When I got to school the next day, I hurried to class, feeling ready for the day. When I walked in, she waved me over and asked how I slept. My heart started racing, and I couldn’t help but smile, surprised she spoke to me. I was racing, trying to think of the perfect reply, with a thousand random thoughts swirling in my head. I finally settled on, “It was okay,” and then asked her how her night was. She blushed a little and told me it was good and that she felt energized. We both smiled, waiting for the teacher to arrive.
When class began, the teacher announced today’s lesson would be about life goals. She wanted us to write down who we wanted to be when we grew up and what places we wanted to explore That would be our assignment for the day. I tried hard to think about what I wanted for my future, but every time I tried, I came up blank. Glancing over at her, I noticed she had written “a wife” on her paper. My face brightened up, and I found myself wondering if, one day, she could be my wife.
As time passed, the bell rang, and the teacher reminded us to check out the clubs we signed up for. I looked over and asked if she was still up to check out the theater club with me. She smiled and said, “Of course.” As we walked down the hallway to the auditorium, I couldn’t keep my mind off her, stealing glances whenever I could, admiring her beauty.
When we arrived at the auditorium, the club president welcomed us. We thanked her and found our seats among the other students who had come to see what the club was all about. The lights dimmed as the president stepped onto the stage, and a spotlight shined on her. She announced, “Welcome to the first-ever theater club meeting.”
