be anything too messy. I have done so once… and it wasn’t pleasant in the least. I shudder at the thought.
“Do not worry Miss Lily, the task we require of you won’t be grotesque. It will be a simple extermination task” He crosses his legs and leans forward. “I hope you can finish this task before the auction, and we will make sure you get priority bidding and the VIP seat”
The offer isn’t bad. Although I am curious what beast I must kill to secure my prize.
“What is the job?” I got straight to the point.
“Now now,” he got up from his seat and walked towards me. “Before we get to that I am curious about something”
He stood just inches away from my face. I gulped hard. Did he figure me out? That’s ridiculous. My disguises are perfect and impossible to see through. I scoot away from him and turn my head to look at him while tilting my head.
“Yes?”
“Why do you need the Isrier flower?”
Damnit. I wanted to avoid this situation. How do I give a reasonable explanation without giving myself away?
