Ch. 16 the commanders pitch

Ch. 16 the commanders pitch

Dec 22, 2024

The Oval Office was unusually quiet, a stark contrast to its typical buzz of activity. Gathered around the grand desk, President Trump’s cabinet members sat in silence, exchanging uncertain glances. Today’s topic wasn’t just another policy meeting. This was something much more—something that could reshape the government, the military, and maybe the entire world.

President Trump stood before them, his signature smirk firmly in place, his posture radiating confidence. He looked at each face around the room, sensing their unease, but he wasn’t worried. He thrived on doubt—on skepticism. And by the time he finished speaking, he was confident they would be on board.

"Alright, folks," Trump began, his voice strong and deliberate, "I know what you’re thinking. Why are we here today? What’s this all about? You’ve heard bits and pieces, but I’m gonna lay it all out for you. This is something huge. Very big. And trust me, once you hear the whole plan, you’re gonna love it."

The cabinet members shifted in their seats, some exchanging nervous looks, others crossing their arms. The Defense Secretary, in particular, leaned forward, brow furrowed. This wasn’t a normal meeting, and everyone knew it.

Trump placed both hands on the Resolute Desk and leaned forward, his eyes gleaming with a mixture of excitement and impatience.

"I’m talking about super soldiers," he said, pausing for dramatic effect. "Real, flesh-and-blood American heroes. Enhanced. Better. Stronger. Faster than anything you’ve ever seen before. The best of the best. And we’ve already got them."

A ripple of discomfort passed through the room. Super soldiers? That wasn’t just military talk; it was the stuff of science fiction.

"Mr. President," the Secretary of Defense spoke up, his voice firm but measured, "with all due respect, this sounds... unorthodox. What are you proposing here? We have strict protocols, international laws, and—"

"Protocols? Laws?" Trump cut him off, waving his hand dismissively. "Let me tell you something: those protocols, those laws—they were written for yesterday’s wars. But we’re not fighting yesterday’s wars anymore, are we? We’re in a new era. Terrorists, rogue states, cyber warfare—everything’s different now. And guess what? We need to be ahead of the curve."

Trump straightened up, pacing as he spoke, gesturing with his hands like a master salesman.

"You think China and Russia are playing by the rules? No. They’re already developing enhanced soldiers, and they’re doing it under the radar. They don’t care about international law. They don’t care about protocols. They’re laughing at us because we’re too slow, too afraid to take the next step."

Trump paused again, letting his words hang in the air. He could feel the resistance softening, but there were still skeptics in the room. He knew he had to go bigger.

"Here’s the thing," he continued, "we’ve already done it. We’ve got them. Right now. A few of the finest, working covertly, taking down terrorist cells across the globe. Off the books, obviously. We’re keeping it quiet for now, but the results are unbelievable. These guys are taking out threats we didn’t even know existed. All it takes is one mission, and they’re done. No more drawn-out wars. No more endless deployments."

The room fell silent as Trump’s words settled in. He glanced at his Chief of Staff, who sat with arms folded, his face a mask of uncertainty.

"I know what you’re all thinking," Trump said, raising a hand as if to stop their inner protests. "You’re thinking about the risks. About the optics. But let me ask you this: do you want to wake up one day and find out that some rogue nation or terrorist group has figured this out before us? Because if we sit around and do nothing, that’s exactly what’s gonna happen."

Trump stepped back toward his desk, placing his hands firmly on it again. His voice dropped lower, more serious now.

"We have the chance to control the future," he said, his tone almost conspiratorial. "We’re talking about covert operations, with the world’s most powerful soldiers at our disposal. No one even needs to know. We keep it quiet, we control the narrative, and we use these super soldiers to protect America—and to make sure we’re always ten steps ahead of everyone else."

The Secretary of State, who had been quiet until now, cleared her throat. "Mr. President, if this were to come to light, there would be backlash. The public wouldn’t—"

"Backlash?" Trump interrupted, smiling confidently. "I know backlash. I’ve dealt with it my whole life. This isn’t about backlash. This is about staying alive. Keeping this country on top. And when people see what we’ve got—what these soldiers can do? They’ll thank us."

He paused, locking eyes with each person in the room. "We’re not asking for permission. We’re making sure that America stays in control. Forever. We don’t need approval from anyone. We just need to do it."

The room was quiet again. Slowly, the skepticism on the faces of his cabinet members began to fade, replaced with something more dangerous—interest.

Trump sensed the shift, and he pressed his advantage.

"We don’t have time to debate this," he said firmly. "We’ve already started, and it’s working. We’ve got terrorists running scared. We’ve got enemies scrambling to figure out what hit them. And we’ve got the most advanced, most American soldiers the world has ever seen, out there, doing what needs to be done."

The Secretary of Defense leaned back in his chair, exhaling slowly. "And the rest of the military?" he asked. "How do they fit into this?"

Trump smiled, the expression cold and calculating. "They don’t need to know. This stays quiet, off the books, until we’re ready to show the world. By then, we’ll have all the leverage we need. And trust me—when they see what we’ve got, they won’t be asking questions."

The room fell silent again, but the atmosphere had changed. Slowly, heads began to nod. Faces that had been filled with doubt were now marked with cautious acceptance.

Trump’s grin widened. He knew he had them.

"This is how we win," he said, his voice smooth, persuasive. "This is how we stay on top. You’re either with me, or you’re stuck in the past. And believe me—you don’t want to be on the wrong side of history."

One by one, the cabinet members exchanged glances. It was risky, yes. But the vision Trump had painted was compelling. Too compelling to ignore. Finally, the Secretary of Defense gave a slow nod.

"Alright, Mr. President," he said quietly. "Let’s get ahead of this."

Trump’s grin widened, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction. He had won them over.

"Good," he said, leaning back in his chair. "Now let’s get to work."
