I stood outside Colby's cell for a while before calming down enough to go inside. Seeing his face infuriated me on a completely different level. Finally, after subduing my rage, I walked in and threw him a bottle of water that he fumbled to catch. I stared at the dumbfounded look on his face before resting against the wall with my arms folded. I dismissed the guards so they wouldn't overhear our conversation, then turned to scowl at him. I didn't know what I wanted to say first, but there were things I needed to know. I had to make him talk without asking questions directly.
"Drink it," I said with a nod, and he surprisingly complied.
"Thank you for taking me in," he said, looking up at me briefly before looking back at the ground after downing the entire bottle of water.
"I never agreed to take you in. You're a prisoner. Nothing more for now," I said coldly.
"Still," he said with a small smile. "So, I assume you hate me?"
"I didn't even know who you were until an hour ago," I said, maintaining my frown.
"What?" he said, confused.
"Doesn't matter," I said, shaking my head. "Why are you here?"
"I told you why," he said quietly.
"No, you told me how you found me, but why are you here?" I asked, irritated. "What made you come to Luna territory?"
"I'm pregnant, and for ten years, Alec has been unconscious because of the curse. What else was I supposed to do? If he found out that I laid with another Alpha, he'd have me killed," he said, looking at me with glazed eyes.
"Was it by choice?" I asked quietly.
"What?"
"I asked, was it by choice?!" I repeated, a little louder.
"You mean the pregnancy, or laying with the man I love?" he asked.
"Both," I said with a shrug, and he averted his gaze like he was ashamed.
"Yes," he said, and began to cry.
"Well, at least you had a choice," I said bitterly.
"Rose, I—"
"DON'T!" I said, pointing at him. "You don't get to call me that. I've always hated that stupid nickname. I know why everyone called me that, and I'm not some weak flower," I said angrily.
"Roselyn, I didn't know he—"
"Liar!" I scoffed, cutting him off. "I begged you to stop him. Do you remember? I begged you to talk Alec out of doing it, and you turned your back on me!" I said, and he looked at me with pain in his eyes. "He was your mate. He would've listened to you if you had the courage to stand up for me, or at least considered your words."
"He said that he just wanted to talk with you. Why are you so angry?" he said, shaking his head in confusion.
"You can stop acting like you didn't know what my father ordered him to do," I said, and he swallowed, looking at me nervously. "I overheard you talking to your sister that day. You were jealous because Alec had been paying too much attention to me, and rumors were starting about us. You thought that I was trying to take your precious Alpha," I said with a bitter tone. Saying the words actually did make me want to spit.
He shook his head before speaking. The guilt was clear on his face. "I just asked him to talk to you and clear up the rumors. I found out what your father told him to do when it was too late."
"Rumors that he started! Even if you didn't know what father ordered, you knew Alec's intentions were bad. They always were! Do you have any idea what he—" I couldn't finish the sentence when my voice cracked. I took a second to fight back my tears before speaking again. "How could you honestly think I would do that to you?"
"B-but Alec said that—"
"That I liked him?!" I asked incredulously. "This is why I hate Omegas. You believed an Alpha that you'd known for a few weeks over someone you've known your whole life! I hated Alec! I cursed Apollo for every breath that son of a bitch was allowed to take, every second of life he was allowed to live! He tormented me the moment he showed up at our estate," I said angrily.
"You never told me!" he rushed to say.
".....Yes, I did," I said quietly. "You were the one person I thought would believe me, but you just made excuses for him. Father didn't care; hell, he probably made him do all of those things to 'put me in my place.' When he cut my hair, you called it an accident. When he pushed me down the stairs, elbowed me so hard he broke my ribs, and even when he locked me in that burning room full of my mother's things, they were all accidents to you, all because you 'liked' him. So I stopped telling you about the things he did, but he never stopped," I said through clenched teeth and balled-up fists.
"Roselyn, I was a foolish child," he pleaded.
"And you're an even bigger fool as an adult if you came here seeking my help!" I spat at him.
"You wouldn't understand! We grew up in two different worlds! You had no shortage of Alphas lining up to meet you. You know what it's like for unmated Omegas. He was an Alpha that was supposed to be for me, and even still, he was yours from the start. I was a jealous idiot back then, but I didn't know he would—"
"Just stop! I didn't want Alec, or any other Alpha that showed up with proposals for me!" I said, and he seemed shocked. "I wasn't some piece of meat to be sold to the highest bidder at my father's leisure! I had already chosen someone that I liked!" I said, pointing at myself.
"W-what? Who? You hated every Alpha around the estate. That's why whenever I saw you with Alec, I thought—" He stopped mid-sentence, shaking his head before looking at me. "Who?"
"The only person that treated me with real kindness. Someone who saw more than an Omega, or a way to gain power and position. I even thought he liked me at one point, but I was naive," I said, shaking my head.
"Th-that boy from the Luna? Is that why you were so upset when his engagement was announced?" he asked, shocked.
When he said that, another wave of memories washed over me, along with the pain. "So that was the other trigger," I thought to myself. Between Alec's constant torment and the heartbreak of Tsuki's engagement, that must've triggered the spell. Once he gave me the information I needed, my demeanor went back to normal.
"Roselyn, was it that boy from the Luna? Is he the reason you ran away?" he asked persistently.
"I ran away because I tried to kill Alec," I said monotonously, and he flinched as I walked toward him. "You stink just like him, you know."
"Wh-What?" he said nervously. "How would you know what he smells like? You're a dormant."
"Gods, Omegas really can be stupid, or is it just you?" I asked, annoyed. "You said you found me because of my scent. Why do you think that is?"
"I—I," he stuttered, trying to find his words.
"I'll tell you why. It's because the 'curse' Alec was under was a spell cast by me. It caused me to lose my memories, and I somehow sealed away a part of myself when I tried to seal Alec, making me a dormant. However, it's slowly being undone, and my memories are coming back as the spell weakens. You've helped me fill in some of the blanks. I didn't know Alec was still alive, but I know if you're here, he must not be far behind. I also know my father told everyone I died when I ran away to cover up what he'd done to me and what I'd done to Alec," I said coldly, and he looked afraid. "An Omega with magic is unheard of, after all. How long have you been working with my father?"
"I—I don't know what you're talking about," he said, trembling.
Senex had come into the holding cells as we were talking. "I've completed the testing, lad. He's definitely pregnant," he said, handing me the results.
"Thank you, Senex. I'll be out in a minute," I said, and he nodded before looking at Colby with an ominous gaze.
"It must really suck that even after being asleep for ten years, the first thing the mate you were promised thinks of is me when he wakes up. Did he bite you out of pity, or did you nag him?" I asked, running my hand over the freshly scabbed wound on his neck, to which he recoiled and tried to cover it up. "You know it's not a real mark, don't you?"
"What???" he said in disbelief, his eyes wide.
"They don't teach Omegas this back home for a reason," I chuckled. "Real marks glow, like magic, not bleed like they're infected. You should see one; it's really beautiful. You're lucky he didn't rip your throat out. Don't worry, I'm sure he'll finish the job when he gets here," I said, smiling as I turned to leave.
"Roselyn, wait! I'm pregnant. I—I didn't lie about that. Even the old man just confirmed it," he said, nervously crawling toward me.
"Oh, right!" I said, putting a finger in the air with a snap. "Is it Alec's?" I asked, and he stiffened.
"N-no, I told you—"
"That it was some other man's. Yes, I heard you, but the fake bite wouldn't carry his horrible-smelling pheromones. So it must be the pup. It's Alec's, right?" I said, looking at his stomach.
"What are you going to do to us?" he asked, terrified, clutching his stomach.
"I'm not going to do anything," I said, walking back over to him and leaning close to his ear. "You're going to have a miscarriage," I said with a sinister smile, leaning back to see the expression of horror on his face. "The water bottle you guzzled down earlier was spiked with a small dose of suppressant," I said, and his eyes went wide with shock. "You'll have failed at keeping me here and lost his pup. All your value will be gone, and we both know Alec has a temper."
"Y-you're a monster," he said, and I grabbed his face tightly with one hand, looking into his eyes.
"I'm a monster? I'm a monster?!" I said, not believing he had the audacity to say that to me. "You sat in the hallway and listened. Don't deny it, because I smelled you then just as I do now: the scent of lavender mixed with rotting meat. You don't have the right to call me a monster," I said, throwing his face away from me. I stopped just before leaving through the door, looking at his trembling body on the ground. "When Alec gets here, we'll be gone, and your pup will be dead. Take my advice and stop being his pawn. It's pathetic, and if I'm going to be an Omega, I don't want people getting the wrong idea about us from people like you. Oh, and make sure to tell them they didn't break me. I'll be fighting back, and this time, I'm not alone."
After that, I left to tell Senex, Izzy, and Jodi what was really going on. I don't know what Alec or my father has been planning, but I had a plan of my own.
