Chapter 17: Like A T-Rex

"I have to say they do look pretty convincing," Lucian admitted while closely inspecting the fangs that Elias had passed over to him at every angle, amazed at how lifelike they appeared.

"I have to admit, Elias. You really outdid yourself yet again. I can't even tell they're fake. But, I shouldn't praise you anymore since I already tell it's going to your head," Brax pointed out, already seeing Elias's eyes sparkling with joy since Brax wasn't the type to hand out compliments all the time.

"Aww, you're too kind; I made them, actually," Elias revealed while rubbing the back of his neck. "All it took was a little bit of mana and creativity," Elias gloated with pride.

"Seriously?" Brax claimed with raised eyebrows having a difficult time believing that Elias was even remotely capable of doing something like that besides just absorbing Lucian's praises like a damn sponge.

"You're terrible, Brax; why can't you be a bit nicer like Lucian to me?" Elias stated while fake sniffling to guilt trip him.

Brax resisted the strong urge to roll his eyes. "Alright, I'll play along. So, why didn't you tell us sooner about this skill of yours? Come to think of it, I could've had that model I always wanted as a child," he declared, grasping Lucian's interest.

"Now, this I'd like to hear. What could you, of all people, possibly want when you're finicky about literally everything," Lucian asked with curiosity, eating away at him, eagerly awaiting Brax's response.

"It's pretty damn obvious you, of all people, should know, Lucian; I probably told you a dozen times about it," Brax stressed. He placed his palms out in front of him. He then moved them apart from each other in a horizontal motion to make what he was saying even more dramatic.

"You said a lot of things back then, so I'm having a bit of trouble remembering. Why don't you refresh my memory," Lucian claimed with a smile, already knowing that what Brax was about to say was going to be ridiculous.

"It was a damn model of a dinosaur; why are you acting like you don't know what I'm talking about?" Brax clenched his fists, not believing that Lucian was making him spell it out. "Also, it wasn't just any dinosaur," he claimed while closing his eyes and holding his chin in the palm of his hand.

"Go on, tell me, which?" Lucian encouraged Brax to continue, his lips trembling since he was trying his hardest not to burst out laughing.

"A T. rex because they're badass because if you think about it, they're at the top of the food chain," Brax stated while waving his hands around like a T. rex would.

"If I had a model like that, I would make it my mascot that I would place on my dresser to remind me how good I'm getting as a priest. So good that I'll probably exceed you, Lucian," Brax boasted with a smug grin on his lips.

Unable to hold it in any longer, Lucian knelt his upper body over while clutching his stomach, unable to contain his laughter any longer. "I should be the one getting a gift like that because I'm already there. I hate to burst your bubble, Brax, but you still have a ways to go if you want to be at my level," Lucian playfully teased to make Brax's blood boil.

"Like you know a damn thing. Just you watch; I'm going to leave you in awe at my skills that it'll render you speechless," Brax declared. He clenched his right fist, shaking it when Lucian only laughed harder at his absurd remark.

Lucian's laughter gradually died down. "Oh, it's already leaving me speechless, and you haven't even started yet. Bravo," he exclaimed, clapping his hands to make it extra dramatic.

"I'll have you know..." Brax started before he began screaming at Lucian.

Lucian muted out Brax's yelling and screaming for a moment while smiling. He watched as Elias tried to calm down Brax, only to fail, resulting in Lucian chuckling.

Lucian secretly knew that despite Brax claiming that he was better in every way, he knew that Brax looked up to him but was too prideful to admit to it.

Lucian finally spoke up, causing Brax to pause in his temper tantrum. "Now, let's change and get going. We goofed around long enough. It's time to get serious now. We have some important business to attend to," Lucian seriously stated before walking off to change into the disguise Elias had given them.

Once Lucian and Brax had changed, and before bidding them farewell, Elias said with a smile, "Best of luck, Brax and Lucian, with your mission. I know you both won't disappoint me."

"Oh, and today, I'll be the one driving us because we're going to ride in style," Brax smugly declared while trotting forward since he wanted to show off the brand-new shiny sports car from the hefty allowance he had received from the government.

"The chariot awaits; let me introduce you to my pride and joy," Brax proudly announced as he jangled the car keys in front of Lucian's face before clicking on the alarm, causing it to come alive.

"Oh yeah, they're never going to see us coming in a hot rod like that," Lucian pointed out sarcastically before rolling his eyes.

Being a priest for the Order of the Cross came with its perks. It paid well since the government donated loads of cash to support the effort to eradicate bad vampires from the city.

But it was a gold mine for a reason. Being a priest was a dangerous job that hardly anyone wanted to do since there was a high chance of dying. On top of that, not just anyone could become a priest since they had to be chosen by the goddess regardless of how badly they wanted to.

"You're just too stubborn to admit that you're excited to be able to ride in it. You know you want to," Brax insisted. "You can't tell me she's not beautiful?" Brax announced with his ears perked, waiting for Lucian's praise.

"I'm the stubborn one? Also, what do you mean 'she?'" Lucian stated with a raised eyebrow before he looked at Brax in disbelief.

"Yes, she!" Brax asserted. "I named her Angel; I think that's a pretty fitting name if you ask me. I mean, just listen to that purr," Brax gloated, clearly satisfied with his purchase and nickname.

"If you want my honest opinion, I think you need something else to keep you busy. You've become too attached to this thing, but whatever you say," Lucian said with a shrug of his shoulders.

"You don't know what you're talking about. Angel is the only thing I need in this world. You would understand my point better if you got a fancy car, too. I mean, why wouldn't you? You rake in a truckload of dough for being at the level you're at. You should live a little for once in your life. I mean, you never know when it might be our last," Brax suggested.

"I prefer to spend my money more wisely rather than waste it on things I don't need," Lucian stated before shutting his car door.

"Suit yourself; you don't know what you're missing out on," Brax confidently said before clicking on his seat belt.

"Besides, I'd rather have something far less flashy since I would rather not stand out. It's not smart with all the vampire gangs crawling around the city. With the way Rossen is, Angel probably won't be in pristine condition for long," Lucian pointed out before fastening his seat belt.

"Ugh, don't be such a worrywart. I've got eyes in the back of my head. Trust me, nothing gets past me on my watch," Brax declared without an ounce of worry.

"Whatever you say, but don't say I didn't warn you," Lucian skeptically brought up while leaning his head against the headrest of his seat.

"Before we go in there, Lucian, I wanted your opinion on the serious persona I'm going to use for my disguise. In case things should be bad, I at least want to be able to intimidate the vamps to make them second guess whatever they could be planning, which could buy us precious time," Brax honestly stated with a hint of worry in his tone over the possibility that things could go terribly wrong.

"Alright, fine, let's see it. Give me your best shot, and I'll tell you," Lucian encouraged while letting his face rest in his hand.

"Ok, hold on, here goes," Brax said before furrowing his eyebrows and giving Lucian the most piercing glare he could muster. "You've messed with the wrong guy; you and all your vampire friends are gonna regret picking a fight with me," Brax declared in a confident tone.

"Hmm, you know what? You're about as terrifying as..." Lucian said while holding his chin in his hand. He leaned a bit closer to get a good look at Brax, trying his best to hold it in order to leave Brax in suspense.

"What? I won't know unless you tell me?" Brax asked, curious about what Lucian was about to say next.

"A chihuahua dressed up as a vampire. Sorry, I can't unsee it now, hahaha; whenever I see you, that's what I'm going to think of," Lucian teased.

"Man, you're annoying as ever," Brax grumbled before driving off.

"Settle down, I'm only kidding. You honestly had me shaking. Just try to sound less robotic and more natural if you actually wind up in a situation and confront a vampire in a life-or-death situation," Lucian advised.
