Volume 1: Preface

Volume 1: Preface

Nov 03, 2024

There's a lot to be said about belief. It can carry us to great places, or it can mislead the masses. It can sustain you when you feel like giving up or explain strange, irrational behavior.

However.

When someone's belief is shattered beyond repair, beyond recovery, it can be enough to drive them to desperate acts.

But even scarier than shattered belief is knowing that a belief held from a seat of fear is confirmed and wholly true.

When the world started to see more and more children every year being born with nearly all of them having some innate uncanny Ability, it showed us the absolute depths of Humanity's intolerance and bigotry.

Even now, many of those abhorrent sentiments are the driving force behind many crimes and heinous acts to this day. For when given Power, humans succumb to corruption. It isn't the Power that corrupts, but the direction that a person's heart can take. For many people, even those with strong hearts, can be lied to and led astray by people with bad intentions. Those same strong-hearted people can also be led astray by the lies they tell themselves daily.

When I think of the lies that Humans tell themselves, I wonder about everything that I've been taught. How life is full of contradiction, to the brim, overflowing with mystery.

It has all led up to this moment.

For the past 30 years, my family has fought to be on the side of Justice. It's gotten us into more trouble than good, but it's all we've ever known. And this story, too, is that of my family. It's the story of all Humanity, repeated in another painful cycle.

Well, I reject that future of pain!

It isn't just about us, nor is it what we can do. It's about wanting. It's about examining. Introspection until we realize our core truth and break past what is possible in the now. Never halting growth until we achieve that wonderful world full of magic that our ancestors dreamed of.

But the system works as it's designed. It keeps us all from reaching our true potential on many levels. To build a bright future, we must give those deliberately forgotten people a chance. Repair the harm of the past, show people that violence isn't the answer, and make peace for the sake of peace.

The story that follows is the story of my family. How we freed ourselves. As cliché as it sounds: Time really does heal all wounds, and I mean this quite literally. I would know. My powers are time- based. They helped me to write this very book.

And, as Time aided in healing the wounds left behind from the generational curses that had been dispelled, I noticed myself changing. The more I observed, the more the figurative light particle of that universe began to change. Quantum entanglement is certainly real, and it's left an indelible mark on my consciousness.

Time is not as cruel as everyone paints it to be. It simply wants everyone to make better choices.

If you're reading this book, you've made an excellent choice. You're most likely here to research about the life and career of one of Earth's greatest heroes, Legacy. Much better than a textbook, this novel is a carefully researched memoir (biography?) that took me many years to compile and edit into this condensed form.

It was even approved by the hero themselves. Albeit, the first draft was a very embarrassing read, to be sure. In any case, I've been officially sanctioned to help explain and give nuance to part of a sentient being's life. It's an important task.

I have a responsibility to document these events not just for the future, but as the Keeper of the Royal Archives of the Fae Realm. It has taken me a little over ten years of pure determination to track down the truth of many events listed within these pages. It has taken me battling with myself, my own hangups, to see that I really do have a lot more work to do in the future.

Sometimes we tend to forget that our planet is constantly moving, following the path outlined by our shining Goddess Lucia above, traveling this universe and taking us along for the journey.

There will always be villains, heroes, gods, faeries, failures, successes, darkness, light, good, evil, and everything else under the sun. But we have to choose who we are going to be and not let others decide that for us.

Not everyone can save the day, but one day maybe it won't need saving. That's all we can ever hope to work towards.

In true hero fashion, and in the words of my family's shared Alma Mater:

Aim Boldly for the stars in the sky: Fly Higher!
