Mr. Alfred tour me in the house. This house they called is like a mansion to me. It’s very big and the outside is so spacious that you can run and play outside. You never thought that this place was in the mountains.
There are childrens too. But the difference is they do the chores and the others are working in the house. Mr. Alfred says that Lady Citrine wants the children to learn how to live especially if they want to live outside the mountains. That’s the thing we didn’t learn under that orphanage. Some of them teach the children how to write and how to read. I remember when Jenny and I learned to read and to write to someone, someone who’s special to us.
We walked a mile away and we reached a very beautiful scenery that I never saw. A place full of flowers and grass. A very refreshing and peaceful sight. I remember my regrets. I wish I had brought Jenny here sooner. I wish I knew sooner what sister Joan was. And I wish we could escape together. But all of that was a useless dream of mine.
“What are you thinking now, kiddo?” Mr. Alfred said while patting my head
I looked at him …
“I just… just remembering my friend.” I replied and smiled at him bitterly.
He sighed.
“You know it’s not easy to let go of feelings especially if it’s the word regret. Sometimes you think, ‘why did I do that? Why am I being stupid? Why do I need to leave her?’ but those thoughts are making your mind miserable. I didn’t want to mean that your friend needs to die but one thing I know and that is everything that happens to us has a reason. We don’t know, maybe if she’s still alive, both of you will be in danger or if she is alive you're the one who will be dead. But it doesn’t mean that if you're the one who died she will still be alive. What if those monsters knew she knows their secret and she can’t escape? After they eat you they eat her too? I'm not trying to comfort you, it's just solving the questions of ‘what if’s’. We lived here like a cursed life and we can't change if we are powerless. So we need to be strong to face the battle of our lives.” He said
Mr. Alfred was right. I need to get to myself and do whatever it takes to get revenge for my friend. I need to do something. I need to fight for her sake.
“I want to fight, Mr. Alfred.” I said
Mr. Alfred looked at me.
“Are you sure about that kid?” He asked
“Yes. I'm determined.” I replied
“Kid, that’s not an easy route. Think carefully before you make a decision.” He said
“My decision was final. I want to fight. I want justice for my friend.” I replied
“Why? Do you think taking revenge was easy?” He asked
“No….” I paused
“Taking revenge is not a good thing to say and not good will come to you too. Because revenge is a cycle of suffering. It means never ending. I think…. I want justice. I want fair punishment to those who trample our lives. If they eat us, we will eat them too.” I said to him seriously
He burst out laughing.
Did I say something wrong?
“You… you really!! Hahahahahaha!!” He said while laughing
“What? Am I wrong?” I asked him
“Hahahahaha!! You’re a funny kid. How do we eat them if we don’t have a big mouth like them?” he said while laughing
I get a blush of embarrassment.
“Don’t worry kid.” He pat my head strongly
“We will get that justice or revenge you want. But before that, we need to go somewhere.” He said
****
We walked far away and reached the big gate.
“It’s big! What’s inside here?” I asked
“Wanna know, kid? Then, let’s see inside.” He said
He opened it and we entered inside.
I was trembling and scared from what I saw.
‘How on earth did they get here?’
I saw the monsters and there's so many of them. The seven monsters were at a stage while the others were in the cage. I can’t move my body or even my feet.
Mr. Alfred patted my shoulder.
“Kid, you need to know that we don’t need fake bravery here. We need strong people here to fight those monsters.” Mr. Alfred said.
I looked at him while sweating. His facial expression changed to a serious one.
“You need to observe this kid if you want to be strong. Watch how they take down those monsters.” He said
I looked at him and I saw people.
Two ladies and three men were there fighting seven monsters.
“This is our training ground, kid. No one can enter this place aside from us. When you enter this place, you have no other choice but to fight back or you'll be eaten.” He said
So… this is how they train. At first I was scared but after Mr. Alfred said those things, my body didn’t recognize any fear of them. I need to throw my fear of them to be able to fight them. I need to be strong. Stronger than any of them.
“What do you think? Do you think you can handle them?” Mr. Alfred asked
“I'm not sure for now, but I will do my best to be stronger than them.” I said
“This is reality, kid. You need to face your fear to be able to live. You need to be stronger to face the struggles in your life. Even if it’s small or big, you need to fight them. You’re a coward if you back out of your own words.” He said
He’s right. I need to get stronger and stronger to fight them back. There’s no place for the weak heart. I need to set aside my down feelings and look at the good memories to win in this game of life.
At the orphanage, life is very fun. Even without parents, sister Joan takes care of the little ones. But everything changes in the blink of an eye. When Jenny, Ben's best friend, got adopted. He followed her to see who her adopted parents were but a horrible thing happened. A monster came out and it ate her best friend. The most hurtful thing is that the person they trusted the most, Sister Joan, is one of those monsters.
