Hi there, author here! If you have been following along with my novel (first of all, thank you, it's much appreciated), you may have noticed that I haven't posted in a new chapter in quite a while. Although I had fully intended to join the Action-Fantasy Tourney, life ended up getting in the way and I started to fall behind on writing. Since I wasn't writing as much, I started to reevaluate my story from an outside perspective. I realized that my novel didn't fit the theme of the contest, and fell more into the romance-fantasy genre, rather than the action-fantasy genre. So, I ultimately decided to put it on pause, while I worked on other projects. I intended to make a hiatus notice sooner, but...well I got swept in my other projects and this fell to the wayside.
So, where does this put Misfortune's Favorite Customers now?
To be clear, I don't want to drop this novel. Although this story was meant to be a webcomic (hence the art in the first few chapters or so), I decided to push ahead on making a webcomic out of one of my other stories instead. I do feel like the novel format does fit Misfortune's Favorite Customers well, and I do enjoy adding art to each episode. It scratches that "comic" itch I have with this particular story, since I'm unable to dedicate an entire webcomic for this story at this point in time. I do want to have a good sense of quality and consistency for this story, something I felt was lost after a few chapters since I was rushing it out in time for the Action-Fantasy Tourney (Primarily, the absence of art in later chapters).
As a result, I'm putting this story on pause to not only polish my writing, but to also update each episode with art! Here the plan:
1. No further updates will be made until all previous episodes have art. My goal is to add at least 2 colored drawings per episode, that represent the important points of that episode.
2. No major plot changes will be made to the posted episodes. Episodes will just be checked more throughly for grammar and spelling errors.
3. The main genre of the story will be changed form action-fantasy to romance-fantasy. Tags will also be edited to reflect this.
4. As soon all episodes are updated, this notice will be deleted and the novel will continue as normal. Frequency of episode posting will be worked out as soon as the new episode is posted.
How long will this hiatus last? Unfortunately I don't have a concrete date, but I estimate at the very least a month. I need to find a good balance between by projects, in a way where I'm giving enough attention to my webcomic and to this novel, without burning myself out completely. But, I'll be periodically updating episodes with new art, so if you are interested in following Misfortune's Favorite Customers, make sure to subscribe!
Oriana Penrose expected her death to be less violent.
She imagined her death to be rather mundane, given her current situation. She saw herself growing as wrinkled as a raisin baked in the hot sun, and as old as the grandfather clock her master kept in his study. She could have seen herself resting her dusty, old bones for the final time on the stone bench in the garden, after a long day of sweeping and dusting the lady’s bedroom.
In other instances, she could have seen herself perishing in a carriage accident, on her way to retrieve a hand tailored coat for the lady’s daughter. Or perhaps in a hunting accident, being mistaken for a docile deer by the master’s son. In a less mundane senario, she could have even seen herself bursting her head open like a grape against the marble flooring of the dance hall while mopping it.
Instead, she was gifted her ultimate demise by impalement.
Perhaps it was fortunate, or unfortunate, the man in the red coat found her. Does Oriana deserve a second chance at life? Or, is she destined to rest six feet under ground for eternity?
