After finding a seat by the window, Zheng Zheng looked around at the customers and couldn't help but exclaim, "Incredible! These are all elites from high society. Just look at them: the men are cultured and elegant, with every gesture and movement showing their politeness; the women are gentle and graceful, speaking in soft tones. In such a scene, even I, a country bumpkin, would have to restrain myself and act a bit more refined."
Hearing this, Su Ning covered her cherry lips and let out a soft, delicate laugh. "Stop with the act! You were quite imposing when you walked in. Even those snobbish security guards were stunned by your presence."
Zheng Zheng chuckled lightly. Due to years of qi cultivation and meditation, he exuded an air of mystery and detachment. It was more than enough to intimidate ordinary people. He casually waved his hand, and a beautiful waitress promptly approached them. With a hearty demeanor, he asked Su Ning, "What do you want to eat? Go ahead and order, don’t worry about the money."
Su Ning took the menu, flipping through it but hesitating to speak.
Zheng Zheng noticed her indecisiveness and sighed inwardly, realizing that this little plump girl had a kind heart. He then grabbed another menu from the waitress, glanced through it, and efficiently ordered several dishes. After closing the menu, he suddenly remembered something and turned to the departing waitress, saying, "Oh, and add nine-section drunken shrimp, wasabi razor clams, and yellow-skinned heavenly wings to the order."
"Got it," the waitress replied and moved to the side to input the order.
Zheng Zheng took a sip of water, only to find Su Ning resting her delicate chin on her hand, staring at him with curiosity. He casually brought up a topic, "Little plump girl, it’s been over ten years since we last met, right? What do you do for work now?"
Su Ning's lively eyes sparkled mischievously as she replied, "Guess!"
Zheng Zheng shook his head, taking another sip of water. "I'm not a fortune teller, how could I possibly guess?"
Su Ning smiled mysteriously. "Zheng Zheng, you better be careful from now on. Don't let me catch you doing something bad."
"Cough, cough, cough…" Zheng Zheng nearly spat out his drink, staring at Su Ning's innocent face in disbelief. "Are you telling me you became a police officer?"
"Yes! Zheng Zheng, you're really sharp; you guessed it right. But I'm not an ordinary officer, I'm a criminal investigator." Su Ning said proudly.
"My God," Zheng Zheng exclaimed, slapping his forehead in disbelief. "A uniformed beauty? Is the police station there to catch criminals or to increase the crime rate? I can't imagine such a delicate, porcelain-like beauty in a uniform, wielding a stun gun and a service pistol. Is the police changing their case-solving strategy? Do they prefer using beauty traps now?"
"Because love won't easily turn to sorrow..." At that moment, Su Ning's phone rang, interrupting Zheng Zheng's shameless thoughts. She took it out, glanced at the screen, and, slightly disgusted, hung up. But less than half a minute later, the phone rang again.
"Is it that Wu Yunyi?" Zheng Zheng perked up, asking cautiously.
Su Ning pressed the screen hard and hung up again, angrily saying, "Who else could it be that's so shameless?"
A sly smile appeared on Zheng Zheng's face. "Little plump girl, the next time he calls, just pick up."
Su Ning was confused. "Why?"
Zheng Zheng winked at her, grinning. "This guy is so annoying. Don't you want to find an opportunity to vent your frustration?"
"I do! I dream of it!" Su Ning clenched her small fist, gritting her teeth.
Zheng Zheng chuckled. "Now's a great opportunity."
Su Ning looked puzzled. "What do you mean, Zheng Zheng?"
Zheng Zheng gestured for her to come closer and lowered his voice. "Just let him come over and pay the bill. We’ll eat our fill, going all out. Just choose the expensive dishes, not the right ones. If we make him pay tens of thousands for this meal, I can't believe Wu Yunyi wouldn't faint from the shock."
Su Ning's face flushed red, and she playfully scolded him, "Zheng Zheng, why are you so bad? What if he comes and doesn't pay the bill?"
Zheng Zheng replied confidently, "If he doesn’t pay, that’s even better! Just treat it as my treat to you. Let’s see if he dares to show his face in front of you again."
After some internal struggle, Su Ning finally bit her lip and said, "Alright."
In fact, Zheng Zheng had already overheard the conversation between Wang Lu and Wu Yunyi, confirming that the latter would definitely follow them. Annoyed with Wang Lu and knowing Su Ning disliked Wu Yunyi, Zheng Zheng felt it was a good idea to teach him a lesson and bleed him financially. That’s why he was so fearless and brazenly came to such an upscale place.
"Because love won't easily turn to sorrow…" Su Ning's phone rang again. She looked at it and pointed at the phone, and after Zheng Zheng nodded slightly, she pressed the answer button.
"Thank goodness, Su Ning, you finally picked up! I thought something happened to you! Where are you now?" Wu Yunyi’s voice came through, clear and bright since the speaker was on.
Su Ning frowned slightly, her tone annoyed. "I'm having dinner with a friend. What do you want?"
"Where are you eating? I haven’t eaten yet, and it’s more fun with more people." Wu Yunyi was quite cunning; he opened with concern, not mentioning Su Ning's missed appointment, instead going straight to the point.
"I can't decide that. You need to ask my friend's opinion." Although they had already formed a united front, Su Ning still deliberately made things difficult for Wu Yunyi.
"Then ask your friend. I think he would love to make new friends too."
Although Wu Yunyi sounded cheerful, Zheng Zheng could still detect a hint of impatience in his voice, which made him chuckle. "Su Ning, the food here is so expensive; I doubt I can afford an extra mouth to feed. Why not ask your friend to come another time?"
Hearing Zheng Zheng's voice, Wu Yunyi quickly replied, "No worries, brother! If you’re willing to invite me, I’ll cover lunch today."
After some back-and-forth banter, Su Ning and Zheng Zheng finally "reluctantly" agreed.
On the other end, Wu Yunyi hung up the phone, a cold smile creeping onto his lips. The excuses he made to refuse were pathetic; Su Ning really had nothing to worry about with that friend. Although the cost at the Qionglou in Bihai was high, spending a little to pursue Su Ning was worth it. He soon got into his Mercedes-Benz 350 and sped away.
At the same time, Zheng Zheng stood up and confidently sat down next to Su Ning. With her puzzled gaze, he cheerfully said, "I think you definitely don’t want to sit with that friend, right?"
Su Ning suddenly understood and vigorously nodded her head.
They sat there chatting, both feeling curious about each other's lives after over a decade of no contact.
After a while, Zheng Zheng asked, "Little plump girl, which unit are your parents working in now?"
