The Adventures of Robert Select

Rivals (Quest for Excalibur, Part 9)

Rivals (Quest for Excalibur, Part 9)

Oct 16, 2024

The soldiers of Edward Smith closely watched Select and his team.
“Damn it,” said Select next to the injured Max.
“We will surely find a way to stop Smith,” Max replied.
Smith smiled with the diary in his hand.
“I did it, just as I promised you, Mr. Boss,” Smith said in a message.
The group advanced, with Select repeatedly scanning the thin pages of the diary for clues.
“Hurry up! My patience has a limit, just like the life of your young friend…”
“Would you really sacrifice a human life for fame and glory?” Select turned angrily.
“I would sacrifice whatever it takes,” Smith replied coldly.
There was a long silence, where Select and Smith looked at each other with hate.
“Well, Excalibur is located inside a temple, deep in the forest… Right there,” Select pointed to a dark cave.
“That is the entrance.”
“I hope this isn’t a trick of yours,” Smith threatened.
They all entered the dark cave, illuminated only by mysteriously lit torches.
“How are these torches lit?” Max wondered.
“No idea.”
Inside, the cave proved to be incredibly vast, and filled with sculptures of knights.
“This temple was created exclusively for Excalibur,” Select marveled.
“Where is Excalibur?” Smith asked Select.
“We will have to investigate.”
Select carefully observed the surroundings until he saw a sculpture of Percival de Carpenter.
“This way.”
All the others followed Select with intrigue, who also looked at the ailing Max.
The statue pointed in a direction, which our hero followed.
“We are close,” Select revealed.
The excitement was making Smith impatient.
“Select, if you deceive us…”
“Not this time.”
They arrived at a sculpture of Merlin, pointing again the way.
“We are almost there.”
Finally, a large sculpture of Merlin had at its feet a long box where a sword would fit perfectly.
“Finally!” Smith exclaimed, pushing Select and Max.
“The sword is mine!”
Being in front of the box, he realized that an object was needed to open it.
“What does this mean?”
“The Diary is the key,” Select revealed from behind Smith.
The latter stepped aside to let the archaeologist pass, who placed the Diary in the slot.
The lock opened, and the box began to slowly reveal its contents.
When it was revealed, an intense fury overtook Smith.
“What the hell does this mean?!” he shouted, furious.
Inside the box there was a map, a map to Camelot.
“The sword never left Camelot… The story is a lie!” exclaimed Select with a smile. “Cadbury Castle… that’s its real location!”
“ENOUGH!!!” exclaimed Smith, pulling out a gun and aiming at Select. “I’m fed up with your games, Select!!!”
“Oh, is little Smithy angry?”
“SHUT UP!!!” he shouted, still aiming at Select. “I’ve gone through a long journey for your stupid jokes!”
“You’re right, that’s enough,” Max jumped in, taking down Smith and disarming him. Select was surprised, Max seemed healed.
Seeing that Select and Max were safe, Kate transformed and started attacking Smith’s soldiers.
“Today is not your lucky day, Smith, this is the third time we’ve escaped from you. Bye!”
Select leaped onto a steep ramp, sliding down as if it were a slide. Max followed behind, along with Kate.
“AFTER THEM!!!” shouted Smith, enraged.
His army began shooting at the three heroes, failing in their attempt.
Exiting the cave, the group looked at each other.
“We have a new chance, guys!”
Back on the boat, Select and Max admired the island as it drifted away.
“Are you okay?” Select asked, concerned.
“Yes, I actually am…” revealed Max.
“How did you heal so quickly?” Kate asked, touching the place where his wound was, now completely healed.
“I really don’t know…” Max said sincerely.
“Weird… Well, now we have to head to Cadbury Castle.”
“Isn’t that where they said Camelot could be?” Kate asked.
“Turns out it is the place after all.”
The boat set course for Great Britain.
