"Test subject fifty-seven is in room thirteen. You can find the room down a couple of hallways," the woman explained.
Damn it! Why the hell did it have to be so complicated? Aster thought while pressing his hand against his face. "Alright, lady, you told me you wanted to sit in that chair way over there," he claimed, pointing in the direction he wanted her to go.
"I guess I did say that," the woman said, thinking about it momentarily. She wandered over and sat in the chair like he had asked of her.
Trust me, I learned after our prison escape. I don't need to hear any more alarms go off, Aster briefly thought. He reached down, placing the straps on her wrists to keep her from causing any trouble when he deactivated his ability. His hand dug into her pocket, pulling out the silver key she had used to unlock his ceil.
"Alright, things should be pretty safe now," Aster mumbled to himself as he snapped his fingers.
The woman's head slumped forward, her eyes returning back to their original color. She lifted her up and stared at him in bewilderment. "The hell did you do!" she screeched, trying to break loose of the restraints.
"Sorry, lady, no time to explain. I'm getting out of this shitty faculty before things get a whole lot worse. Also, be sure to keep that seat warm for Lucas. Okay," Aster said smugly before he took off running.
The woman's screaming died down the further he sprinted down the hallway he entered. Aster glanced up at the room numbers he was passing by. Damn, I'm still only near room five. Null, you better be alright, he thought while chewing on the inside of his cheek.
Aster sucked in a breath when he nearly tripped over his own two feet when a door burst open in front of him.
A man walked out of the room and turned his head to look at Aster. Panic washed over his face as he dove backward. His shaky hand descended downward toward the radio attached to his right hip.
"Oh, no, you don't!" Aster barked and lunged forward. He kicked the man's radio right out of his hand, causing it to fly through the air and crash against the wall. The device shattered into a million pieces that decorated the floor tiles below.
The man let out a terrified scream. He tried to step back, only to tumble backward and fall on his butt. He quickly raised his arms up to shield himself from whatever Aster planned on doing to him. "Please spare me; I only bring materials here, nothing more. I won't tell anyone you escaped," the man pleaded with tears welling up in his tears.
Aster rolled his eyes and gripped the front of the man's shirt, yanking him forward. "I won't do anything, but only if you tell me how to reach room thirteen faster. Otherwise, we're going to have a problem," he threatened as he narrowed his eyes.
"U-um...there's a..." the man stuttered as fear ripped up his nerves.
"Spit it out already! I already said I wouldn't do anything to you!" Aster repeated, gradually becoming more irritated with each passing second.
The man swallowed hard. A small bead of sweat rolled down the side of his cheek. "There's an air vent in the room I came out of. If you take that, you should easily be able to make it to room thirteen without running into anyone," the man blurted out. Relief washed over him when Aster finally released him.
I don't have time to use my ability on him. But my gut is telling me he won't say anything or set off an alarm, so it should be fine to just leave him here, Aster thought. He looked over at the man one more time before entering the room.
Aster glanced up when he saw a black vent close to the ceiling. I guess he wasn't lying after all, he thought. He lept on top of the desk closet to it. He jumped up and reached inside the vent; using all his strength, he dragged himself up into it.
Aster crawled through the vent, using his arms and legs to push him through. He glanced down at the rooms below when he passed over a screen. In each room, he saw people working on different experiments and taking notes of the information they were able to obtain.
"Any minute now, come on, where are you, Null?" Aster grumbled quietly to himself. He paused and peered through the screen below him, which was closest to the end of the vent.
Aster's eyes widened in shock when he saw Null unconscious, strapped with multiple chains to a table to keep him from trying to escape. He watched a woman move closer to Null and was about to place a needle in his arm.
Aster ground his teeth. Without any hesitation, he slammed his fist into the screen, causing it to clatter to the ground below. "Like hell, I'm going to let you do anything else to him!" he growled. He pushed himself out of the vent and swiftly landed on his feet.
The woman quickly clutched onto her radio and brought it up to her lips. "Crap! Test subject fifty-six has escaped! Bring reinforcements!" the woman cried into the device.
"Call your damn reinforcements!" Aster roared. He quickly ran over to Null and started undoing the chains. His breath hitched when he heard the door leading to the room get kicked open. With shaky hands, he undid the last chain before someone yanked him backward, pulling him into a chokehold. "Wake up, Null!" Aster screamed as he struggled to break loose.
A soft chuckle left Null's lips. "Took you long enough to get here. I was getting a slight bit worried you forgot about me," he claimed with a grin as he sat up.
Fear painted itself on the woman's face. She quickly ducked to the floor, causing Aster to raise an eyebrow in confusion about why she was freaking out so much.
"Damn it! Test subject fifty-seven is mobile," a man shouted out in a panicked voice.
Null cracked his neck to the side, releasing the tension in his muscles. "I didn't appreciate all those experiments you assholes did on me," he declared with a wild look in his eyes. He extended his hand out toward them, causing them to tremble in fear.
Aster was about to open his mouth before bullets flew out of Null's body. They raced through the air toward their targets. He froze when small droplets of blood landed on his cheek when a bullet dug into the man's arm who was holding him hostage. Without wasting a second, Aster elbowed the man in the stomach.
Aster ignored the cries of pain from the men behind them and sprinted over to Null. "Now, I see why they locked you up," he pointed out after seeing the destructive nature of Null's ability.
"What are you waiting for? Let's get out of this dump," Null mentioned, his lips curving into a grin. He pushed himself off the bed and onto his feet.
A look of surprise appeared on Aster's face when Null seemed perfectly fine and wasn't dizzy in the slightest. "You're terrifying, just so you know," he mentioned before he ran toward the exit with Null following after him.
"I'll take that as a compliment, and you're still pretty useless if you ask me," Null mocked in a teasing tone, causing a deep frown to crawl onto Aster's face.
Once the door was open, they bolted down the hallway. Null glanced up when a bunch of men with weapons in their hands tried to block their path. Aster was about to slow down before Null yelled at him, "Leave this to me!' he shouted with a grin.
A gun crawled out of each of Null's palms. He gripped onto the handles and took aim.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Null carefully aimed at each of their legs, causing all the men to stumble to the ground, opening up a path for them.
Aster's eyes widened when a familiar man stepped into the path ahead of them, causing his jaw to tighten in anger.
"I'm not letting perfect test subjects like you escape!" Lucas roared as he aimed a gun at them.
"Like hell, we're sticking around, you damn psycho," Aster barked. He twisted his body to dodge the bullets Lucas fired. He dove forward, closing the distance between them. He used his left leg to propel himself into the air and struck Lucas in the face with his knee, sending the man to the ground.
An amused chuckle escaped Null's throat. "Should've hit him harder," he stated as the two of them ran out of the exit.
After running for a while, Aster paused. He sucked in shallow breaths as he struggled to catch his breath. "Looks like we're a safe distance from the place," he mentioned, looking over at Null.
Null took in a deep inhale, enjoying the fresh air. "That's true, but you do realize we're on another planet we're not familiar with. Also, we don't have any money either to get around," he pointed out, only to raise an eyebrow when Aster had a smug grin on his lips. "What?" he asked out in confusion.
"How's this for being useless," Aster declared, pulling out a wallet loaded with cash in it. "I couldn't resist snatching Lucas's wallet on the way out. I guess he was useful for something after all," he stated, waving it around.
"Alright, I'll give you the win on this one, but you're still useless," Null teased with a smile.
The two of them walked into the distance toward a hotel to rest after everything they had gone through for the last couple of days.
