"Come on, it will be fun!" Terry told me.
"I-I don't know..." I said, glancing up at the mega structure of screaming metal and adrenaline-filled people.
The monstrous structure of a roller coaster that stood in front of us called "The climb" was the newly constructed tallest and fastest roller coaster.
"Oh, don't be like that Bianca. You need to let go and have some fun. You've been through a lot, so let's try something new." Lisa told me giving my shoulder a light pump.
She wasn't wrong. It had been over a week now since dad disappeared, and Judith was adamant about trying to find out more about his disappearance. Taking a break from it all would be refreshing.
"I guess... No, you are right. I mean, how bad could it be?" I said.
"That's the spirit!" Lisa said putting her arms around my neck.
So we marched on up to the mountain of rail and metal, each step being drowned by the joyous screams of the riders. The line moved quickly, and before I knew it, I stood right by the gate waiting for the next set of carts.
The carts where a sort of vest that held your body in place, letting your legs hang free.
Each cart had a set of four of these vests, and when the next came in the workers quickly shoved Terry and Lisa up with two others. They tried to put forward that I was with them, but I said it was okay, I could just take the next one.
They gave me a sympathetic look, but I didnt want to make things complicated for the workers. So they got fastened and in a moment, they where flung away.
The next cart in soon after and I got on. I sat with two others. A couple.
They took the seats behind me.
As my vest was being fastened, I thought I heard something, a faint whistle echoed through the hall. However, I was quickly taken back to reality as I felt how my vest felt loose.
"H-hey!" I tried to signal the staff.
"I don't think my vest is on properly!" I shouted, but he didn't hear me, and before I knew it, I was pushed back into the pose behind me as we started to move.
"Shit!" I swore clenching my vest tight, as if it was supposed to help in case it came of.
We moved forward before we began to slowly rise up. Each second, we traversed up the seemingly never ending mountain that was this roller coaster.
As we got closer to the top, it got harder to see the rest of the attraction, in fact, I couldn't hear anything. Not the screams of joyous passengers, nor the laughter of the park visitors bellow us, I couldn't even hear the couple behind me.
All I could hear was that whistle. Now much closer, as if coming right next to me. So like the curious fool I was, I looked. I turned my head to what was supposed to be an empty seat next to me.
However, now there sat a humanoid figure clad in black along with a gray hat. It stood hovering along with the track, and as we reached the top, I could finally see something again. But what I saw was simply horrifying.
Turns that shoot out into oblivion, loops that crash into each other, a sharp object hanging in the way ready to cleave a person asunder and twists right into the ground.
I screamed, but I couldn't hear it. All I heard was the whistling of the thing beside me as we dove right into this hellish ride. I felt my body being cast from side to side whilst the g-forces drag at me as the cart turned and twisted and looped and fell and rose.
With every fall and twist on this never ending ride, I felt my vest get more loose.
"I want off! Let me off!" I screamed, but the ride just continued.
As it went up yet another impossible climb, I felt how the cart detached from one rail before harshly landing on the next. A loose pole digging itself into my leg as we ran into it at impossible speeds.
"Please just let me be!" I begged.
I looked once more to the thing sitting next to me, and it simply followed, keeping on its familiar whistle.
"I just want it to stop!" I shout to it.
"What did I do? What did I do to you?" I screamed, demanding an answer.
Another loop forced me to hold on as if not have my neck be ripped of due to my body hanging limp in the other direction.
I cried out to my mother and my father. Both are now gone from my life. I thought of my sister and her obsessive rambling about some creature and her insistence that it had taken our father.
As more and more twists and loops and death defying turns came into view, I looked once more to the creature next to me.
This time, I was met with its hand. Outstretched to me as if to help me calm down. With nothing else to do, I hesitantly let my right hand lose of my vest, feeling my body slightly become more free from its life saving grasp, and I took its hand.
The moment I did, I felt a warmth of comfort, and it's whistle became even more clearer than before. Now it sounded more of a nostalgic tune of summer trust than a barbaric melody of eminent death.
In that moment, I saw something truly special.
In that moment, I saw the face it hid beneath that hat.
"How could something so terrifying and horrid bare such a face..."
The thought echoed in my mind as I thought of a word to describe it.
Even though I couldn't think of a way to describe it, be it beautiful or disgusting, I couldn't dare say what it was. but if I could say of one word. I would say the one that came to me in that very moment.
Sad.
As I felt my tears swell up in my eyes, I knew what was to happen next. But now I wasn't afraid. Instead, I stretched out both my hands and let the vest become loose.
Letting my body be free from its shackles and have me fly for but a moment before I saw the ground once more. No longer that hell I was stuck in.
As the ground came close, I closed my eyes, hearing my parents' voice just one more time before it got dark.
