He had received it in the mail a few days ago, with no note, no explanation, just a return address for Longhorn Analytics, a company he knew was involved with the creation of MaXiNE, the AI who changed the lives of his family both financially and emotionally.
Nick's fingers hovered over the control panel; his curiosity piqued. He had always been interested in technology, in coding, in the way things worked. This suit, whatever it was, was a puzzle he couldn't resist.
He pressed the power button, and the suit hummed to life. It glowed softly, the material shimmering as it began to adjust, molding itself to his body. Nick's eyes widened, a thrill running through him as he felt the suit tighten around him, becoming a second skin.
"Whoa," he breathed, his voice barely above a whisper.
He looked down at himself, watching as the suit adjusted, fitting him like a glove. It was unsettling, yet exhilarating, the way it seemed to know his body, to mold itself to him. He could feel it, the material shifting, moving, almost... pulsing. He reached up, running his fingers over the control panel. It was smooth, cool to the touch, but as he traced the buttons, he felt a slight vibration, a gentle hum.
He pressed one, and the suit's display lit up, a holographic interface projecting from the panel.
It was sleek, intuitive, and Nick's fingers danced over the controls, his curiosity piqued. He navigated through menus, exploring the suit's capabilities. It was equipped with sensors, haptic feedback, virtual reality, and even something called 'neural sync.' Nick's heart raced as he realized the implications. This was more than just a haptic suit; it was a fully immersive, interactive experience.
Suddenly, a notification popped up on the display. "One unread message from Carla." Nick's mom.
He played the message, and his mom's face appeared on the holo-display, her image projected in mid-air. She looked different, a flush of color in her cheeks, her eyes bright and alert. She was wearing a similar suit, he noticed, the material shimmering under the light.
"Hi Nick, if you're watching this it means you've put on the suit I sent you," Carla said, her voice echoing slightly in the empty room. "I know it looks strange, but trust me, it's amazing. Me and your sister have been testing a couple of prototypes for Tex Longhorn and I wanted you to have one too; the most advanced one to date." Carla's eyes sparkled with excitement, her hands gesturing animatedly as she spoke. "It's got haptic feedback, VR, AR, and something called neural sync, which I've never tried, because well, prototypes and all."
Nick's eyes widened, his mind racing with possibilities. "Neural sync? Like, it can read my thoughts?"
Carla laughed, a sound that was both infectious and slightly manic. "I have no idea what you just asked Nick, I'm a prerecorded message. But no matter what you just asked, remember, you'll always be my sweet, sweet boy. And pleasant dreams." Carla's prerecorded message ended, leaving Nick staring at the empty holo-display, a mix of emotions swirling within him. He was excited about the suit, about the possibilities it offered, but he was also confused about his mom's behavior. She seemed... different, more vibrant, almost manic in her excitement.
His thoughts drifted then, as they've often done of late, to the memory of the spaghetti dinner they enjoyed weeks ago. Remembering the foot massage, then that moment he released his searing seed onto her mound, Carla's gasping moans still echoed in his mind. He shook his head, trying to clear the thoughts, but they persisted, his body responding to the memory. He looked down at the suit, a blush creeping up his neck. He wondered if the suit could detect his arousal, if it could somehow translate his thoughts, his feelings, into physical sensations.
Nick sighed, pushing all thoughts except the last word from Carla's prerecorded message from his mind, "Pleasant dreams." There was one labeled 'Sleep Mode.' Nick selected it, and the suit hummed gently. The room around him began to dim, the lights fading to a soft glow. The sound of waves crashing against a shore filled the room, a subtle breeze rustling the virtual leaves of the trees surrounding him. He was standing on a beach, the sand warm and soft beneath his feet. The suit was responding to his thoughts, creating a calming environment to help him sleep.
Nick marveled at the intricacy of the virtual world, the way the suit could mimic the sensation of sand beneath his feet, the warmth of the sun on his skin. He could feel the gentle breeze, hear the distant cries of seagulls. It was almost too real.
Nick took a deep breath, the scent of saltwater and sun-warmed sand filling his nostrils. He closed his eyes, letting the sounds and sensations wash over him. He felt a sense of peace, of tranquility, that he hadn't felt in a long time. Despite the strangeness of the situation, he felt safe, secure and drifted off to sleep, the suit cocooning him in a warm embrace.
