Jake didn't waste time when he woke up. Immediately going to his Compendium, he wanted to get his rewards.
<Daily Quest: Slashing for a thousand miles. [COMPLETE]
Description: Using any kind of sword-shaped object, slash a thousand times.
Miles Ran: 1000 / 1000
Reward: Low Combat Skill>
In an instant, the page became a golden sheen, and in its place was a bottle of bright light. It looked like a firefly as it flew inside the bottle. Jake had a weird expression as he thought, "Why does the book have a weird fascination with bottles?" Not thinking much about it, he opened it up. Not having time to react, the light jumped out of the bottle and flew right into his head. All Jake felt was dazed before a rush of memories entered his head.
On a mountain, an old man stood. Jake watched as the old man had a sword in hand, and slashed forward. It wasn't a single slash, it was three slashes in total, and with each move, the old man would move forward, with the final slash being a downward cut. Jake watched in shock as when the sword hit the ground a crack a couple feet wide formed.
After it ended, Jake had the feeling that he could replay that memory in his head again with ease. "Is this what my new skill is capable of!" Jake felt excited as he saw two red bookmarks form in his book. Flipping to the first one, it was the skill section. Reading his skill, he was excited.
<Technique Skill: First Form of the Gale Storm Sword
Description: A set of movements that when paired with a sword can make even a ground quake.
Cost: No cost, but you have to learn this skill yourself.>
Looking at the name, a fire erupted within Jake's heart. Gale Storm technique! It sounds so awesome! And it was only the first of many forms it seemed! What would happen if he gained the full technique? Would he be able to slash mountains or destroy buildings? Just the thought of it all made Jake excited.
He was confused though about the cost. It seemed it was different compared to the Omniscient Eye, as seen by the classification. It seemed technique skills like this aren't just instantly used but learned over time. Although Jake felt a little disgruntled, it was nice to see that the skill didn't have a mental cost. That would make it easier to fight using his eyes on the back of his head technique.
Jake also noticed that the red bookmark that was on the top of the page was gone. "Is it some kind of notification system?" Turning the page to the next bookmark, he watched as it also disappeared into smoke. He was surprised to see that it was the shop page. It seemed another item was added.
<Shop
SP: 0
Wheel Spin: 1 Wheel Ticket or 500 Shop Points
Second Form of the Gale Storm Sword: 2,500 Shop Points>
Jake looked at the new item in shock. "The second form!" Jake was indeed a little worried he would end up never getting the second form, but to his relief, he was able to buy it here. "How do I get these shop points though?" This was a major concern for him. He had never gotten a single shop point, let alone 2,500. He could only hope it comes in the quests soon.
Speaking of quests, he turned back to the quests tab and checked his new daily quest.
<Daily Quest: The First Step to Mt. Everest.
Description: Run on an incline for six miles.
Miles Ran: 0 / 6
Reward: Wheel Ticket>
Who wants to run up Mt. Everest? Jake felt like cursing the book. When he said he wanted to climb Mt. Everest? Grumbling to himself, he hoped that the stair climber treadmills at the gym would count. Cause if he had to climb a mountain… Thinking of it, Jake's face became pale.
With that on his mind though, he got ready and ate a quick meal before heading to the gym. He remembered Chad's words from yesterday and hoped the surprise Chad would give him would make his day. Although he was curious what a guy like him would want to give him on their second meeting. He knew that the LGBTQ community was growing so maybe… Shaking his head, Jake prayed that Chad was not part of the community, he didn't wanna know the definition of a bear…
…
Ten minutes passed as he finally got to the gym. The lean guy at the door was still the same, and remembering his code, Jake was able to get in easily. He had already spotted Chad, but he wanted to change first. After a few minutes, he came out and saw Chad waiting for him.
"What's up, bro!" With a firm handshake, Jake once again felt small, but a surprise was waiting for him as Chad pulled him forward, and patted his back with a laugh. Although it was scary for Jake, he recognized this kind of handshake as a bro handshake that gym bros do.
"Ah, good morning Chad." Jake laughed awkwardly as the two separated, Jake already felt Chad's sweat on his chest and it made him extremely uncomfortable. "How are you doing man? Are you sore at all? How was yesterday's workout I gave you?" Chad laughed as he started talking. Jake responded in kind and told Chad what he thought. After expressing that he was excited it worked, he took out a piece of paper.
"Of course, I didn't forget the gift I wanted to give you." handing over the paper, it was two papers stapled together. "I'll be honest, I am kind of a gym nut. Even though I have an office job, I can never stop the thrill of working out and helping others at the gym. So, as a hobby, I met new people with their routines and diets. I found yours especially interesting because of your unique goals. That made me want to make one just for you, so I wrote down everything I found and compiled a little routine for you." Jake was extremely surprised as he looked at the embarrassed Chad. Reading through the papers, Jake was even more shocked. It explained in detail, what a swordsman should be working towards, what exercises to do, and why they are good. Even on the second page, it listed out a perfect diet with nutritious but also yummy dinner plans.
"This…" Jake was more than shocked, he couldn't believe it. "I-I can't accept this, this is too detailed. Don't you want something in return like money or something?" Something this detailed must've taken hours of research to accumulate, it was most surprising that he was able to do it in one day. 'Is my friendship with Chad my real superpower?' Jake couldn't help but have doubts about his Compendium.
"No no no, this is all something I wanted to do. It didn't take as long as you think. I am already extremely well versed in dieting stuff so that was pretty easy, and once I knew what muscles a swordsman should train it was pretty easy from there." Chad laughed as if it was simple, but it was clear that the knowledge Chad had was accumulated over many years of training and researching.
"Still though, your knowledge is extremely valuable, don't you want something in return? With this insight, you could become a world-renowned trainer." Jake didn't care about how Chad felt as he continually said his praises. Jake tried searching for swordsman training regiments but even in this vast age of the internet, he could never find something as detailed as this.
"Haha, I've thought about training. But I don't mind the job I have now, and I even get to see her… Anyway, I don't need compensation, just being able to see your work using it and seeing the results is enough for me to be satisfied." Hearing Chad's words, Jake couldn't help but have a single word repeat in his head, "Teacher!" realizing he said it out loud, Jake didn't care as he expressed his gratitude towards Chad. "Teacher Chad, I will not let you see a failure, I will show you the strongest swordsman you have ever seen." With Chad's extreme charisma and his determination to help others in the gym, Jake felt a tremendous power of motivation as he felt the urge to start right now.
"Hahaha, that's what I like to see bro! Now get out there and show me what you got!" laughing, Chad smacked Jake back, but only after a momentary shaking, Jake nodded and ran off to the stair climber.
"So, that's the kid you were telling me about earlier?" A tanned man walked up to Chad as he looked at Jake. "Yeah, he's the one, I gave him the routine, just now, it seemed like he was willing to take on the world!" With a laugh, Chad held his hips. "Well, let's hope that's true. Every other kid who you tried to train quit because your stuff was too tough. I don't get how you can still have the motivation to help these people." The tan guy sighed as he looked at Chad who had a smile on his face. He lost count of how many times he saw this scene play out, but in the end, no one came back after a week.
"It's just because they always want the most efficient way, but the most efficient way is always the hardest. You can never have results without hard work after all. Plus, this time seems different. This kid… I can't explain it, but he has a light no others had before. Like a purpose…" The tanned man rolled his eyes, "A purpose? Don't they all have purposes?" Chad shook his head, "Sure, but they are all surface level, his, however, seems much more ingrained."
