"What am I supposed to do?" This was the problem on his mind right now. He already figured out the situation, but there was nothing he could do. "How long has she had to endure this for?" This was another pain point for Jake as he couldn't imagine having to deal with that stress every day. Although he was laughed at a little for being chubby, it was nothing compared to what he saw with Joana.
As he sat on a bench, a guy sat beside him and looked forward with a smile. Jake, who had his concentration broken, looked at the guy before seeing where he was looking. In front of him were the three girls who had harassed Joana, they walked away slowly as if wanting people to look at them.
"Do you know those girls?" Jake couldn't help but ask as the man was infatuated with them. Looking at Jake, he had a bright smile, "Hehe, I knew you were someone like me. A man with a great eye for beauties." Hearing this, Jake didn't say anything, but in his heart, he sneered, 'Beauties? They are wolves in sheep's clothing.' "Yeah, they are indeed pretty, are they popular around here?" The more information he got the better.
"You don't know them?" The man looked shocked as he stared at Jake. Jake could only shake his head, "I will be a freshman next year so I have no idea about these kinds of things." Hearing this, the man nodded his head in understanding. "I see, I see. Well then, let me warn you, you don't wanna get involved with them." The man looked serious as he stared at Jake. "Why's that? Are they that famous?"
Nodding, before shaking his head he sighed, "It's complicated, that woman in the middle," He pointed to the redhead in the middle, who was the leader of the group and the main attribute to the harassment, "She is the leader of the Purple Foxes, the most popular sorority group on campus." Memorizing the name, Jake nodded, he had heard of sorority groups before in movies but didn't think they were a real thing. "What makes them so popular?"
The man looked serious as he explained, "Well, get this, that leader, Catherine Grey, is dating the leader of the Omega Squad, the most popular frat group." Even frat's existed! That was Jake's first thought as he listened in. "But that's not what makes her scary, that leader of the Omega Squad is a famous actor that goes by the name of Lewis Sprigg. His influence is great, and his bank is deep, it is rumored that he has connections with gangs."
Hearing this, Jake frowned. He had no idea what his combat ability would grow to, but it would never be able to surpass a gang! "Are there even gangs around here?" Jake seemed confused, as he knew his city was pretty clean and well-off, so there had never been gang activity reported in the area. The man only shook his head, "It's said that although there isn't a huge underground scene in the city, they are connected to the powerful underground scene of Yulosburg in the north." Jake knew of Yulosburg, it was one of the major cities of Minnesota, also only an hour away from his location.
"Anyway, that's why I will never have a chance with one of the Purple Foxes, their background is too fierce!" Laying on the back of the bench the man sighed. Jake only stayed silent though as he got up. "Thanks for the help, what's your name? I will have to buy you a snack the next time I see you." Jake smiled at the guy, not only were they once in the same mind, but he had helped Jake tremendously.
"Herald, a rising sophomore in the engineering department. If you are around there, just say my name and you can come to see me." Jake nodded and remembered his name as he walked off. Although there weren't many plans in his mind right now, he still wanted to look up to his enemy.
…
Returning home, Jake got on his computer and looked up Lewis Sprigg's. He was surprised to learn he had got a big acting role in a TV series this year. He tried to look up his connection to gangs, but of course, nothing came about. He then wanted to look into the two groups Herald had mentioned and he found something. It seems each college group has its little website for recruiting and getting events together. "Should I try to join the Omega Squad?"
Looking at the application button, Jake was hesitant. If he joined and got in, he could get a lot more info on the Purple Foxes, and thus on Joana's situation, but he felt that he would be in the lion's den. For now, Jake clicked off and rubbed his head. He felt like he had gotten in over his head with this case. "Ahhh I can't think!" With so much information, Jake felt like he was a bundle of TNT about to explode.
Opening up his book, he saw his daily quest and sighed, "It seems I can let out a little bit of steam." He decided to make progress on his quest. Going out the backdoor, he looked at their small yard and picked up a random branch lying on the ground. It was a little crooked, but it was about a meter wide, so Jake figured this would do.
Holding the stick in hand, and getting a firm stance, he slashed the stick up and down. After what seemed like forever, he was panting heavily. "Holy crap, this is harder than I imagined." He felt that he was gonna drop the stick if he swung it another time. Looking at his quest status, his eyes bulged. "I only did 150!? I still have so much left to do!"
Throwing the stick onto the ground, Jake sighed in exasperation. In only an hour or two he would have to go back to work, so he wanted to get this done as soon as possible.
…
Leaving his house, Jake sighed. He was able to finally finish his quest, but he could barely feel anything in his arms, as his swinging took too much out of him. "I wonder if I will even be able to open the register." With silent tears coming down his face, he entered the store.
