Echoes of Your Heart

Echoes of Your Heart

Oct 21, 2024

"Welcome to the center of Campanella, otherwise known as 'Blue Campanella' - a center for all kinds of entertainment, shopping venues, and just about anything your mind is able to put out. Before leaving the house, I made sure I had money, so we do have a few things we could do prior to visiting the Archiver."

Liora had a smile on her face as she grabbed you around places. It seemed like something she didn't get to do often. You wondered, did she lack friends? Did she rarely go outside? There were very few things on your mind, but for whatever reason, the most meaningless things stuck around the most.

"I've never asked any other about the attire I wear. Does this seem good to you?" Liora slowly walked out of the dressing room. You witness the sight of a majestic white dress with pearls attached to the ends, a massive white straw hat with a flower poking out of the top, and pointy blue heels.

"Are you getting married?"

That's your response. Really?

"How do you prefer coffee? I usually pick coffee as is, with sweeteners or sugars added, the original taste intended is mostly gone. All the effort in selecting the right coffee beans, the roasting, and the specific brew method - all thrown out of the window by the facade of sugar!"

You stared at Liora while she continued to speak about the intricacies of coffee. You didn't particularly understand her motivations or interests at all. 'I poured a good bit of sugar into mine," you say as you interrupt her speech with a straight face.

As bland as you are, you pick sweeteners over her approach.

"This is my one favored performance. In the stage, the woman plays as a widow looking for meaning in her life, the man on the opposite end plays as a war soldier who eventually becomes her husband, and the other man in a black shirt and pants currently stabbing him is the supposed villain of the story. However, as the royalty looks into the case, they quickly come to the realization that the black shirt and pants man was paid off by the woman! Enchanting twist!"

You stood confused as you watched the play finish. Liora looked at you with plenty of excitement in her face.

"So what's with the twist? Life insurance fraud?"

Life insurance fraud? What are you saying? Does that even exist in Campanella?

After having spent several hours in the center of Blue Campanella with Liora, getting new clothes, trying out coffee, and having watched a play. You come to realize, your social battery is running out. "I've been enjoying everything, but can we learn about me? I think that's probably what we should've done first."

"I- Correct. You are correct. I believe it's time that we pay a visit to the Archiver. It was... quite entertaining, going around Blue Campanella, and showing you a portion of the things around here. I do have one thing to show you before we head there."

Liora grabbed a white tulip and placed it in the left lapel of your suit. It wasn't a significant change to your appearance, but it did add a feel that was missing. A little bit of love.

She then pointed her finger toward a massive piece of architecture.

"Galleria Speranza, in the blue alley. That's where we'll encounter the Archiver and discover more about your past."

This whole time you wondered what the Archiver's place would look like, but from the outside it looked like a typical shopping mall. Both of you head inside Galleria Speranza, it looked way better from the inside.

Stunning marble flooring embellished with mosaics of important figures, a massive glass dome hanging from the central atrium allowing natural light to form inside, and highly spacious areas unparalleled to any other place you've seen before. That's what Galleria Speranza was.

"Each year during this time couples would bring their partners to Galleria Speranza and confess eternity to them. Upon kissing, both would sign a contract of eternity between one another, all couples who signed would then dance in the middle of red alley and be blessed by the divinity."

The entrance of Galleria Speranza would be in the second floor above the red alley, you could see couples showing all kinds of emotions. You looked at Liora as she attempted to hold her tears back, you wondered why, but you didn't ask.

"Where is the Archiver's place?"

You knew in your heart that maybe there was something better to ask, but you didn't know what. Liora wiped off a tear before facing you, "Oh. Yeah, the blue alley. The Archiver is in the blue alley, that's where we'll find him. And find out about your past."

At the end of the second floor, there was an entrance which appeared to be for the blue alley. Liora walked slightly faster than you, but you made nothing of it. "Before we head inside. Are you sure about this?"

You suddenly felt a weird tingle within you. Why would she ask that? Why would she even bring you here and suddenly ask that? You didn't understand the concern and you had nothing to lose from finding out more about who you were.

"There's nothing else for me to do here. I have no one in my life, I have nothing in my life. I-"

Liora headed inside the blue alley before you could finish your speech about nothingness. There was nothing else you could do, other than follow inside. But when you walked inside, you thought it would be just like the rest of the Galleria. But it wasn't, it was unusual.

Your vision suddenly turned monochrome. You didn't have to breathe, you didn't feel thirst, or hunger to begin with. It was as if you walked into a different dimension, a massive book shelf towered around the alley, posters were flipped in all kinds of positions, and yet the books inside the shelf above and around you stood completely still as if they were ignoring gravity.

"This is the effect of the Archiver. Whenever you walk into the blue alley, the needs of the human body are erased, but as a trade-off, your vision becomes monochromatic."

Suddenly, a tall figure appeared in front of you two. He wore a suit with a flower as decor, accompanied by a face mask that obscured his face, long shoes, and not to forget a massive top hat. "Are you? The Archiver?" you question his identity as he stares at you without a word.

"She is Camilla. She is wondering if the Archiver can search for a record regarding her past," Liora quickly spoke out for you, knowing that it was your first time in this place. But there was no response.

Or that's what you believed. The Archiver immediately disappeared as an arrow pointed toward a glowing book in a shelf toward your left. He did not utter a single word or even make any specific gestures, it was as if he was a part of the blue alley as an entity instead of a living being.

You quickly rushed toward the glowing book and began reading it. Hours passed by and not a single person had entered the blue alley, Liora simply waited on a chair next to you. You kept reading and reading.

"What? This book has nothing to do with me."

Liora looked toward you in disbelief. "I am afraid that's not possible. The archiver cannot document anything that isn't factual," she quickly grabbed the book from you and skimmed through the pages double checking your statement.

"I don't see a single thing that pertains to you. But if the Archiver said this book was in relation to you, then it must be. There is no doubt about it."

Both of you stared at each other in confusion, in the middle of this monochromatic void called the blue alley. Liora went to the last page of the book, none of the books had labels or names as to what they were, only the Archiver could find a specific book.

"This book is called... Chroma Vile? What does that mean?"
