The room was cold and white. It was quiet other than the beeping of machinery in the hospital room. Slowly, Dylan opened his eyes and began sitting up from his bed with a groan and winch at the pain he felt on his side. Feeling the movement woke Rulan up from his slumber, and he put a hand on Dylan's shoulders. "Ah, Dylan!" He said excitedly, standing up, and began pushing him back down. "No, don't get up just yet. " Dylan was lying down, though not without watching his friend almost move away from his touch.
Seeing this made Rulan's eyes frown, knowing he must have remembered what happened. "Did I hurt you?" He asked not to bring it up. He was back to normal and had glasses on. "Hey, um, I brought you some sandwiches." He added. Dylan only stared for some time before finally saying something. "Don't worry about it; it was just the pain, and I didn't know you were here, so you startled me. "He chuckled after seeing the frown on his face, then added. "Sure, I'm pretty hungry."
The room was quiet once more as he ate his sandwich, and once he finished, he tapped his fingers before saying. "Thanks for jumping in when you did. If you didn't, I probably wouldn't be here."
"Of course, you help me, so why wouldn't I?" He added, "I'm shocked that Brick went as far as he did, but hopefully, he got whatever was troubling him out of his system." Rulan said with a chuckle, to which Dylan chuckled as well. "You’re making it seem like a regular thing, like a tantrum. "He raised a brow amusingly to keep the conversation light until the nurse checked his vitals and said he had more visitors.
Of course, he told her they could come in and then returned to Rulan. "Oh, Ru, sorry for ruining your first dance and Halloween. "He laughed, "Ah... don't worry about it. I wasn't worried since I didn't want to go anyway." Rulan said, brushing it off.
"Welp, I got to make it up to you somehow as Halloween is still going. The ball is out of the list now as it is over." He said, then added. "So, what would you like-" Dylan began to ask before Rulan interrupted by kissing him and said. "How about a movie….," Rulan made sure he was loud enough for him to hear him, and before Dylan could respond with such a shocked face that made his face turn blushed, maybe the most color he ever had.
Their family and friends busted into the room in cries of worry or excitement that the boys were right. Dylan's father held his son tightly to the where he could only let out a dry chuckle while Jinx and Susie hugged them in a group hug. The last to come in the room was Kiro; Ru's father stared at him and ruffled his hair with a smile before glancing over to Dylan, who could finally breathe from his father's strength. The larger male punched the boy in the arm half-jokingly as he said. "For a human, you've been causing a lot of trouble for my kid."
Later that night, everyone had left; it was late, and visiting hours were over. Dylan held Ru in his arms as they cuddled in the hospital bed; they convinced the nurse to let him stay for the night as they watched whatever cheesy scary movies and some classics were on TV.
“Hey Ru, I have a question.” Dylan began glancing down at him, having their eyes meet for the first time tonight. “What is it?” Ru’s eyebrow raised, curious about what he had to say. Do you want to go out? Like a date?”
Rulan stared at him for a bit, then answered. “I thought that what this what we are doing now?” He said. “No, it’s not a date unless someone says it’s a date; right now, we're having a bro night.” He began as a joke now, then added as if he was thinking about what to say next. “But unless you want to make this into a date, we make it into one….not the best place, but it’s better than out bleeding in the woods.” He said it with a chuckle, making Rulan chuckle a bit. “Wow,” he said, then smiled. “OK, I would love to go out with you.”
“Happy Halloween. ” They said in unison as they nuzzled each other’s noses.
