Summer Bummer

The Plan

The Plan

Nov 09, 2024

In the same night, Kenny went up to single cliff from the island and looked around at the mixed
colored sky, a combination of warm yellow, hardcore orange, and burning red surrounding the
front horizon laid in front of his eyes, a sight that anyone would wish they could see, and a sight
that not everyone deserves to see.

In that moment of admiration towards natural beauty, thoughts rammed themselves, trying to get
outside his mind, to take action, just like the thought of going back to going back to Kina’s home
to apologize to her, but he just couldn’t; How could he show his face after what happened a few
days before; But he got a little bit curious too, wanting to know how she talks, her personality
and what type of person Kina is.

Looking up towards the starry sky, sprinkled with bright shining stars; Suddenly, Kenny realizes
a falling star across the horizon. Right at that moment, the star's shape is reflected by his eyes,
which targeted the star’s movement and the time slowed down for a moment.

“A falling star…”

He whispered before jumping up to say his words from inside his soul.

“I… I WISH TO FIX THINGS, NO MATTER THE COST; NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS TO
ME!”

Yelled out Kenny as loud as he could, with his voice filled with emotions, sorrow and vexation,
Then, after the star fell down to the other side of the explanation, he sat back down, putting his
hands on his face, covering it just like an imaginary mask that he wanted to keep on, and
sighted. This gesture transitions in the morning, where Kenny yawns, having both of his palms
over his face, followed by a good stretch.

Right after Kenny got out of his bed, he had decided to make some movement and went for a
good and healthy walk on the beach. Putting on his outside clothes, he closed the door behind
him, as the scene transitions on the beach, with a sunrise in his left, coloring half of his body
and leaving the other half in an engulfing shadow, and Kenny himself being exhausted, out of
breath, dropping himself on his buttocks, supporting his upper body with the use of his arms as
support pillars.

“Aghh… 45 seconds… not enough, I have to do better next time”
Said Kenny out of breat

Suddenly, behind him, there were small sounds of sand moving around similar to a sound when
someone steps or walks on it.

Quickly turning his head back, towards the sound, quick as a lightning bolt.

Behind him, a girl arrived, someone that looked around the same age as him, or even older with
a few years.

“C-can I help you with something?”
Asked Kenny, confusing his eyes

The girl slightly approached Kenny and stared down at him for a few seconds, and as she got
closer and closer, Kenny realized that she was the same girl as before, the one that she met
while on the highway. Her eyes were watery, filled with sadness in context with the blank motion
on her face, just like a statue, but her eyes could target Kenny’s soul, staring at him for a few
seconds before opening her mouth to reveal a sentence.

“It only gets worse, never better”

“S-sorry… what are you trying to say–?”

Asked Kenny, gently, not knowing how to act in the situation, while interrupted by something
really loud from behind, like a galaxy of needles would fall down right on the sea.
Kina started crying, blinding Kenny’s ears, where he had to numb the sound by slamming his
palms on his ears. In that time, a massive shadow was casted on the two of them.
Confusing his eyes, he quickly turned towards the sea entirely, where he saw a tsunami of
oranges, falling down one on the other, countless in numbers.

“Is this… what I deserve?”

Whispered Kenny, with a gentle voice, extending his eyes; slowly taking his palms from his ears,
still hearing Kina’s scream, but only in a muffled note.

He started up, at the tens of meters long tsunami, which swallowed him in an instant.
Kenny quickly woke up, raising his upper body from his bed, while gasping for air, filled with
sweat, looking around his room.

“Oh my days… just a dream”

Groaned Kenny, dropping himself back on the bed, with both of his hands over his eyes.
In his pajama shorts and t-shirt, he walked himself into the kitchen, where he took out the milk
from a shoulder-length fridge, and a cardboard box filled with oats from inside a closet.

With the use of a metallic spoon, Kenny mixed the oats with the milk, just in a way so that the
two would match just perfectly, and placed it into the microwave, at around 175w, for three exact
minutes.
Into the bathroom, he brushed his teeth very well, to keep his hygiene well and clean.
Taking a quick shower, Kenny put on some soft music on his phone, while taking the shower.
After that, he dressed up in “outside clothes”, which were his good clothes, took the
coffee-colored ceramic bowl out of the microwave, and a glass cup filled with water, and headed
back to the main room, where his laptop was.

He opened the laptop on his writing software and started writing a few new pages for his
upcoming chapter that was about to be posted, while enjoying his delicious oats and drinking it
down with a fresh cup of water.
He checked his socials and accepted a few commissions from other people, while Dm-ing back
to two people.

After that he closed it and went on a run on the beach, with a hoodie on, and a short pair of
pants without sneakers, because the sand would get into his shoes and destroy it from inside.
Exhausted from the run, he dropped himself down, now sitting with his eyes between the sea
and shore, listening to the calming waves of the sea, the singing of the gulls, and the hard-mix
of colors from the sunrise mixed in the bright-blue sky.
A few moments later, he heard a jolly voice coming from his left, where one of the beach
entrances was.

“Kenny!”

It was the voice of Stephan, who had a different aura, different from the one until now, he had a
more active voice and energy, it was like 50 extroverted people were in the same body.
He approached him with a slight jog and a large smile on his face
Unintentionally, after meeting, they both started another walk on the beach, talking out the
situation from the other day, about Kina and everything surrounding it.

“So this is why Kina is… special, but I need you to act, Kenny"

Kenny stopped from walking for a quick moment, confused his eyebrows and fixed his eyes in Stephan’s sight.

“Look, I don’t have the power to continue anymore… but you’re here now, and why not use that
in our favor!”

That moment right there, Kenny knew… Stephan wanted to use him in his own favor, but should
Kenny ask about it or just follow the flow of the conversation and where it will go?

“What do you mean by that?”

The scene changes to a few images or sequences and the dialogue continues to roll in the
background.

“First step. You will go to Kina’s house and knock on the door.

Kenny went to their house, knocked on their hardwood, dark-brown door, but one answered, so
he went to step two.

“Her father is an occupied man, so you will have to call this number”

Calling the number, Kenny placed the phone to his ear and waited for an answer.

The phone rang from the back of the house, with a jolly ringtone.
While listening to the ringing from the back, Kenny looked up at the cloud of smoke coming from
the back of their home.

“Are they making a grill?”

Asked Kenny himself, switching his sight back at the phone, to see her father picked up the
phone, and he did.

“Step three, introduce yourself and tell what we’ve talked about”

“Good morning mister… Kina’s father, I’m Kenny, I was with Stephan yesterday at your house,
and I wanted to ask you something sir, when could you get home?”

*Dang it, I forgot his entire name* -monologues Kenny, thinking how stupid he was in this
situation

“Just open the gate’s door, Kenny, I’m in the backyard making the grill”

“Oh for sure sure, coming right away”

Continued Kenny, ending the call, and hesitating if he should enter or not the gate.

But in the end, he decided to walk inside the door right near the gate, which had pale-red bricks
and expensive swirling dark-colored steel arrows, as well as black, thin bars that filled up the
missing gaps between the brick pillars which were situated two meters one from the other.
On the floor, there were gray concrete tiles, and freshly cut grass, which was very well kept,
because it was greener than peas.

The gray tiles followed until the entrance of the house, which was right in front of the gate, and
they also followed a path towards the left, which led him to their backyard.
As he followed the second path of tiles, on the light-blue colored wall of the home, there were
placed many old drawings of the family in glass frames, covering most of the wall’s lower part.
Kenny thought that the pictures would belong to Kina.

The entirety of the gate was covered with large rectangle bushes from the inside, and in which
there were attached small paper-people and more colorful paper decorations.
Taking the first and last turn on the right, he saw Kina’s father preparing the ingredients on a
large and fancy glass table.
