He waited as the phone rang on the other end; the anticipation made his lip bleed from biting on it so hard. It was starting to get hard for him to breathe, and he began to feel something was very wrong. Dylan was good at answering calls no matter who it was, so Rulan needed to answer.
Grabbing his things, he walked out of his room, slid into his shoes, and shot out to his father, who was watching TV. "Father, I'm on my way out to meet up with Dylan!" He said, running out before the confused parent could say anything. The worried male called Jinx and then Susie to see if they had heard anything from Dylan when he arrived at the house. None of them said they had seen him yet and told Rulan not to worry as Dylan might have overslept or been busy with something.
Maybe they were right, and he was just clinging again. The thought got him to slow his steps until he smelled something off in the air. He glanced down and saw blood on the ground; the smell of it stung his nose. Rulan bent down and touched the blood with his finger. "Blood? Why would there be blood here??" He wondered until something in his conscience told him it was his friend. "Dylan?" He said, glancing at a familiar-looking bookbag sticking out of the bushes. He walked over to it and pulled it out. Pulling out, he began rummaging through to double-check that this was Dylan’s, and once he got that confirmation, his heart began to race.
“D-Dylan!” He called out, holding on to the bookbag tight, then smelled it. The scent was faint but still there. He followed the smell down the street until he found himself in the woods. The falling leaves crunched under his feet. The neighborhood and woods were so quiet that he could hear his heartbeat.
"AH!" He heard a groan and laughing from a distance, "You had the nerve to think you can beat me, D?" He heard a thud as he ran over to the sounds of talking, and once, he was there, halted, almost making him fall only to see Dylan on his knees grunting and spitting up blood before getting his hair pulled back. Rulan was about to run out and call out his name again; he saw a silver item beaming from the moon's light and connecting Dylan's stomach, making him fall into the pool of his blood.
The smell of blood tinged the scared boy's nose to the point he wanted to puke and was startled by the sight. He tried to say his dear friend's name, but only a shaky squeak came out, making the others glance at him.
"Uh, oh, look what we got here." One of them mocked, and the ringleader came out from behind them with the knife. "How long have you been there, Ratface?" Brick said, showing himself. The boy couldn't even move when Brick came close, between Dylan and Rulan, pointing the knife near his face. He wasn't even paying attention to what he was saying as he was busy glancing at Dylan's barely moving body, who spoke just loud enough to get Brick's attention. "B-Brick! Leave him alone!" He growled and coughed.
"Are you fucking kidding me? You're still not dead yet?" He said, turning around, then waved one of his minions to finish him off, and they began to kick him in the stomach repeatedly. The sounds of him suffering and the voices around began to fade, turned black, then red. "Leave him alone…." He finally said, his voice sounding demonic, which got Brick's attention, and he glanced over to Rulan, "What did you say Ratfa-!" ready to tease him though stopped. Rulan's face was twisted with anger; his eyes became a piercing yellow that glowed behind the dark contacts he had and showed large, sharp fangs as he growled at Brick.
"What the hell?!" Brick’s eyes widen in fright at what he has seen. "Don't look scared now. After what you have done, you will have your judgment." He said and grabbed Brick by the throat, lifting him from his feet and making him gasp for air. The others fell in shock and screamed. Brick was startled, scared, at what he saw as he heard the boy growl once more under his breath as he got closer to the other, which led the knife to pierce his stomach just enough to draw blood.
Rulan began to crush the boy's neck slowly. He watched as tears and blood ran down his face. "You will die for the act-" He continued before stopping when he heard a small voice.
"R…. Ru don't... He's not…. worth the time..." Dylan said, struggling to say the words as his vision blurred. Ru stared at the male before him, slowly suffocating by his hands before letting him go.
Once he dropped him, Rulan stared at the frightened males and said, "I don't ever want to see you three again. Next time, I won't be so forgiving. " with that, he walked over to Dylan; they nodded, and ran off after helping their ringleader up.
"Come on, Dylan, stay with me, ok. " He said, patting the injured boy’s head softly, "I'm going to call the hospital," he said as he called the emergency line.
