He stood up and closed his book, walking to the wagon, he had bathed a bit ago, worry overcoming him of the sleeping maid. She seemed well enough given her wounds, which he had checked a bit ago. Her blonde hair was littered across the small pillow. He usually slept in the back of the wagon under the cover, especially in the winter months as the rain season came about.
He had already set himself a spot near a tree a few feet away, using a coat as a makeshift pillow, having given it to Allie. He grew concerned if someone might be after her. It was a truth that even noble families and wicked ones would not abuse the staff, unless they were indentured servants or slaves. If she was one of those two, especially the latter, then it was more than likely the family had already enlisted the help of a bounty hunter to find her.
Noah lit the lamp attached to the wagon once more, before walking to Sara to give a few pats. She was an old horse, he spoke to her quietly so as not to wake Allie.
“My Princess Sara, I shall buy you carrots in Kowa, how would you like that, hmm?”
“I know you would as you are so greedy. I have spoiled you too much.”
He chuckled quietly.
“Goodnight, Sara.”
He gave her one last pet before walking to his makeshift bed and sitting down to his book for a bit in the light of the lamp, listening to the sounds of crickets, signaling the arrival of spring.
