Were there ice packs in early Victorian South Africa? Googling such things is how I spend my time...but doesn't everyone? ;D

Before refrigeration, there were icehouses that housed ice broght in for the duration of the year. Basically just a giant thermos, a very thick insulated wall. So yeah, there was ice. South Africa, a British colony at the time? yeah
Texas was famous for ice houses. Building hundreds of them....they're a cultural icon. Tehn expanded to serve beer and groceries. The term ice house is a colloquialism for an establishment that derives the majority of its income from the sale of cold beer
