It was summer, and the warm summer breeze blowing on the face was supposed to feel pleasant. However, Wang Hai felt a chill spreading inside his body.
He cautiously watched Lin Zhiming.
At that moment, he caught a glimpse of Lin Zhiming's profile.
This profile, which could be described as a stunning beauty, bore an air of indifference.
This indifference reflected a profound understanding of the world and a coldness that seemed to come from deep within.
Lin Zhiming lifted one foot and stepped outside.
“Be careful, boss!” Wang Hai hurriedly exclaimed.
“Don’t worry,” Lin Zhiming replied with a smile. “I’ve been pushed off the seventh floor once; it’s only happened once in my life, and there won’t be a next time.”
“Who would dare push you off the seventh floor?! I’ll go avenge you!” Wang Hai said excitedly.
Lin Zhiming shook his head, said nothing more, and turned to walk downstairs.
Wang Hai looked at Lin Zhiming; although Lin Zhiming had never described what it felt like to fall from the seventh floor, Wang Hai could roughly guess that the feeling might be despair.
The Lin family’s old mansion was thus completely cleared out.
Lin Zhiming didn’t intend to live in this old mansion; he merely wanted to drive people away, and where those people would live afterward was not his concern.
As for where those people would live, that was something Shen Hongyue needed to worry about.
Looking at the dozens of Lin family members in front of her, Shen Hongyue’s anger flared up.
“That Lin Zhiming, that wretched child, relying on his connections, actually drove you all out of the old mansion! He truly has no sense of kinship with the Lin family!!” Shen Hongyue said through gritted teeth.
“Hongyue, you have to stand up for us!” Lin Maocai cried, his face wet with tears and snot. Being thrown out meant he was truly homeless.
“Don’t worry!” Shen Hongyue said coldly. “I will solve the housing problem. You are all relatives of Zhi Xing, and I will not abandon you. As for that Lin Zhiming, humph, he will pay the price for his foolish decision!!”
“Do you have any plans?” Lin Maocai asked.
Shen Hongyue smiled proudly and said, “Just wait and see!”
At noon,
Lin Zhiming drove his modern Elantra back to his home in Jingyuan Community.
As he pushed open the door, a wave of delicious food aroma wafted from inside.
Lin Zhiming’s mood suddenly brightened immensely.
What could be more delightful than a delicious meal after a long day’s work?
He took off his shoes and walked straight to the kitchen.
In the kitchen, Yao Jing, now dressed in casual home clothes, was busy cooking.
“Go wash your hands; dinner will be ready soon,” Yao Jing said, her back to Lin Zhiming.
“Okay!” Lin Zhiming nodded and went to wash his hands in the restroom.
When he entered the dining room, three dishes and a soup, along with two bowls of white rice, were already prepared.
Lin Zhiming sat down at the dining table.
Yao Jing came over, filled a bowl with soup, placed it in front of Lin Zhiming, and then sat down, quietly eating her rice.
“Thank you,” Lin Zhiming said, finishing the soup in a few gulps before picking up the rice to eat.
No one spoke at the dining table, just like the previous four years.
In fact, Lin Zhiming and Yao Jing didn’t talk much; unless there was something to discuss, they hardly exchanged words at home.
They finished their meals almost simultaneously; afterward, Yao Jing stood up and walked to the living room, while Lin Zhiming began to clean the dishes and headed to the kitchen.
Cooking was Yao Jing’s responsibility, while washing dishes was Lin Zhiming’s job. This had been their unspoken agreement for the past four years.
When Lin Zhiming finished washing the dishes and walked into the living room, Yao Jing had already changed into her business suit.
I have to say, Yao Jing looked incredibly alluring in her suit, and even after four years, Lin Zhiming still felt a surge of unique masculine excitement.
Not to mention anything else, Yao Jing was undoubtedly an excellent partner.
“This afternoon, we’ll go to your company together,” Yao Jing said to Lin Zhiming.
“To my company?” Lin Zhiming was momentarily taken aback but then remembered what Yao Jing had said earlier at Tianjiao Group.
Lin Zhiming couldn’t help but smile and said, “You could take this time to rest properly.”
Yao Jing looked at Lin Zhiming for about seven or eight seconds before saying, “What does the person behind you think?”
“The person behind me?” Lin Zhiming laughed, “How are you so sure that I have someone behind me?”
“If you don’t have anyone behind you, where did you get the ten billion? If you don’t have anyone behind you, how do you have the confidence to wage war against the entire Lin family?” Yao Jing asked.
“If I say I have no one behind me, would you believe me?” Lin Zhiming asked.
“I wouldn’t,” Yao Jing shook her head. After four years of marriage, Lin Zhiming had been under her watchful eye almost all the time except when traveling. She didn’t believe Lin Zhiming could make ten billion without her knowing.
Seeing the certainty in Yao Jing’s expression, Lin Zhiming could only suppress a smile. His time in hiding had far exceeded the time he had known Yao Jing. In fact, even before marrying Yao Jing, he already had a vast industry, and after their marriage, his enterprises were rapidly expanding.
However, if Yao Jing was so certain that someone was backing him, then Shen Hongyue and others must be thinking the same.
A so-called behind-the-scenes boss, whether real or not, was enough to draw fire away from him.
But did he need someone to draw fire away now?
The answer was no.
He was already strong enough to not fear any so-called enemies.
“I have no one behind me,” Lin Zhiming said sincerely, looking at Yao Jing.
Although Lin Zhiming had shown great sincerity, Yao Jing didn’t believe his words.
Just as Yao Jing was about to say something more, there was a sudden urgent knocking at the door.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The knocking was loud and fast, as if someone were trying to break the door down.
“My parents are here!” Yao Jing frowned and said, “Don’t say anything, just leave it to me.”
With that, Yao Jing stood up and walked to the door, opening it.
As the door swung open, Zhou Yanqiu and Yao Jianyong walked in one after the other.
“Mom, let me explain what happened today…” Yao Jing started to speak.
Zhou Yanqiu ignored Yao Jing and walked straight into the living room, sitting down opposite Lin Zhiming with her legs crossed.
“Zhiming, I want to ask you something,” Zhou Yanqiu said with a calm expression.
“Go ahead,” Lin Zhiming replied.
“You spent ten billion to buy Lin Group. Is that your own money or someone else’s?” Zhou Yanqiu asked.
“Someone else’s money,” Lin Zhiming said. He could tell the truth to Yao Jing, but not to his mother-in-law. During the four years of their marriage, this mother-in-law had never treated him like a human being. Now that Lin Zhiming was rising, some would suffer, and naturally, some would benefit. His mother-in-law was clearly not on the list of beneficiaries.
“I knew it! How could a kept man like you possibly have ten billion!” Zhou Yanqiu said with a cold sneer.
“Mom, don’t talk about Zhiming like that!” Yao Jing said, unhappy.
“Am I wrong? After four years of marriage, has he ever brought a single cent home? All the dividends from his companies are taken by others every month; if it weren’t for your salary, he would have starved to death!” Zhou Yanqiu said.
“But Zhiming has never asked me for a single cent,” Yao Jing replied.
“If a man doesn’t bring money home, he’s just a kept man!” Zhou Yanqiu said, turning her gaze to Lin Zhiming. “I don’t want to argue with you, but you probably think you’re really impressive now, able to spend ten billion. But in all our eyes, you’re just a puppet, worthless! I’m giving you a clear path: you should immediately go with Jingjing to the Civil Affairs Bureau to handle the divorce. This way, everyone can part on good terms. You can go be the boss of Lin Group, and Jingjing can return to Tianjiao Group as her executive president!”
“Mom, I already told you today that I won’t divorce Zhiming!” Yao Jing said seriously.
“Don’t speak!” Zhou Yanqiu glared at Yao Jing and continued looking at Lin Zhiming. “You’ve been married to Jingjing for four years; you know what kind of girl she is. Do you think you deserve her? Staying with you only means suffering! Don’t talk about how Lin Group is already yours; I’m afraid to tell you that I just got news that the fines and compensation for Lin Group have already exceeded its total market value. Once the fines are issued, Lin Group will be liquidated in a short time, and at that point, not only will you get nothing, but you’ll also be burdened with huge debts! Jingjing will be affected because she’s your wife. If you really care for Jingjing, divorce her immediately!”
“Your news is very well-informed,” Lin Zhiming said with a smile.
“Do you really think anyone in this world would be foolish enough to buy a company for you to be the boss? They’re just making you take the blame!” Zhou Yanqiu said disdainfully.
“Maybe,” Lin Zhiming smiled and looked at Yao Jing. “Jingjing, your mom has a point; being with me might indeed put you in debt.”
“I told you, I won’t let you just be a puppet. As for taking the blame, with me around, you won’t be blamed for anything!” Yao Jing said proudly. She had spent many years in business, developing Tianjiao Group from an unknown small company to its current scale, relying not on beauty, but on a smart mind and rich experience in competition.
“Daughter, are you stupid?!” Zhou Yanqiu angrily pointed at Lin Zhiming. “What’s good about this man? A kept man, weak, and not smart. At least he used to respect us; now that he’s someone else’s puppet, he doesn’t even show basic respect. You’re following someone like this; are you crazy?”
“Mom, since I willingly became Zhiming’s wife, I’m already prepared to bear all the consequences. No matter what you say, I won’t change my mind,” Yao Jing said firmly.
“You don’t even have a job now; how will you support yourself by following a man?” Zhou Yanqiu asked.
“There are always more ways than difficulties. At the very least, we can drive Didi or sell things on the street; we’ll manage to survive,” Yao Jing replied.
“Yao Jianyong, how did I end up with such a brainless daughter? Jingjing, do you realize you’re devaluing yourself? You…” Zhou Yanqiu’s words were cut short as she suddenly felt a chill wash over her.
She turned to look at Lin Zhiming and found him staring at her coldly.
“No matter what you say about me, I’ll treat it as if I didn’t hear it. However… I won’t allow you to speak about Yao Jing like that. She is mine,” Lin Zhiming said calmly.
Though the words were calm, they felt like a tempest brewing beneath the surface.
For a moment, Zhou Yanqiu couldn’t find her voice.
