"So let me get this straight. You're telling us that the Alpha of Moon City is your mate?" Izzy asked, looking at me as if I were telling a bad joke. "And you're an Ome—"
"Don't call me that!" I said, pointing at him with a stern tone.
"Lyn." He sighed, running his hand down his face in frustration. "But you are an Ome—"
"I don't need you to keep reminding me!" I snapped. "Gods! Y'know, out of everything I've just told you, is that the only fucking thing you heard me say?! That I'm an Omega?!" I said angrily. "Fine! If you need me to say it again, YES! I'm an Omega." I said, placing my hand over my chest.
"Lyn, calm down, please. He's just surprised, is all. We both are." Jodi said, glancing at Izzy, and he raised his hands in surrender, allowing her to speak.
"How do you think I feel? I've spent most of my life loathing even the thought of being one, and now I find out that it's true." I laughed to myself at the harsh reality. "Now everything I've worked for—"
"No!" Jodi said sternly, cutting me off. "No one is taking anything away from you. This doesn't change anything."
"Yes, it does, Jodi. No one is going to follow me. Not when they find out what I really am." I said in a defeated tone. "I'm putting them in danger by even being here. If Colby found me because of—"
"Well, we're not sending you away, and anyone here who feels that way will have to deal with me." Izzy said, cutting me off with a stern look, folding his arms.
"Us." Jodi added, patting her brother's shoulder in agreement.
"I can't stay here." I said, shaking my head. "I'm not sure how much longer the effects of whatever this spell is will last, and seeing Colby unlocked something else." I shuddered at the terrible memories.
"Who is he, anyway? He said he knew you from your childhood." Jodi said curiously.
".....He used to be my best friend, but then he—I'd rather not talk about that. More importantly, there's the matter of Tsuki." I said, changing the subject.
"Who?" Izzy said with a scrunched-up nose.
"The Alpha. My mate...." I grumbled, putting my face into my hands in embarrassment.
"He's not your mate." Izzy scoffed.
"Yes, he is. My grandmother and the dreams basically confirm it." I said, still covering my face. "Not to mention Senex had the same reaction when he heard his name weeks ago as well.
"Wait, you told Senex, but didn't tell us?" Jodi asked, offended.
"No, he put it together on his own when he told me I was—uh, never mind." I said, trying to change the subject.
"Unh unh, no more secrets. This is going to get too dangerous for us to not be honest with each other. Why did the old man know about Tsuki?" Jodi asked sternly.
I looked at her, embarrassed for a moment, and then took a deep breath. "I was in heat..." I said quietly.
"You wha—?!" Izzy said, scrunching up his face because he didn't hear me clearly.
"When I woke up and wasn't able to cool down, it was because apparently I was in heat." I said, blushing, and they both looked at me, shocked.
"But you said you didn't see who was talking to you in your dreams, right?" Jodi asked.
"Well, yeah, but—"
"So then you don't know if he's really your mate or not." Jodi said, cutting me off.
"Are you trying to say my grandma and Senex are both liars?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at her.
"No, I'm saying your memories are jumbled and your dreams are unclear." She clarified.
"Look, guys. I can understand if you have reservations about him being a wolf from the Luna, but—"
"No, Lyn, that's not it. You know we're not like that." She said defensively.
"Then what is it?" I asked, annoyed. "Because if you're not being racist, what else could it possibly be?!"
"We're your mates!" Izzy spat out in annoyance. "We both shared a dream about you." He motioned his hand towards me.
"Wh-what????" I said, wide-eyed, blinking owlishly at them.
"We had—"
"No, I heard you, but what?!" I said, gripping my scalp tightly, pulling my braided hair unconsciously. "When?! How?! About what?!" I asked, blushing, covering myself as if I were naked, looking between them nervously like they were perverts.
"It wasn't anything like that!" Jodi rushed to say, waving her hands in a defensive motion. "It happened after we found you by the river while you were recovering. It was about our first time meeting you and you agreeing to help us find our mom when we were younger."
"Well that doesn't sound like—"
"So you'd rather it be the Alpha than us?" Izzy asked, clearly offended.
"I'd rather I was still a dormant!!" I said, frustrated by his attitude. "Listen, this is confusing enough for me as it is, okay? I don't know what your dream means, but I know I damn sure ain't your mate. I've never—I mean, you're both very attractive, but—no offense, it's just that—Oh Gods!!" I said, looking at them both apologetically, trying to find the words. Running my hand over my braids, I started pacing the floor as I spoke. "I even don't like women. Jodi, I think you're a beautiful girl, but I could never—y'know—do that with you..." I palmed my face again, blushing fiercely, shaking my head. "This is so awkward... and Izzy, I look at you like a little brother. There's no way in hell I'd, y'know. I'd feel like I was doing something wrong."
"Well, the bond will change that!" He rushed to say.
"No, it won't. Why are you so adamant about this?" I asked with a furrowed brow. "Wait, do you, like me???" I asked, wide-eyed, and he blushed.
"Well, I—I've always thought you were pretty. Even when we were younger." He mumbled, shuffling on his feet.
"OH GODS!!" I groaned into my hands before looking at Jodi. "And you?!"
"Pfft, Hell no!! It was completely one-sided." She scoffed. "I told that idiot to give up a long time ago. To be honest, I feel the same way you feel, and I don't like men." She said with a shrug, earning shocked looks from Izzy and me. "Oh, don't give me that look! You can't really be surprised." She chuckled, but her smile faded when the shock remained on our faces. "Oh Gods. You're surprised? Did I just out myself?" She asked nervously.
Izzy and I looked at each other and then back to her. "No, no! It's cool. We're both cool." We said in unison.
"You're both bad liars." She grumbled with an irritated expression.
"Okay, enough about mates!! This conversation is going to give me an ulcer. We'll know sooner or later anyway. Let's just worry about it then." I said, rubbing my temples.
"What do you mean?" Jodi asked, confused.
"Apparently I have an imprint. According to Grandma, it'll make me sick, especially since we don't know when it happened or how long I've been away from my mate. I've been feeling weird a lot lately, admittedly, but nothing too drastic so far. Just the damned hot flashes." I explained, fanning myself.
"How sick are we talking here?" Izzy asked, concerned.
"I honestly don't know, but I've been having these migraines since I had the dream, and now the hot flashes come sporadically. Hopefully, it doesn't get any worse." I grumbled.
"Well, if it's up to lover boy, you'll be just fine." Jodi teased, patting Izzy on the shoulder.
"Jodi!!" Izzy said sternly.
"Oookay. I'm going to talk to Colby." I said, walking off.
"Why?" They both asked in unison.
"I have this nagging feeling that I can't trust him, and maybe talking to him will help." I said, continuing down the hall. "Be ready to leave when I get back."
"Lyn, we still need to talk about something!" Izzy yelled, causing me to look back.
"Did something else happen?" I asked, concerned.
"No. Well, not yet. What do we do if you, y'know..." He said nervously.
"I'm not following." I said with a blank expression, shaking my head.
"He wants to know what you expect us to do if you go into heat." Jodi clarified, and I turned as red as the sun.
"We are not talking about this!! Didn't you hear what I just said earlier?! If either of you tried to touch me like that, I'd probably throw you off a roof!!" I shouted, grabbing my forehead in exasperation as I walked away.
"You're an idiot," Jodi whispered to Izzy.
"Well, it's going to happen eventually," he whispered back.
"Gods. Have you been thinking about this in your perverted little mind all this time? You really are jumping at the opportunity!" she scoffed.
"No!" Izzy hissed defensively. "But it will happen! What the hell are we supposed to do in a base full of dormants?! Even if we are underground, we don't know how strong his pheromones will be. That Colby guy found us because of Lyn, and he's also an Omega. If he could smell him, every Alpha in a thirty-mile radius will come straight here for him." He gestured around them. "His scent is only getting stronger. I know you can smell it just like I can, even if we are just Betas."
"I can see your point, Izzy, but you know it's a sensitive topic for him right now. Let's just give him some time," Jodi said, trying to be reasonable.
"What if we don't have time?" Izzy argued.
"Well, then you ask him on your own. He ain't kicking my ass because you can't give him time to process. You know he hates Omegas, and now he is one. How do you expect him to react when you bring that up again? I won't be a part of it." She threw her hands in the air before walking off, and Izzy sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Where are you going?!" Izzy shouted.
"To find Senex!" she shouted back.
