Alec
He’d been looking for any signs of Ross for the past four days, it had so many dead leads that Alec was starting to believe that Ross was merely a figment of Eveline’s imagination. However, he felt that his presence was too consistent in Eve’s writing for that to be entirely accurate. Ross helped Eve with too many physical things for him to be fake. He repeatedly nursed Eve to health when sick, cooked for her, and he even gave her gifts that Alec had been able to find.
Alec groaned, his face in his hands, it was all too confusing. He started back at the beginning of Ross’s appearance in Eve’s journal again and froze at the words that played across his vision.
“I had the strangest experience today, I was feeding my cat and a man suddenly appeared out of thin air. I almost pepper sprayed him in the face, but he yelped and took a step back before I could. He seemed as freaked out as I was.
A few minutes later he evaporated and was gone. I thought I was seeing things at first, but my cat got scared too. Was that man actually real? Or am I just too tired and need to go to bed?”
Perhaps what he was looking for wasn’t a hallucination, but a phantom or ghost? Maybe Ross haunted the manor and could affect things within it. That would explain how it never mentioned going anywhere outside of the manor. Or maybe he was a demon? Is that how Eve died?
