Marcus found love. By the end of June, he met a woman at Paul’s bachelorette party. She is beautiful. Her eyes blue. He felt familiarity in them. Her hair curly. Everyone at the party courted her. He tried too, and by luck she accepted to have her first dance with him. Holding her felt like, I held my world. Her name is Agatha. She was Marcus’ everything. They went on 7 dates, and by the end of July, they officially confessed to each other. Marcus was over the moon.
Agatha is a humble woman. She works in media as casting director. She never judged Marcus for the numerous part-time jobs he does. They were pretty happy with each other. Ever since they become official couple, for the first 2 months, they were inseparable. They both moved in together and for Marcus, life felt good. As time went by, Agatha became unreachable by the tight deadlines and increasing call sheets. Marcus didn’t complain much. In these four months of relationship, Marcus felt the restlessness again. He felt the emptiness again. Agatha would come back home late at night, around 12:30 AM.
On their weekend times, Agatha would talk non-stop about her new casts. Marcus would listen to her all day. But deep down, he felt conscious of his appearance. Whenever Agatha talks about her new casting, she would go in detail about their appearance and how perfect they look for the role. Marcus had many questions in the tip of his tongue, and the questions are to himself mostly and partially to Agatha. Sometimes, she sends me her casting Guy’s pics saying how flawless he looks. Her keen description, makes Marcus less confident and to walk on eggshells around her.
And soon, their relationship started to drift, just like how soon it all began. Marcus, is not the outstanding handsome guy. He is 5’7 feet tall. He got few abs; thanks to the labor he did all his life. He is tanned in a good way. He got brown eyes. A warm one if he isn’t as restless as now. He’s always clean-shaven and kept his hair nice and trimmed- Not the hairstyle in the movies, but regular ones. But in all his life, he never once felt this conscious and ashamed of his appearance. Every time Agatha talks about a new guy, she casted for Hero, He feels a need to puke his guts out. Agatha felt distant. They don’t copulate anymore, like they did in the beginning of their Official couple phase.
Months went by and soon it’s December. Time felt like a mirage. It’s like, there is time but not exactly. The moment we recognize time, one blink and it’ll be gone. Gone like invisible wind brushing by us every day. All these months, Marcus had convinced himself that he can work this relationship. All these months he held onto the relationship as if it’s everything. He hoped and prayed everyday for this invisible distance between them to disappear.
It's December 31, the last day of the year and who knew, that day is also gonna be the last day of their relationship. Marcus went out for pizza delivery as usual. He bought a proposal ring, with his savings to propose to Agatha at the new year countdown and to start it all over again. But little did he expect his last delivery to the customer at a luxury hotel room to be her girlfriend in a bathrobe back hugged by one of the handsome cast guys. She didn’t apologize and he didn’t ask her to. Before closing the door, she said, “Hope you find your love next year”. He didn’t reply. He left.
