Ishakura: A Timeless Legacy

Chapter 19: The Cold Truth of Command

Chapter 19: The Cold Truth of Command

Oct 24, 2024

While those around can't ignore Kata's arrogance, they appreciate his effective tactics and finally, after what felt like an eternity, the last of the statues crumble. The realization that they were surrounded by an unseen threat sent shivers down their spines, "I didn’t want to die!" a girl cries as she tightly held onto her friends. The cavern rejoices as the doors swing open pouring out with students. Kata surveys the aftermath, “Only a few were injured but that didn't matter,” he smirks as he reveles in his perceived superiority.

He laughs, rustling his hands through his hair, “We're so getting through this dungeon!”

“You're a bigger fool than I thought.” Jayne shouted. “Are all humans as defective as you or are you some special case of dumbass?”

Kata cracks his neck just to look at her, he sees her speak yet his eyes can't believe what his ears have heard. “You damn elf, I’ve let you off the hook several times because you're a princess of another kingdom, yet timelessly you test me!” Flame engulfs his body as he continues to rise in temperature. “Come then daughter of Latius, test me once more!”

Jayne holds out her axe and slams it to the ground, shattering it into a pair of axes. “If you're as weak as your perceptive abilities then you will surely lose.”

Sean watches as frost and fire clash against one another forcing them to overtake the area.

“You got some bark, I'll give you that; however, can you properly fight, princess?” Kata rushes her and continues to do so. His skills with the blade up until this far have only been matched by those in the upper class, but against a daughter of Latius, nobody could have expected such an outcome.

“Your reckless behavior will never earn you the right to king, you are abrasive, rude, and unreliable as a leader!” She brings her axes down around his blade holding it in place, she pulls him closer to her face, “Mayne you're the false royal.” Jayne kicks him away, raising her guard.

Kata rises with a new found intensity. He summons in Hino-Ko-Ki in his right hand as a ball of flame forms in the other. “What did you just call me?”

“You heard me, false royal, you don't deserve to wear a crown.” Jayne slams her Axes together before aiming it at Kata. She welcomes the challenge and wants nothing more than to prove herself to him, not in the way one would seek approval but, to crush any hope of the opposing party. She was excited for the battle, something Kata had not counted on. In his defence a battlehungry elf wwasn’t very “Elf–like”.

“How dare you! what do you know of Royalty, you share your title with six others who are far superior to you!” Kaya shouts as his flame grows past him. Jayne seems startled by the outburst, a bead of sweat drips down her face despite the cool atmosphere. She shakes her head before preparing to engage, however, Kata continues,“Don't think I haven't heard elf, you aren't even considered royalty to them, you're nothing more than a black sheep, a scapegoat of all of this goes wrong. I mean– Why are you even here, in Aisenhower– In Zenith and not Latius. Your family doesn't want you, you're a damn disappointment!” Kaya erupts into a rising flame shooting forth all his charges mana at Jayne who retaliates with a torrent of her own.

The group began running in a chaotic stampede, their screams echoing throughout the chamber.

“Not again, no, no, no, I cant die here!” A student cries. Terror befalls them once again as fire flows throughout the dungeon quickly overtaken by the arctic frost that sent chillies to their blazing cores. This battle stood as a testament, not just a simple rivalry between two students, instead, it was the fate of the future, two royal children from different houses compete against one another determined to show how their wway is right. This was more than just Kata vs Jayne, It is Latius Vs. Aisenhower.

Sean and his party run away from the commotion along with those who were smart enough. The dungeons entirety shook and parts were forced into ruin. it continues to shake until peace suddenly befalls them. Covered in debris students pull themselves up with cries of pain.

“What the heck was that?” someone frantically asks. Another calls for the name of their friends. It felt like the aftermath of a war, dust clouds Sean's vision and his ears are still slightly ringing. “It feels as if I was just hit by a bomb.” Sean jolts up looking around as he quickly picks himself up, “Jjibrall, anyone!”

“We're right here Sean no need to yell,”

Sean falls over in a relief but the night is still far from being over. snowflakes fell from the sky slowly drifting to areas outside the room. “Snow, but, from where?” Sean asks. People begin racing from the broke. area to the heart of it all: Jayne and Kata. People are curious to see the outcome of the match and Sean would be lying if he said he wasn't. He lifts himself from the debris and pushes forward. He arrives at the heart of the battlefield where a crater now belongs. Students already stare in awe as screams leave their hurt bodies.

“H-how is that even possible,” one student chimes.

sean squeezes by him, “how's what possible–” shock runs through his body as he realizes why what they see is breath taking. Both combatants were awake, no knockouts and no damage was done to the other– at least physically. A Brandygalds proudest asset, the part of them that makes them who they are is their flame. All of the a destined for greatness in every aspect of it; however, Jayne was simply different, she didn't care for titles nor blood. She didn't care like Kata did.

Kata’s blade and fireball both were frozen over, its heat unable to escape Jayne’s frozen wrath.

Students ran down surrounding Jayne with praise calling her the flame charmer. It's quite the oxymoron considering how she's an ice mage.

“This is how we're different,” Jayne remarks, as she walks over to the other students, “Are you all okay?”

roars of laughter and cheers fill the dungeon as Kata can only helplessly watch Sean was among the cheers however with but a glance he had already understood the thought of the prince, How dare they, I am the prince of Aisenhower yet these TRAITORS, flock to another. WWhat blasphemous bastards. Each and everyone of them should be cut by the belly and hung to dry. At least thats what he believes Kata to think. Perhaps Sean paints Kata in a negative light much more radical than he really is. As they stood in the large room, students voiced their dissatisfaction with Kata and his arrogant form of  leadership. They had grown tired of him and rightfully so. Jayne has impressed them far more than he ever could, she is strong and dependable a beacon to her fellow classmates.

Whispers and murmurs spread through the group until someone finally spoke up. "Why don't we follow Jayne instead? She's the one who saved us back there."

Rippling murmur of agreement spread like wildfire through the crowd. Kata's face darkens with rage as he explodes once more, his pride shot and killed by the open defiance. He clenched his fists, trying to regain control of the situation. "You'd rather follow her?" he spat, glaring at the students who had turned against him.

Jayne, surprised by the sudden support, hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Alright, if that's what you want, I'll do my best to lead you; however you will not be forced to follow me, it must be your own decision.”

Some stayed behind whereas most moved on with Jayne. Two factions are now at play, with one end placing their trust in an arrogant prince whereas the other  now placing their trust in Jayne, followed her down a separate passageway. Kata's face twisted into a mix of anger and determination as he stormed off, leading his smaller group down a different path. Both leaders, filled with resolve, led their respective groups deeper into the dungeon, unaware of the challenges that awaited them.

Mixed emotions flow throughout the dungeon, and it was but the start to a long week in hell. Only those raised by the depths of the horrid world could prepare themselves for what was to come. The liability of ignorant eagerness will play a role in this game, however they may play it. Sean steps away from the croud as he gazes upon Kata, wether he’s insanely perceptive or lucky he understood leaving someone like Kata alone for too long would result in nothing but terror. He wwas like the devil himself whenever it came to ordeals like this. How could he possibly manage such a defeat with silence. Such a contradicting action from what most can assume.
