Ishakura: A Timeless Legacy

Chapter 15: Damn You Zamir!

Chapter 15: Damn You Zamir!

Oct 24, 2024

Lizen zips through the veil instantly noticing an issue. It was quiet and he was alone. He walks in a circle for a moment before coming to a simple conclusion, he was sent to the future and everyone was already ahead of him… Pretty dumb theory and thankfully it dissolved as quickly as it had formed. “If im not in the future than the only other possibility is that im not with everyone. Damn you Zamir!” Lizen jumps up and begins walking down the winding path.  The dungeon’s eerieness is disrupted by the occasional tapping of a water droplet and the ambiance of Lizens boots clacking against the stone floor. Now that he thinks about it his boots also come in more handy than he had initially thought since each step splashes some sort of mystery liquid from some random puddle. It’s awfully damp here and the constant water droplets are surely not helping. If not for his clothing he would also be freezing here. “Maybe I do have the heart of an adventurer, seems like im a natural at these things.”

Lizen’s pride is soon overshadowed by the emptiness surrounding him. He cant help but ponder to himself, How could Zamir forget such a crucial piece of information? How are we supposed to find eachother now? After such embarrassment you still couldn’t find a way to be useful you creep.

“All of the information he gave me was built around being a team but…” He looks around peering into the darkness that surrounds him, “Looks like that's a done deal– ugh, why do I even bother with plans, they never do me any good!” In a moment of boneheaded recklessness, Lizen leaps into the air and teleports ahead, every fork in the road is a coin toss to him, left, right, left, left, right, he continues on picking paths at random until he finds himself in a room with five paths.

Why put five paths if I’m not meant to go through them all.

He slowly inspects the other rooms, taking mental note on the best direction, “Ah, so many to choose from,” He places a finger on his head while forcing himself to think, “Innie, minnie, minie, moe.” He points to each corridor before teleporting through one at random. After some time he teleports back out spinning on his heel. A scream escapes him as he teleports down another path. On his tail is a swarm of werebats, large grotesque creatures with nothing more than the thought of food on their minds.

Lizen stops in his track as he slams his feet into the stone wall before teleporting into the middle of the swarm. He repeatedly dances from wall to wall swinging his sword with proper display, each cleave finding it’s mark through them. His breaths soon grew labored as he continues without end, “Is as if they’re multiplying.”

A werebat claws at his backpack lifting him from the ground as several others surge to him. Lizen quickly drops from his backpack and flips back. He then makes a mad dash through several corridors ending up in a room with one path. He zips through and as he twists through the passageway it gets unbearably tighter, his body bumps and scratches against the wall before he shoots out of the end falling onto the ground.

Lizen stares back into the shadows as the werebat’s screeching grows closer. He understands he cant allow for them to enter the room and looks around in a panic. His eyes land on a soft blue hue that emanates from a Mana gem, highly reactive ores that can pack one hell of a punch.

He teleports to one just as a werebat enters the room and enfuses it with mana. Sparks surround the gem and as a werebat prepares to crunch his neck, he punches the gem down its throat and kicks it into the air where it explodes creating a cave in. Luckily Lizen has taleported from that room and rises in another. “Whoo! YEAH!” Lizen screams to the sky as he runs around in a circle and leaps into the sky.

He takes a few steps before a tongue shoot from the darkness and grabs hold of his leg. “What the– Oh come on!” The tongue lifts him into the air with a scream and slams him into the ceiling, then the wall, before tossing him into the door. Lizen quickly rises before another tongue shoots off from a different direction. He sidesteps the attack as another one appears. One after thew other tongues shoot forth but each time Lizen uses his acrobatic capabilities to swiftly sidestep and flip past them.

“This is disgusting, what are these things.” Lizen cries. Just then a giant bullfrog leps from overhead and attempt to gobble him whole. He flips back avoiding it, however; another tongue shoots forth sticking to his arm. Lizen wraps the tongue around his arm and yanks it toward him slamming the frog into another. How the hell do I get out of here? Lizen thinks to himself. It seems the bullfrogs are more coordinated than initially assumed so lizen moves continuously. He examines the room thinking of multiple possibilities for escape. Eventually his eyes fall short of the large door at the end of the room and much to his avail he notices a key lock on it.

“Oh I see, I just gotta cut you freaks up until I get my key huh, well bring it!” Lizen draws his sword with his right hand in a reverse edge, flipping it to a traditional hold. A purple glint shines from the blade and a violet mist danced around the sword for only, but a moment. He teleports from Bullfrog to bullfrog in a frenzy dividing each one with a single cut. He bounces off their fat boddies and continues to dance around them. Although nobody is around, it seems he can still show off to himself. Just as he settles the room shakes. It begins with a low rumble slowling reving itself with a huge croak and ribbit. from behind a frog slams into the ground toppoling multiple bullfrogs in a tsunami like wave. Lizen flips his body as a massive tongue strikes the ground ahead of him destroying the rock below him. He teleports out of harms way but the massive bullfrog continues its assault as multiple tongues shoot at him. He slices through the air, snipping two of the several however, one manages to grip his leg and drag him through the air slamming him into the ceiling. His body rattles as it he reagains his equilibrium.

The impact was like being hit by a truck. Filled with one thousand larger trucks. Lizen screams with agony as pain swells in his body, he did not expect for the impact to feel as intimidating. His mind becomes jangled as he is dropped onto the unforgiving ground. He rises with a sick groan before noticing the golden glow from it’s belly. “That must be where the key is,” He grips his sword tightly, “Come on you slimy freak!” With renewed vigor, Lizen disappears, reappearing infront of the frog. Several tongues shoot towards him but none can connect. He befins to move swiftly contorting his body in unconventional ways as a means of mobility. He flips in the air before landing on the frogs head. Raising his sword overhead he slashes the frogs thick hide barely cutting through.

A long croak left it’s body and the area tremmored with great force. A tongue slaps Lizen from the top of the frog and once again entangles him. He slides through and this time teleports from wall to wall. He continues to move like a torrent refusing to stop as he swings his blade with one large arc dividing the giant bullfrog’s stomach.

It falls over crashing into other frogs nearby. Lizen plops over wiping the sweat from his brow as he lays on his back. The battle seemed over until the body of the large frog writhes and shakes. It’s mouth gappes and hundreds of frogs shoot forth.

“Damn it Zamir–” He cries as he is overcame by the frogs filling the room. With a croak and ribbit Lizen’s muffled scream becomes no more and silence once again fills the labyrinth. Croaks fill the air and a sea of frogs shoot through the labrinth door, one frog in particular holds Lizen in it’s mouth while another holds his sword. The moment is tense and awkward. “Hey,” Lizen starts, “Can you uh, hand me my sword?”

“Ribbit (No)”

“Wha- WWhat do you mean no you slime pimple body built–

“Ribbit (Censored for reasons I cannot say).”

“Dont you call me that! Frog legs dont sound too bad for dinner!”

“Ribbit, croak! (bite me bastard!)”

Lizen screams his head off as him and the frog continuously shout at one another. Their rage mirrors one another, it entertains them for the time being, Lizen has never spoken to a frog before and though rude, it was one hell of an experience.
