Thanks for stopping by! I hope this story was entertaining.
This is a short “making of” kind of post.
The Magic Forest was “incepted” in 2012, but the original plot was incomplete and there was no definitive conclusion. Sabin was initially just a fairy princess with no relation to the protagonist. She had “interacted” with a human long ago and was cursed to be a prisoner in the magic palace for all eternity. Later revisions included time travel and were cyclical and overwrought, with Sabin and Hagen fighting directly with the Master for the ring. I think this version is the most concise and straightforward.
I’m not planning to write a sequel, though if I were, it’d revolve around Hagen and the magic ring. He’d become accustomed to having his wishes granted and eventually become less innocent--the old “power corrupts” tangent-- and the ring would stop obeying him or leave him altogether. Or it could revolve around a wish that would go against what’s right but would ultimately be for a good cause.
But I’m afraid of it being too moralistic or whatever. My stories are never about morals, lessons or straightforward battles between good and evil. I have sympathy for even the meanest characters. There would be no stories without them!
“The Magic Forest” is the story of a young man named Hagen who wanders into a magical forest in search of treasure. He finds nothing there and comes back empty-handed, thinking he’d fallen for some stupid myth — that is, until he meets a few odd travelers at a local tavern who’re looking for someone to guide them into the woods. They claim there’s a palace there and that the forest is filled with deadly dangers. Hagen doesn’t believe them one bit, but takes them up on their offer—and finds out a lot more about the enchanted woods than he’d bargained for.
