Waking up early, he took out his book, which after a long consideration, decided to call it The Compendium, and went to the quest page. However, before he checked the daily quest, he realized another page had been added.
<Special Quest: Suspicions
Description: You notice something is wrong with Joana from work. You decide to figure out the cause of it all.
Deadline: 3 Days
Reward: ???>
When he saw the quest, he was initially surprised. Was such a thing possible? Could he just add special quests whenever? However, it seemed this was just a special case. When he looked at the deadline though, he frowned. Why would this have a deadline? 'Could it be something that will happen to her in 3 days?' When this thought sprouted, Jake's anxiety grew. Something bad could be happening to her right now and he would never know. Gritting his teeth, his eyes became firm.
Turning the page, he looked at the next page turning golden. It once again gave him a wheel ticket. Letting it burn, the wheel appeared in front of him. 'This time, I can't think of anything as silly as peeping tools, just give me something to help Joana.' Crossing his fingers, he hoped to get something good from the wheel. Finally, it stopped on a yellow tile. It collapsed once again, and a new page appeared.
<Congrats! You have obtained the Tracking Compass!
Item: Tracking Compass
When bound to a target, it can lead you straight to them.
This is a one-time-use object.
Duration is 24 hours.>
Looking at the object, Jake smiled. 'It seems the Compendium is also wanting to help Joana. For two years, Jake has worked at the gas station. It wasn't the best money, but he could go in there after school and get all of his homework and even sometimes play games as the customers weren't many. During the school year, when his shift was ending, Joana was willing to teach him a few things when he didn't understand a topic.
Although she seemed like the party type, she was a very smart girl which led to Jake's respect and interest in her. Now that she seemed to be in trouble, he felt like someone was attacking his family. With this tracking compass and his Omniscient Eye, he had no doubt he could figure out the root cause of it all.
Ripping the page, he watched as the compass appeared in his hand. It was small, only half the size of his palm, but it had a purple shine as the spinner spun slowly in a circle. Putting it in his pocket, he took a look at his next quest.
<Daily Quest: Slashing for a thousand miles.
Description: Using any kind of sword-shaped object, slash a thousand times.
Miles Ran: 0 / 1000
Reward: Low Combat Skill>
Looking at the quest, he was shocked. He thought he would be stuck doing conventional exercises, but now he was doing something as crazy as slashing with a sword! When his eyes fell on the reward though, all of his doubts went away. 'A combat skill!' He had no idea what a combat skill was but considering he was slashing a thousand times, he figured it might be a sword skill. 'Holy crap, I had no idea I could learn fighting techniques through this.' It makes sense in the present, but he hadn't even thought about skills like that.
He was a little embarrassed for wanting a peeping tool. He decided to wait to start it, so he got dressed and said goodbye to his parents. He didn't need to tell him he wasn't going to school today as in the last few days, the schools don't care if you are there or not.
Outside, he took the compass out. 'How do I work this?' Thinking about his Omninecet Eye skill, he visualized Joana in his head and when he opened his eyes, he saw the compass stop moving, and point down the street. When he saw that it was connected, Jake was astonished. 'Does this mean, if I think of any celebrity I can find them?' Thinking about that, Jake's breath heated up before he shook his head. He first had to deal with this problem before he thought of anything else. Walking down the street, he quickly arrived at the gas station. He never really came in the morning so he was interested to see who was at the counter.
When he saw who it was, he stiffly smiled. Old Bern sat there with the newspaper in hand, and a cigar poking out of his mouth. Making sure Old Bern didn't see him out the window, Jake walked out the back side of the building. In the back was where Old Bern and Joana lived. The place was a small house only consisting of a single story. When Jake went to the back, he saw the compass move to his right, indicating that she was probably in there. Jake gulped before, apologizing in his head as he detached his third eye and took a peep. It took a little bit of guesswork and exploration but he soon found a clean room with a sleeping girl on the bed.
It was Joana who was knocked out on her bed. Jake couldn't help but stifle a laugh as she had a big bunny onesie on. He looked around the room and was shocked. It was very clean and didn't have much within. There was a desk, a makeup area, a bookshelf, and a plant. Nothing hung on the wall, and nothing was on the ground.
Shaking the many thoughts out of his head, he quickly left in case someone were to see him being a creep. Which actually wouldn't be far off from the truth. Even Jake was aware of that himself. Now that he had confirmed it was connected, Jake walked down the street with his phone in hand.
He had the location of a gym on it. This was his goal, he wanted to get a membership and start his stat multiplier. He chose this particular gym even though it was a little far because it had a free week trial, meaning he didn't have to pay for it at all!
After about ten minutes he finally arrived. Walking in, he immediately felt like he had walked into a foreign land. It wasn't a big place, and it was somewhat empty due to the early morning, but it was still intimidating. Walking up the front counter, a middle-aged man sat there reading a book.
Jake stood there for about a minute, and the man hadn't said a word. Feeling embarrassed, he coughed lightly. It was finally then that the guy noticed Jake. "Whatcha want kid?" He had a deep voice as he growled at Jake. Jake was already nervous because it was his first time in a while, but seeing the man looking at him, he finally got a good look at him. He had a tank top on that showed his shredded arms. They weren't big, just extremely muscular. The man was going for a lean build.
"I-I uh want a free trial." The more he spoke, the quieter Jake became. He started to regret his decision. Couldn't he just do it all at home? Why did he have to go to the gym? The man looked at him up and down and didn't say anything. All he did was slide a clipboard over to Jake. "Complete the paperwork and I will give you a card to the door, that code will only be usable for the first week, to gain access again come back here and pay for the full thing."
Seeing that the man didn't seem interested in him, Jake sighed. Grabbing the clipboard, he put in all of the information that was needed. After the man looked it over, he gave Jake a card, and pointed to the door, "Just swipe it and walk in." Jake nodded and walked over to the door leading to the main area. With a swipe, the door unlocked and Jake stepped in. Immediately, the smell of the gym invaded his nostrils. He cringed a little before looking to his left where the locker rooms were. He had brought a small bag with him which held some headphones and a change of clothes. In the bathroom, he changed quickly and put his stuff in a locker.
Summoning the Compendium, he looked at a page. It was the page on which the Stat multiplier was displayed. He ripped the page, and it burned into ashes, and a new thing appeared in his hands. It was a small flask, about the size of a finger. Jake had a weird expression as he saw the orange drink in his hand. "Hopefully this isn't some poison that kills me." Closing his eyes, he calmed his heart and chugged the glass. When the glass emptied it disappeared like the paper. It was sweet like honey as it heated his body. It only lasted a minute though as he went back to normal. Now that he was finally ready, he exited the locker room.
