Chapter 7 - The World Ahead
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tetras who owned slaves usually had a tall fence with barbed wire surrounding their premises. The tall fence and wires were to keep the slaves inside, and only the most trusted long term prisoners were able to go to the outside world to buy groceries, and products for the family with the consent of a security guard.
Blake was aware of the barbed wire, the bars between himself and civilization. He could have escaped anytime, but to him for the longest time, it felt like staying in this prison was safe from the rest of the world. Safe from the monsters, the cruelness, the lies. So he chose to stay behind his cell.
Blake helped Ima down the window. "Ima..." The little girl pointed at herself. "Blakey.." The little girl points at Blakey excitedly. "ESCAPE!"
"Got the wrench?" Blake asked, holding out his hand. Ima nodded and placed the wrench in his hand.
"I have a plan, Ima. The security here is weak because they trust me. And no matter what happens, we're going to be fine." A sweat dropped from Blake's face. "I'll take the lead," Blake said. He held Ima's hand, and they ran to the fence. Ima followed Blake loyally. The wall was white, and circling around it, it had heavy metal barbed wire. Blake took out a wrench from his pocket. SSSRTTTTTT! He pulled the barbed wire upwards. It was like an arm wrestling competition, struggling to make the hole bigger. His arms felt weak from malnourishment, and attempting to create a hole on the bottom of the fence to crawl out to was draining him physically. The wire finally surrendered to the tool, and the space would now suffice.
Blake quickly dropped the wrench, and grabbed Ima into the hole, making sure she went first.
"Okay, Blakey!" She followed his orders, putting her small body into the cramped space. Everything was tranquil, until part of the barbed needles stabbed Ima's legs. "AGHHH!" She screamed in pain.
BEEEEEEEEEEPPPPP BEEEEEPPPPPPP
The alarms started blaring and intimidating guards started pouring out like water. "STOP RIGHT THERE 007, 010! " Blake pulled himself gradually through the fence, and pushed Ima out of the fence even when she was in bad pain. "Here's our chance! Let's get out of here!"Blake shouts, sliding through the fence, the guards approximately 5 inches away from him.
He pushed himself out, picked up Ima, and started running to the trees carrying her. Blake kept a stern expression. "We need to go." He ran like there was no tomorrow, into the depths of the trees, and didn't care if anybody stopped him. He felt the warm air and the sunshine hugged his face, giving him a warm embrace.
His feet met the grassy floor, and his body felt faint. The last time he ran like this was when he…
Blake stopped in his steps. Trying to grasp for air, he coughed and let Ima down.
He felt freedom, even though he knew it was temporary.
Blake pushed away the leaves of the rear, and saw the high beautiful city end view of Terrenova City. He unfolded the flyer in his pocket and Ima read it out loud in front of him.
"13 years old and older can join! Southern Terrenova City."
Blake thought for a second, was he older than thirteen? He didn't even remember when he was born. According to Abraham, he was eleven when he last lived. And how much time has passed since then? 1 year...2 years...3 years...He counted the amount of masquerades he went to. 4 years...
So he was fifteen. An epiphany arose in his mind. Perhaps this was his purpose. To serve his country and face the monsters that were slaughtered...
There were no more words.
Everything just made sense.
