=== Volume Two Wrap-Up ===
I saw a couple comments speculating if the wolves had begun to domesticate bison but perhaps they just had it a bit backwards.
Domestication is a really fascinating (and not entirely understood) phenomenon in nature. Some animals can domesticate and some simply cannot. (Zebras are a prime example of an animal that cannot be domesticated, despite many concentrated efforts.)
I especially love the (very) fringe anthropological theory* that our long-ago pre-sapien ancestors self-domesticated.
In an anthro world, I really wanted to play with the idea of wolves self-domesticating. And so with that--finally--we have unlocked the blue-eye achievement for characters. (Blue eyes do not occur in the wild outside of infancy, but frequently pop up in animals with domestication syndrome**.)
So there you have it! The Zenith was right, world is indeed changing, and wolves can (must?) change with it.
I have a longer wrap-up for Volume Two over here, as a free/public post on my Patreon. Check it out if you want!

Anyway, thanks again for being on this journey with me. I appreciate you all as readers and I hope you enjoy where we go next!
Are the wolves the herding dogs for the herd, with the wolves playing guide, scout and defenders of the herd against other predators - and in return they get to eat the dead, sick, or dying? Is this a case of the wolves self domesticating? Like it's clearly a partnership of some kind in this setting, but perhaps the behaviors and interactions are more similar to dogs? Heterochromia is not usually found in wild wolves, as it was an aesthetic trait humans liked, so maybe it's early signs of a more social leaning biology in this group of wolves?
(Or it could just be because it's a cool look for the character, maybe I'm looking into it too much)
But also the fact they say it ends here, implies that they've snuffed out the other forges or communities that know how to forge.
When animals considered to be "prey" by the apex predators of the world begin to band together for safety, where does it leave those caught in between?
Namely, a pair of pine martens, carnivores and flesh-eaters themselves, but small enough to be considered food for the bears, wolves and gluttons of the forest and field. They're on a journey to seek sanctuary with the rabbits, squirrels and other prey that have gathered to Oren--but they don't know if welcome or condemnation will meet them.
