I woke up with pain in my head, probably because of my phone's vibrating mode. It was buzzing like its going to explode. The whole thing felt like it was bloating up. As soon as I woke up, Winnie stormed into the room.
"OH MY GOD! VEEVEE! YOU'RE FINALLY AWAKE.
OH MY GOSH! I'M SO HAPPY!
I WAS SO WORRIED FOR YOU".
While saying this all, she embraced me firmly. The warmth of her hug made me feel alive again.
Oh dear! Are you alright Vee?
She asked me, as she saw tears in my eyes. Then she saw the snapchat memory, on my phone screen ----- a picture of me and my little sister Alexis.
"Oh Vee! Don't do this to yourself. You're a brave girl", she said as she winked at me.
Her statement or better I should say compliment made me smile.
"THAT'S MY GIRL!", she exclaimed.
She enveloped me in a hug again. It felt like for a moment, all the pain and confusion faded away. "Oh! I missed you so much!", Winnie said, pulling back to look into my eyes.
Before I could've responded, Margaret entered the room.
"GOOD HEAVENS! MADAM! , YOU WOKE UP!" , she said, her voice filled with genuine happiness.
"Thank God for your recovery", she added, her eyes glistening with tears of relief.
I managed a weak smile, feeling overwhelmed by the love that surrounded me.
Then I got out of my bed and Winnie asked, "where are you going?"
"I'm going to the bathroom to freshen up, and then I will be heading to the office". I replied.
"Are you crazy Alvie ? Like seriously? Just look at yourself. You've just gotten out of bed. You have barely mustered the strength to get out of bed! Going to the office is out of question. Your wounds didn't even heal properly. You need rest! You're not going anywhere, okay? Are you listening to me?", Winnie articulated with concern etched on her face.
"Well, I was resting for two whole weeks, Winnie", I said it with a lighthearted vibe.
"It ain't called resting", she scoffed.
"Well I meant to say a horizontal life pause", I joked about it.
"It's called recovery, darling", she put a humorous spin to it.
'Well okay, recovery', I surrender. But Winnie I can't do it. I have to go. There's a lot of work pending, and numerous meetings scheduled up. It's a whole load of work, I protested.
'Alvie! NO!', she demanded.
'Winnie please try to understand, look I'm okay', I said in a pleasing tone.
Well, okay then, she uttered. I have a condition.
'And what is that basically?' I ask.
"You're not going without a breakfast, and I'll be going with you to your office. DEAL?", she declared.
Winnie ! I exclaimed.
"DEAL OR NOT?", Winnie stated.
'Okay, deal!', I say.
'Margaret please make breakfast for me and Winnie', I added.
'Sure madam', she replied.
'What would you like to have madam?' Margaret inquired.
'What I always had', I said.
'WAFFLES', madam, Got it, she said.
"No Margaret, I meant pancakes!", I say with amusement.
After saying that, I went to take a bath. It felt like I hadn't been washed up in ages.
